"Three little girls were there onstage dancing around...I said something to my friend like Wow! It's funny those girls are probably too young to appreciate how great that opportunity is!"

I am the Daddy of the girl up there wearing the Most Beautiful Girl In The World t-shirt, and I can tell you in all honesty she knows what an amazing opportunity she was part of, and she truly appreciates it. lol Not only was it her first Prince concert, it was her 7th b-day. She's been a Prince fan from when she was just a fetus, being force fed his music by her Daddy since conception, lol. The show was amazing! Tamar has a great voice, great stage presence, and can flat out entertain. P's work on guitar and Partyman were awesome, as was being there for him doing a Michael Jackson cover!! Never thought I'd see that in P's lifetime, lol. If ANYONE got pics (I know some of you snuck in your camera phones) and got pics of the girls dancing on stage, may I please ask for your kindness in sharing so my little Angel can have pics as a keepsake of her unbelievable 7th birthday?!

The older girl is Kirk Johnson's daughter and she has been dancing on stage with P forever and ever (check your rave DVD).

Is anyone else's ears still ringing from the Tamar concert on Saturday in MPLS? I am serious...no joking...I think Prince's guitar was WAY to jacked up. The sound was on overdrive...my ears still feel like a submarine.

On the right side floor section it did seem a little loud at first. Even so it struck me as really odd that the guy in front of me had something white stuffed in his ears. eek
While waiting for the doors to open at Paisley Park i overheard him say that this was his first Prince concert and it was so loud he had to plug his ears with tissues. Then he said that he sure would be glad when he's inside the Love4OneAnother room because he was hoping to find a "couch" to go to sleep on. He figured his girlfriend could wake him after the show. lol

A little advice this concert year, if ya want to get the total Prince experience, ROLL ALONE or at least go with someone that is more willing than yourself to do what it takes to be in it all.

I'm jus' sayin', I don't let anyone get in the way of me gettin' it all.

A friend of mine mentioned this yesterday afternoon when I checked in with him.

My ears were fine, but I was thinking that with the way the sound is arranged at the theater, it's louder in the first rows of the regular main floor than in the pit. Weird, but true. Folks in the pit who I saw grab ear plugs, took them out quickly into the show...

I hope the ringing has stopped!

They seemed to turn Princes guitar up louder and louder as the show progressed. At the end of Redheaded Stepchild or whatever that song was called when he put the guitar down making that awful noise it literally hurt and I could see people all over holding there ears.

I see! The lady next to me seemed to have come alone. When the music hit you know she DEFINATLY didn't FEEL alone. biggrin

I went to one of the Musicology shows alone in 2004. One of the best nights I've ever had. I was completely possessed by the music and Prince's stage presence. I was totally in a zone, dancing my ass off nonstop. No distractions, nobody talking to me, it was amazing.

The next night I went again, with a good friend of mine who loves Prince (but isn't a geek like us) and it wasn't the same. The night I went by myself was so much more memorable.

Don't be scared to go by yourself! Like you said about the lady next to you, once the music hits, everybody in the place is caught up in the same energy; you're really not alone.

I agree. Either that or tell your friend right from the start...that this is YOUR thing, you're very excited and you'd appreciated it if she'd just suck it up and stay as long as you'd like for your sake! I mean what kinda friend wouldn't do that for another friend?
I went to the first celly, I didn't have anyone to come with me so I dragged my cousin (who is not a fan at all really) with me and I told him right out, that I'm staying every night untill they kick me out!. He stayed at the hotel a couple nights cause he just didn't want to go...I went to paisely alone! It was great! smile

It seems like no one is telling it like it really was. Prince played the side role the entire night-- guitarist, add-in singer 90% of the time. Tamar can indeed blow. She did a handful of orginal songs and just as many covers including a couple from M.J. and J. Jackson which was kind of eerie, being it was Prince, but showed true music appreciation. Like others have said, her stage presence (dancing and outfits) with the twin dancers made me think of no other than Tina Turner. At the pace she was going through songs, I felt P would have to likely fill in the gaps for her between sets or so being that he was labeled "Special Guest".

