However, it did get a bit annoying hearing Prince play Sly covers all the time just so Larry could get his moment in the spotlight. I wouldn't want to see it returning to that format, that's been done. I have never seen The Time and I would love to even if they did the same old songs and routines! I am not going to this show but I am very interested in what happens and to what level Prince joins in. I never thought I'd see the day when Prince allowed The Time to be above him on the bill! Surly that shows how he has mellowed... Who knows what the next tour format will be, but if he does have one or 2 opening acts that usually means he will have less time performing his own material - even more so than usual if Tamar is guesting alongside him. The great thing about the ONA tour was no support acts so more Prince, plus without another guitarist he had to do all the work himself, which was amazing to watch. From what I have seen of the Musicology tour, he was freed from guitar duties by the Rev. Scott and could spend a lot of the time working the crowd instead rather than pure performance, which was not as good as the ONA tour. My fear for the next tour is that he will spend less and less time purely performing his own material - perhaps it is simply that the huge amount of Musicology concerts took it out of him and now he's finding ways of performing without actually having to do as much himself? Only a theory. I don't think that 2 support acts means a shorter P's concert.I've seen him in Paris in 1998 at the NPS show, and Larry Graham played about 1 hour, then Chaka Khan 30 minutes, and Prince 3 hours 15 minutes!Although it was the longest show of the tour (maybe the longest ever?),the general time of P's shows with 2 support acts on this tour was beetween 2 and 2 hours 1/2, so don't worry.

The Time opened up for Prince in Chicago on the Musicology tour in 2004 when he had to reschedule a show and made us wait two months before he came back. The Time was phenemonal and Prince did not cut his performance short. I actually went to two shows on the Musicology tour in Chicago. I was in awe when it was just Prince at the first show but when he had the Time open for him at the second show the concert was better. Even if Morris Day and the Time performed the same songs I would love to see them perform it again. They did the same routine they did on Rave unto the year 2000 but it was still great.

Speaking of The Time, I just saw their video for "Jungle Love" on VH-1's "We Are the 80's" segment. That video always brings a smile to my face. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

The Time are just a nostalgia act now really. I don't think the tired 80's dance routines, preening in the mirror and sqwarking along to 'The Bird' really translates well contemporarily. I agree, they play the same set for 10 years, and no new stuff. The show is all Vegas and really for the fairweather fans who haven't seen them since "Purple Rain." ______________________________________________

I don't know...I saw GCS with Prince and Chaka, and I thought Larry sounded GREAT! Alot of orgers hate on Larry for his religious conviction. As one of only two jews in my neighborhood growing up in the Chicago area, I find that offensive. Anyway, I'm on spring break next week, and I'm thinking about going. Occupy Alphabet Street!

.....do people not know Prince has determined the TIME set list from day 1? ~ those R his songs afterall....think it took about 15 years 4 them 2 convince him 2 let them play cuts from the "GB" project there's a special kinda magic when P & the fellas play the same show....TIME may have been doing the same set list 20+ years but they generally sell-out a venue & get much deserved LOVE from folks who come 2 their shows!!! if none of U have had this experience recently, recommend it~after all these years it still retains a lip-smacking good flavor as 4 advance notice....Prince probably didn't decided 2 play the set until moments B4 it was posted ....as 4 Larry, this one will try 2 do as the elders instructed, "if U ain't got nothing good 2 say...." my impression has not changed since saw him backstage @ kemper 1998 B

I haven't seen the Time since back in the day, so to me it would be a gas....its all about who's performing to me....not so much about what new tricks they pull out....
...I'm thinkin (for me) that it'll be a lot like when I caught AWB at House of Blues in New Orleans....off the hook show....hit all the classics like Schoolboy Crush...Pick Up the Pieces...Cut the Cake, etc.....then the next 3 times they came back, it was generally the same show, same stage set-up, same playlist with one or two new joints thrown in.....same off the hook good time... ....just can't get what the facination with Vegas is.... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

Morris Day and The Time (or at least whats left of them) are without question one of the funkiest performing groups that ever graced the stage. I prefer the old TIME with Jessie, Terry and Jimmy Jam myself. But here's the problem, that damn set list needs more flavor. Why not play Skillet, Chocalate, Sexy Socialite, Jerk Out etc.. what happen to the Pandemonium cuts, thats were the rock/funk would set a concert ablaze.

looks like this show was just an expensive newpowersoul gig. larry playing for an hour and a half wearing the same tired suit and making the same tired comments.
the time would be cool to see again though not for 121.03 if you went, please, i'm not pissing on your parade. i hope you had a blast and i hope this weekend brings about unheard gems and brilliant surprises.

