There was never an official announcement of a tour from Prince or the entire tour promoter.

Remember how each year Glastonbury announces Prince as a guest per4mer 2 close the show or whatever from one of their organizers? Even the one off show in Hong Kong in 2003 had a press release b4 a month later doing Hawaii and Australia.

I would hold off on it 4 now. Dates r changing. Right now, nothing is relevant and I rather be honest with u then jerk u round. When I can say something and it is solid, I will say it.

Even in L.A., until I am in the venue and I see him on stage, I never believe it. Even with ticket in hand.

I'm with ya J7, especially after pulling up to the L.A. Forum(?) and finding the concert had been cancelled. That was SO disappointing, especially after I talked a non-fan into going, getting a couple of people to drive up from San Diego and my having to fly in, hotel, etc.. I never heard the end of it from everyone. bawl mad

eek When did that happen?

Oct 6, 1998. Only reason I know the date is because I still have the damn tickets. Rumors were that he and Mayte had gotten in a fight or that he had hurt himself a few days before. (it might have been after the slippery stage incident?) But, he did the next show which was a day or two later. The saddest part is one of my friends was a HUGE fan who hadn't seen P for years. I'll never forget his look of disappointment. Sadly, he passed on a couple of months later. I'm still sick it happened that way. cry

Funny thing that happened the next day: sis walks down to corner Starbucks while I check out of hotel. When I walk out, I look up and there is Prince's tour bus parked right in front of me! I'm thinking the bus is empty, so as I'm walking past I'm flipping birds, cussing 'em out, being totally pissed and sad. We're then sitting at a table outside for awhile and all of a sudden I see Mayte and a bodyguard walking out of the Wild Oats across the street with a shopping cart. Then I notice there's a black Towncar parallel parked RIGHT in front of us...duh...I was a little out of it since we had to go out drinking instead of seeing the show. So Mayte gets on the bus, Towncar leaves, bus backs out and takes off. OMG...everyone was on the bus as I was doing the finger3 thing. lol err

Actaully the October 6th, 1998 concert was cancelled twice, if people remember. He hurt his ankle in Atlanta jumping off the piano and the dates were delayed. L.A. was rescheduled 4 late October. It just really sucked on a Friday night where traffic was hell on the 405 2 finally get there and see:

NEW POWER SOUL concert CANCELLED. We are talking so close 2 showtime, you had 18,000 people scrambled in that area. People were already inside. Chaka was about 2 take the stage...and then.....P told her not 2 go out.

There was NO fight...well not with Mayte at least. The owners of the Forum were not only charging Prince 4 the venue that he rented in early October but never used, they were also charging him 4 the new rescheduled night. 4get that! Show was off. What hurt the most is knowing he played the very next night in the bay area, not dancing as much mind u, on his sore ankle, but he per4med nonetheless.

Prince kind of sworn off L.A. with the Hollywood Bowl people the year b4 putting curfew on him and he was wanting 2 pay the fine 4 curfew, but since the bowl is located in a residental area, they have 2 shut shop at the time they say and he was not happy about that. Graham Central Station's set was longer than Prince's. There was also an incident at the Key Club later that night.

Aside from a small gig in 98 at the Key Club after Leno, Prince stayed away from L.A. 4 about 4 years. We went 2 a Bay Area show in 2001, the very 1st one that had a soundcheck open 2 members..and also a Q n A. And miko4u asked Prince, "when is L.A. gonna get some love". He replied as soon as ur Police Department gets things in order. I want 2 play late and they are trying 2 shut me down at 11:00 P.M. He also mentioned something about selfish venue owners but then stated we'll try 2 get L.A. in.

2 days later, he added a show in 3 days at the Hollywood Palladium. It wasn't COX arena nor where the Warriors played, but it was still a great show.

P.S. 4 a brief time on the love4oneanother.com web site in November 1998, it was mentioned that if AVALON and the Forum can come 2 the origianl agreement, the NPS tour will do L.A.

It was taken off a few hours later.

Thanks J7. I don't remember that it had been rescheduled. I didn't think the fight theory was right, but when I saw Mayte get on the bus instead of riding in the car with Prince, it made me wonder.

Luckily, we were running a little late and found out when we pulled into the parking lot. So do you mean he cancelled because of the charging thing? Wouldn't he have known that before Chaka was about to take the stage?