Coming into it, I knew the night was not going to be about P, but I definately expected more from him. He only rocked his guitar at the end of sounds when she left the stage-- awesome. To me, the party didn't officially hit full blast until P flew into "Party Man", which he cut short b/c it was "too funky". Little did I know that was the beginning of the end. eek

The show was only 90 minutes long. When the lights came on it was mass disbelief from the crowd. No encore, no big finale, nothing (except for him inviting people on stage to dance which is nothing new)!. Many weren't convinced it was over until they started tearing down the stage.....some may still even be there. I assumed (hoped) he would do 3-5 songs if for nothing else to promote is new album.... at least some duets or something. That would have made it a somewhat respectable full two hour show. They didn't even do "Beutiful, Loved, Blessed" that they did on SNL! Prince's stage presence was just like ticket sales-- Black Mail. You had to like her, just like you had to go....b/c he was there. It seemed the crowd was patient and enjoying b/c they knew their P-fix was coming. Instead, he only gave enough to ease the pain.

I recall P only leaving her on the stage alone once.....which coincided with the only time some of the people started to sit down (not the pit people). Of course, when he came back.....they stood up again (like some D-Bo mind control action by Smokie).

All-in-all, take away his name from the bulletin and him from the stage and all you would have is a $15-20 show with decent attendance (b/c it's in Minneapolis and P might show up). It wouldn't have mattered if Tamar was Beyonce, the crowd would still have wanted more from P.

Peace!

coolbreeze, I think we are all telling it like it really was. From our own perspective.

I got more than I expected from the show as I had not expected to like Tamar as much as I did.

As it was, Prince's role was exactly what I figured it would be. In fact, his inclusion of Partyman was more than I had hoped for. I honestly didn't expect to hear a single "Prince" song all night.

I do agree that they should have done Beautiful Loved and Blessed, but other than that I have no complaints with the show. I was hugely entertained and had a great time.

And for me, that's telling it like it really was.

Because of the other reports I felt like we actually got more Prince then other cities (I could be wrong but I don't think he has played any of his songs elsewhere) and I too had a better then expected time so I also told it like it was. I will say I was disappointed when Prince's equipment wasn't set up at Paisley after I had just paid $25 but that is the risk you take I guess.

I just noticed you may have come up from Baton Rouge which would obviously make you hope/expect for more but if you did travel it was at your own risk.

Coolbreaze did you travel from Baton Rouge for teh show? Because if you did I can see that adding to your disappointment but at the same time it was done at your own risk.

The only thing I was disappointed by on Saturday was walking into Paisley Park after paying $25 and not seeing Prince's equipment set up. DMC rocked but they still aren't Prince.

I guess it went as I expected also. It was a little weird that Prince didn't mention 3121 at all, you would think that he would want to mention that. If Tamar turns out to be a star/superstar we can say "We saw her when..." Otherwise in 5-10 years we'll be wondering where she fell off the earth. Her singing was ok but I don't think it was great. It kinda reminded me of Prince's version of American Idol to be honest.

No, the show just so happened to coincide with a planned visit. I wasn't overly disappointed, but if it were a buffet I would have hit the bar at least a couple more times. I knew it was a risk. Being I live in the boot, I don't see those opportunities often.

I decided to go double or nothing and hit the afterparty too ($50, two people). That was my firt time experiencing the Park which was a dream come true in itself. That band was awesome, but not Prince as you stated. Take away P from the Tamar show and I would have easily preferred the DMC show. It was pretty cool being amongst the P zombies walking around and sleeping on his floor. It would have been well-attended if P would have announced it at the end of the show and I feel that would have nudged him to perform. That lead me to believe he never had any intentions of performing.

So cold, that brother.

Just to add my twocents to this in response to coolbreeze as well. I was at the NYC show--the radio stations had just received Black Sweat & BLB promos & the Black Sweat video had dropped two days prior but they did not play BLB live at the show, the DJ spun it once right before the concert started and then immediately after the show ended. And Prince did do Partyman, too, and the "It ain't over/ooh we ooh" chant.

In my opinion the amount of Prince participation (or lack thereof) has been made clear on here, HQ, and NPGMC. The reports I read from LA & SF prepped me for New York and I went knowing Prince would be there, but nothing more. That is what I got--with some amazing guitar playing, but it was no Prince concert, and I didn't expect it to be.
