ticketmaster is only listing Philly right now I *loathe* ticketmaster...the tix will end up over $60 each with their wonderful "convenience" charge. Who the )!@#%!)# is it convenient for?? for some reason, the MPLS show is only found if you do a search for Tamar. that should help the remaining tix to be sold...

Yeah I think Prince better play A LOT because the general public is not going to be happy if they pay $60 something bucks and Prince stands in the back and strums a guitar. He could hurt future concert sales in Minneapolis. Because obviously if Prince wasn't involved Tamar would maybe be playing at The Quest with a $7 cover.

Me and Amy were on vacation when the orginal email came so we missed the presale and I don't want to justify the new price. There is a possibility one of my friends has an extra presale ticket and if so I might go with that and there is one person I asked to go and if he says yes in the next 2 1/2 hours I will bite the bullet and pay the higher price. But if there is one thing I have learned in the last few years is that it doesn't matter if I miss these shows. In my younger days there was no cost too high and nothing I wouldn't skip to see Prince but during the Musicology tour we missed 2 of the shows and all 3 of the afterparties and somehow life went on. Actually it started during the Hit and Run shows when I wouldn't pay the $90 bucks to see the second show at the Xcel and somehow I survied and didn't feel like I missed anything at all. I am very content with everything I have already seen so while its always cool to see him its not a dire need anymore.

If Prince stays mostly in the background and people want to get pissed, that's on them. It's clearly stated that this is a Tamar show. If you've been a Prince fan for longer than five minutes, then you're well aware that "Special Guest Prince!" could mean anything from dude taking over the show, to him guesting on guitar for a song or two. Speaking strictly for myself, I'm expecting Tamar to put on a good show and I'm pants-pissingly excited just to see Prince in a small venue at all, as I've only seen him at a huge arena. I don't think he'll hurt future ticket sales by playing a minor role. The Normal Whores Club

He is playing a relatively big venue here (compared to other cities so far where it was just the hardcore who could get in) and more then just the orgers and quakers will be there. Just my take.

I haven't seen the local news reports, but at least the blurb in the the Star and Tribune (which I did see) emphasized that he was supporting Tamar and that it was her show. With that in mind, I guess it's a good thing that TM has it listed under Tamar for MPLS. As you can't even find the show if you search for Prince. So, I do think he's done what he can to portray this show as what it is. Now if local media are skipping the facts, then that's out of his control. That all being said, I also was a bit worried about the general public's reaction to this show. I'm purely basing this on the Xcel shows for Celebration 2 when he went on sooooo late and then did nothing but medley's and Najee solos. I can't count the number of people who I convinced to see that show who said they would never spend money to see him again... Still, I think the Orpheum is small enough that those who are there for the "wrong" reason will be small in number. I think most of the house will be there just out of curiosity or the fammish undying need to see Princey on stage again in any capacity....the fam in me will be there in full effect, ps

Just for debate's sake, I don't think the paper could have made this much more clear:
http://www.startribune.co...60888.html Sneakology: Prince announces gig Saturday at Orpheum He's still a sneaky one, that Prince. Chris Riemenschneider, Star Tribune Last update: February 21, 2006 – 6:51 PM He's still a sneaky one, that Prince. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer announced to fan club members late Monday that he's performing Saturday at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis. Yes, this Saturday. One more cunning thing about the show: It's officially billed as "Támar with special guest Prince." Támar is the little-known, gorgeous R&B singer who performed with him on "Saturday Night Live" three weekends ago. Fan-club tickets sold out within minutes Tuesday afternoon when they went on sale at www.npgmusicclub.com -- priced at $31.21 (the title of his upcoming CD is "3121") but more seats will be available through Ticketmaster starting at noon Wednesday (at $50 apiece). A protege of Prince like Vanity, Apollonia and Sheila E. before her, Támar has a Prince-produced debut CD coming out March 21, the same day as his new one. Adding to the hype for the albums, two more concerts have been scheduled, for Chicago on Monday and Philadelphia on Wednesday. Prince hasn't performed at the Orpheum since the "Dirty Mind Tour" in 1980. His last shows in his native Twin Cities were a trio of dates at the Xcel Energy Center in June 2004, part of his triumphant Musicology Tour. The highest-drawing concert tour that year, it also was billed as the last chance to see the singer perform many of his hits on stage. There is no official word on who is or isn't in his ever-changing live band, but his group at the Brit Awards in London last week included Sheila E. and former Revolution members Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman. Twin Cities musicians Mike Scott and Morris Hayes also have performed with him recently. Whatever the lineup, a Prince associate warned, "There's a reason Támar's name comes first" in the concert announcements.

just for fun, I tried to pull MPLS tix from TM. My 'best seats' were Main Floor row Z or balcony row 8! They must have had a boat load of member tix!

Yes, out of vuriosity, the best I could pull were row M of the balcony (and I'm not paying $60 to see Tamar from there) so I threw them back and a second search said there were none available so it *appears* I won't be going. Oh well.

Same here. Tickets are sold out. edit: I got tickets. The tickets are SHITTY, as in they are balcony seats and are about as far back as is physically possible, but: I got tickets. [Edited 2/22/06 10:30am]

exactly--people will figure all of that out just by looking at the orpheum's marquee, too. this isn't a caveat emptor affair, so if people get mad over the fact that ol' boy's in the background on this one, hey...look again. it's there in black & white. definitely. this is weird for me because the smallest venue i've seen prince at is paisley park, while the friday night parties were still going on...this'll be like a medium-sized venue for me.