Where are the reports from the concert?
Anyone? Anyone? The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Just found some on HQ
http://www.housequake.com...ost1064443 posted by More: OK, this was my first time to The Time's concert and I had a great time! I enjoyed meeting my fellow Quakers in person and the atmosphere outside the venue was as funky as could be. though we had a good place in the general line, they opened up the NPGMC line on such a short notice that we had to dash over there. when GCS went up stage, the general impression was that it's gonna be a warm-set, you know: 3-5 songs max. we were wrong. and a bit frustrated by the end of it. don't get me wrong, GCS sounded great and they were tight, but come on! that was, according to my watch, a 90 minutes long set! it was too long and unnecessary, since the crowd got kinda tired and impatient. Prince's appearance during GCS's set was crucial. he gave the crowd an energy boost. besides the fact that Prince looked simply amazing (I got to see him for the very first time last night, remember?), a few of us felt that he was tired or a bit upset about something (that changed when he returned to the stage with The Time, IMO). you know, I found myself feeling bad for Larry - if I were in his shoes last night, they wouldn't have been very uncomfortable. another awkward moment was when Larry went "dirty mind" on us! he grabbed his guitar in a very inappropriate manner for a JW!!! that was NOT cute and even less sexy. I mean, his bass playing skills are amazing, but ... dude, don't ever go there again, I beg ya! oh, and his wife came onstage at one point and looked a bit freaky, I must say. I really wanted my money back by that time... but then The Time came on stage, and though most of us were pretty much exhausted, these guys have such a positive vibe that you just forget about everything and wanna have fun. they really did gave us their all and other than having the extremely long "let's get a lot of ladies on stage to embarrass themselves by shaking their asses" part - it was a great show. when Prince came on stage, the atmosphere was... well, I can't think of another word other then friendly: you could have felt how comfortable they were with each other last night. the one thing that caught my attention regarding Prince was that he barly made eye contat with the audiance. that's too bad 'cause he had gotten to see a lot of love last night. after P finished abusing his guitar, he simply threw it into the audiabce that was reluctant to give it back. all and all, I don't Prince was on stage for more then a total of 20 minutes tops. oh, and thank god for Jerom, who entertained us to the extreme! he even made a funny comment about how this is the best show we're gonna get for 120$. the show ended at 02:00am and I think it'd be safe for me to say that I would have loved to see some more of The Time and Prince and less GCS (with all due respect). a special thanks goes to Peter who got me an autograph by the twinz, who were apparently hanging out at the lobby. OK, that's all I've got for now. thanks again, fellow quakers - u kick ass! and posted at HQ by Serpan99 who found it posted by jseven @ npgmc: http://www.npgmusicclub.c...p?t=141178 O.K. Music Club, I am here at 3:47 A.M. writing this review 4 u. The club opened it's doors around 9 or so and then a Music Club line was made. They were selling 3121 Tambourines, Fury Sleeveless shirts and girl tank tops along with the 3121 shirtsirts and a Beautiful, Loved, and Blessed, shirt. Costs of shirts were $35.00 and the 3121 Tambourines were $50.00 n cash only for those going to the actual 3121 shows. Larry Graham and GCS took the stage shortly after 10:30. "GCS, the funkiest band from East to West" Larry chanted from the stage after walking through the crowd with the entire band to get to the stage. He was playing the bass with the mic attached to it. I was like, well if Madonna can put herself on a cross and have a mic attached to it, I am not going to give him any grief for the bass mic. I must say, GCS was super tight and very funky. The drummer, Les Cleaveland is a huge highlight. They went through countless jams and he even threw in "One In A Million You" which got a very good reaction from the crowd. Prince joined them onstage for two numbers wearing a cream colored outfit with a doo-rag. He picked up the Hohner and the guitar faces followed. He was in a good mood singing along and doing extended solos. Just really playful. He was wearing the pendant from the Black Sweat video, and I must add, that thing in living color, blings like nothing else. Nelly got nothing on him. After the two numbers, Prince took off his guitar and threw the wild sign. Been a long time since we have seen that. Larry's set lasted about an hour and 15 minutes. Best I have seen him play. I did enjoy it. Larry must have something planned cuz that band was tight. Between the GCS set and The Time, DJ Rashida is spinning on the 1 n 2's. Around 12:15 the Time takes the stage and it was nice to hear a slightly longer version of "Jerk Out" and "Blondie" along with all the other jams. For "Cool", Morris says "We gonna drag this one out a bit n see if we can get another guitar player up here. We have an extra guitar so if someone wants to make their way up, they can." Prince is seen walking towards the stage, kind of taking his time at first which made Morris make the funniest comment of the night; "You can stop walking up here like you are walking away from Ryan Seacrest!" Prince plays mostly at first with his back to the crowd, looking over his shoulder but slowly turns facing the crowd after a while. He jams with Mr. Freeze a little bit before Jellybean plays him a beat he can solo to by the front of the stage. Morris says something to make Prince bust up for a minute and then continues playing. After a few minutes more, he hands the guitar to audience members and walks off. They brought up some really beautiful women tonight. The Time show ended about 1:55 A.M. It was a funky funky night. GCS got chops and you know the Time is gonna bring the funk. It is always nice to see Prince play, weather it is with his childhood hero or his friends from the old school. One last thing of note; while picking up my ticket to the show, the couple next to me was picking up their Penn & Teller Tix. They asked the cashier who was playing tonight. She said Prince and the lady responded "the real Prince?" If it wasn't for the Ryan Seacrest comment from Morris, that woulda taken the slice of the cheesecake. As of right now, I am not slated to attend the Saturday show so I will look forward to others reviews. Much Love to all and hoping this makes u guys feel like u r here. j7 [Edited 5/28/06 1:10am] The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass.
