My Portland Experience!!!

Where do I begin, I'm still sleep deprived and totally in awe of last night show in Portland. First I wasn't able to join the club and buy a ticket so I opted to just get a good floor seat and be happy. I took a friend who has never seen Prince and our seats were in the 26th in Section D. (by the way I brought my "First Celebration" laminate as a keepsake to wear, more about that later).

I had the aisle seat. The show was incredible, I love the "TRC" album and to hear the songs played live were worth it. His new band is so tight, props go out to John Blackwell. About halfway thru the show I saw this beautiful girl walking down the aisle with a videocamera, know one else recongnized her so I grabbed her arm and said "Hi Manni", sure enough it was Prince's wife. She was very sweet and and asked me if I was enjoying the show, I told her yes and how the last time I saw Prince was on my 30th b-day which was the same night of the 1st Celebration. She walked towards the soundboard and kept dancing in the aisle and singing out loud. Well later she came back to me and asked if I was going to the afterparty, which at this time I still wasn't sure where it was going to be held. (not to mention I was short on cash and I heard that these aftershows have been costing $40 - 50 for non-NPG members).

After a few minutes she came back over and told me where it was going to be (Roseland Theater) and that I should go. I said I would try, since my friend who came with me had to drive to Washington first thing in the morning.

Once the concert ended, I went tothe soundboard and looked for her, the engineer was really cool and he said "Manni wanted me to remind you where thje party will be". So I persuaded my friend to drive over there and see if we could get in.

While standing in line I had this brilliant idea, after we got frisked and were about to be asked to pay $40 bucks I whipped out my "Celebration" laminate which said "VIP" on it. I showed it too one of the guards and he immediatley cleared a way for my friend and lead us up the rear staircase which lead to the stage. I couldn't believe it, the pass actually worked. I then proceeded to use it fro access into the roped off area at the stage. There I was standing front and center about 4 feet stage right from Prince's microphone. Around 12:30am he and the band strolled out and tore the place up. This man can play all night fi we let him. Everytime he would do a guitar solo or saunter to our side he would happen to be standing right in front of me, with my arms streched out it was inches form his guitar. (To those of you who were there I was standing next to the guy in the Red hat who got called onstage).

At one point people started to climb onstage, I jumped up and before I could get my groove on I was asked by the bouncer to get down sad it seems they only wanted girls on stage and no guys, anytime a guy tried they were booted off as well.

Finaly around 3am when Prince said goodnight I was on such a high, I mean I just saw my 2nd concert and it was funky than the first. I noticed one of Prince's guitar picks on the stage and I snagged it right at the same time John Blackwell came over and handed out some drumsticks. I shook his hand, said bye to Candy Dulfer. I went home as one of the happiest people on the planet.

I'm so thankful to Prince and the love he showed Portland. I'm also grateful that Larry Graham was not part of the show. All in all it was great night. Just wanted to share with you and the prince.org members. Peace and God Bless.

I'm feelin that as well still wore out~...Portland really has some good Prince supporters out here. It would B nice 4 "all" who feel his music & love the live shows 2 put on Partys dances etc...Like in Detroit, NY, Chi-town Bay Area, etc...Hell when I first came up this way from the Bay...I thought I was the only one diggin his music..lol, or one of a few...at the time Prince always skip over Portland until "97". But with his last few shows in the Northwest I'm seeing all these cool and beautiful people here. Since i'm in2 promotions and what have U, I would love 2 start a P-town funky gathering of sorts. But the Bay is callin me back home. But I really hope somebody on Prince .Org from the Portland or in Oregon could get a list 2gether of Prince peeps and they can get there funk loving friends who might B interested and thus Portlands first real deal Prince music gathering can start. Not talkin about doing the little underground stuff that peeps tried doing in the past (I been here years & never heard of any) Portland deserves something real that can truly B funky events that Purple Peeps can enjoy. 2 bask in the beauty and sound that is Prince's music & vision would B a sweet experience. This is how the truly funky people here can have a filler until the day Prince returns again 2 Rip up Ripcity~ Rise Up he said Portland, are y'all ready 2 do the work? Cause when the works done it will B nothin but a party~

What did Lil' Lurry do to you? That's some cold shit... neutral I don't mind Larry playing, I just hate for it to turn into a Sly & the Family Stone fest - put him on the bass, not on the mic!

Anyway, thanks for the report...
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

All I'm saying it was nice to Rhonda on Bass and not have Larry siging in his played out voice. Though I must admit he can be funky on the Bass at times.

It was great to meet many of the Org members from Oregon, Washington and California who came to the show (Connie, Michelle, Dorothy, Gemineye, Jennifer and others) Props to you!
The aftershow was another concert in itself…. Even MUCH funkier than the show!
Calhoun Square…. Oh… my…

Takumi (Prince's personal tech)told me that Portland was the last city on the tour and they were all going seprate ways for now and taking a one month break from touring.

I’m sure prince was getting his musical rock off last night at the Portland Aftershow before he takes his one month break.
I feel so fortunate to have witnessed, but also fell Portland was deserving of this and was VERY into it.

24 hours later, I still haven’t fully recovered from the funk…

We've got a group... we lack decent promotion and people willing to join up and do anything. You're more than welcome to promote us, We handed out dang near 200 flyers and cards between the two shows. Did our best. Now it's up to those people to join and make it happen.

You expect to get pats on the back and congrats for your dishonesty?

Neither you nor your friend are members of the NPGMC. Neither one of you was entitled to free admission and neither one of you was entitled to take up spots that were reserved for club members.