I also still have my tickets from the cancelled San Diego show when the Super Bowl was there. One reason I'm not getting too excited with the half-time thing until he's on stage. wink

Damn! I was so sure the Greece-thing would mean a Europe tour! I've NEVER seen Prince live. I know he's probably never coming to Finland but why couldn't he come to Sweden or Estonia or Denmark or Russia or even Germany or... Hell I would've even traveled to Greece if it turned out to be his only gig in Europe.

Sorry to hear that. This is suppose to be the Best Show ever for him, i dont see why he wont do European tour. . . I think He should do the world. . take a year and a half.

I totally agree! I think it would be the best thing for Prince to do (although there MIGHT be some personal gain involved wink ).

Just seen this on HouseQuake.com .... It has probably already been posted here - so many pages!!

Hi ya'll.

Just got back from my local Universal office, and in a discussion with the guy I know down there about Prince and touring, he sent a mail to ICO (better know as the danish concert organizer who's been behind Princes latest european tours in over a decade) asking about news of a tour. The reply was rather depressing as they confirmed that there will be NO TOUR until 2007 and that the concert in Greece had been cancelled as of yesterday... Sorry guys

As far as saying it is depressing news - why not look on the positive - a 2007 tour....

AN OASIS IN THE CONCRETE SPRAWL

For a refreshing view of this sprawling city, a walk up the hill of Lycabettus can be invigorating in many ways. It is steep on the side, so much so, a funicular railway was built to assist the inveterate climbers. On the other, it is gently sloping, with some rocky outcrops. Licavitos as it is known, altitude 909ft, was once reputed to be the home of wolves (Lykos-wolf) and fortunately this is no longer true.

Although Lycabettus is basically a limestone rock, thanks to the Philodasic Society and the Municipality, the slopes are thickly wooded. Legend has it that Lycabettus was a rock which Athena was carrying to Athens to form a bulwark for her citadel.

The walk up can be attempted from three routes. Either (for the gentler ascent) from Sarantapichou ( the Periferiako or circular road) above Asklipiou St., or from Daskalogianni St. ( behind the Panathinaikos Football stadium) or for the lazy way up by Funicular from Aristippou Street. The steeper route is from Kolonaki, up Ploutarchou Street through the woods.

The development of Lycabettus was undertaken by the Municipality of Athens many years ago and the wooden log bridges, seats and shored-up stone walls, have added to the natural beauty.

From the summit you see westwards another smaller hill, the Strefi and the Museo (National Archeological Museum) and further away, the Areos Park. In the distance Mont Parnes (4631ft) stretches across westwards to Mt. Egaleo.

Southwest you see the Acropolis with Thissio and Philopappou Hill in the background, Faliron Bay and further still Piraeus and suburbs. Further west is Daphni Monastery and the suburbs of Egaleo and Peristeri.

Southeast overlooks the Zappeion in a sea of vivid green which is the National Gardens. The Panathinean white marble stadium (where the first modern Olympics were held in 1896) and further west the suburbs of Pagrati, Vyrona, and Kessariani, with University city in the distance before the imposing violet-hued Mt. Hymettus range.

Northeast are the green suburbs of Paleo Psyhico and Filothei, Agia Paraskevi and Holargos. In the foreground you will see Athens' first and only skyscraper, the Athens Tower, the Athens Hilton, Megaron Mousikis and the U.S. Embassy. Nearer still the Lycabettus Open Air Theatre where many concerts are held during the Athens Festival every summer. The backdrop is Mt. Penteli from where the marble for the Acropolis came and still visible are the chalk white cuttings where the quarries were.

Atop the hill a restaurant and pastry shop both with excellent panoramic views over the city are very popular with people who come for an ice cream or coffee or a good meal. Further downhill leading towards the south, is an ouzerie and snack bar which are usually more popular around sunset, the panoramic view being part of the attraction.

St George Day sees the celebration for the 19th century Chapel of St. George which perches on the hilltop like a cherry on the cake. At Easter time this is a very popular place for Athenians to celebrate the Resurrection.

By today, the first wild cyclamen will have sprouted and dispersed among the pine trees. By the 1st of May people will have climbed all over the hillside looking among the myriad wild flowers to choose their flowers for the "stefani" or wreath to place over their door for good luck. Lycabettus has always been a favourite getaway spot for busy Athenians and will probably attract nature lovers and idle strollers for many centuries to come. Its also a reminder of how much this city has sprawled.

If you are tired of crowded beaches filled with tourists or those cosmopolitan island bars, then maybe it's time to look into another way to spend your holidays.