You're a thief and a freeloader.

Nice job NikkiDarling. Perhaps slvrhrt7 was too far back to hear the question.

Is it better to give or receive?

Reminds me of the girl at the Roseland who climbed on stage to get a pick as the crew was taking down the gear. Shoulda seen the glare she got from Takumi. He then started to hand Prince's foot pedal board to her, and as she started to take it, he took it away from her. Nice! He then commented that there was a drum kit behind him that she may want.

Right on Takumi, right on!

To Swinger and Markemery & Nikkidarling

For the record I've been listening to Prince for 22 years and have given much money in regards to buying or paying for things legitamely. Including paying for the MUsic Club the first year only to never have the downloads work on my computer. I would have joined this year but unfortunetly I lost my job a few months ago. So the $130 bucks I paid for my ticket was enough for me.

Let me ask you a question.
How many bootlegs do you guys own? Why not give Prince that money back. Yea that's what I thought. I give plenty to charitys when I can, church, and even goodwill. Don't be so fucking petty, it ain't worth it

Calling you out for thievery is not petty. Did you really think that club members who have paid the fee for this club are going to applaud you for ripping off benefits?

You did not pay one fucking dime to the NPGMC. You and your friend had NO RIGHT to take spots right in front of Prince's microphone. Those spots were reserved for members of the music club.

Having your freeloading ass bum rushing those spots prevented paying members from getting spots which they are entitled to have.

Donating to charity does NOT give you a free ride to take goods and services for which you have not paid.

You not only directly stole $80 from Prince, but you also stole premium spots at the show which should have rightfully gone to NPGMC members.

Right on Takumi, right on!

At the sound check, Takumi, (Prince’s multitasking personal technician/assistant, the quiet Japanese guy who hands Prince his different guitars)had a talk with the people in the front row about being respectful, not touching Princes guitars, stealing his picks, or anything else of Prince’s. Takumi said we would be rewarded at the end of the show if we were respectful. I did my best during the show and the after show to try to keep people from messing with Prince’s stuff.
The Blue sparkle woman brought a little girl up to the front row and had her strum Prince’s guitars sad , she tried to steal Prince’s picks, dancing and bumping into Prince’s guitars sad Takumi was very upset. I did the best I could to keep her and a few other people in line. At the end of the show Takumi came up to me and thanked me for my help and gave me a handful of picks (that were used by Prince in the show) and asked me to be in charge of distributing them. I gave them out to the people that had been the most respectful and true. Good things come to good people.
Later, Takumi came up to me again and said “as a token of our appreciation, we want to give you this” It was a shaker (percussion) I was like ……. smile!

Eleventeen, that's really heartwarming that you received a reward after doing the work smile

So many times, the people who do the right thing, pay their dues, wait their turn, and behave themselves come out with nothing, while the wild and crazy ones get everything handed to them on a silver platter. The world is so full of people who are so rude, pushy and aggressive that they just step over other people, taking what they want regardless of anything or anybody else.

The blue sparkle woman who wasn't a member of the club, pushed her way to the front, brought a child up to strum Prince's guitars, danced and bumped into Prince's guitars, and generally behaved badly should be ashamed of herself. But you know, people like that are never shamed over their wrongdoing. As long as they have a good time and get theirs, they don't give a damn.

That was very good of you to help Takumi, and it was wonderful that your helpfulness was noticed and you went away with a little gift for your efforts. smile

That is supercool. It sounds like he has his hands full keeping Prince's goods safe and secure, and I so often hear about him having to berate people I'm happy to hear this. He definitely respects those who give respect. My dancing partner asked him for a pick when we got off stage at the Schnitz, and he brought us each one along with bottles of water, which we really needed. Thanks Takumi!

As for the post that started this thread, it brings me no joy to find out that the sore back I had from somebody spending all night trying to jam into the inch and a half between me and another legitimate guest was somebody who didn't even pay for the show. I am glad for him that he had a good time and came home with something to remember it by though.

High,

You told it exactly right Eleventeen and Zinj.

Someone in the second row lost her seat to the bozo in sequins.

I had two guys climbing my back at Roseland, drunk or high or both.Oh my bruises! When I turned around to tell them they were hurting me, I guess they realised I meant it, I have sons their age! The look on their faces was priceless.LOL
They backed off.

It was just the best show and aftershow ever, no matter.I have wonderful memories of Portland!

peace and take care of each other,

2 words: FUCK and YOU.

22 Years? Then you've bought some stuff along the way and you've already gotten what you paid your dues for. What makes you think you didn't take the spot of another longtime fan, who has spent countless dollars on P, including the NPGMC fee?

NPGMC Year 1? The downloads not working on your computer are your own fault. You had your chance, and nothing you've paid for in the past entitles you to anything in the future. (Just about) everyone else in the roped-off area paid $230, not $130 -- so I'm sure that was more than enough for everybody, not just selfish YOU.

It's miserly bastards like you that make it more expensive and more of a hassle for honest people -- things like having to make the NPGMC tickets general admission, not to mention a general pain in the ass.

As for boots -- this isn't buying an unofficial CD from a middle-man ten steps down the line. P could release a CD of any boot out there, track-for-track in the same sequence, and the majority of 'the people' would buy them from P. What you're doing is not only denying Prince direct payment for his services to you, but is also stealing from the rest of the NPGMC there that night.

You suck.

In response to Zinj, I apologize for bumping your back, I would never do that to anyone intentionally, as you know it got very crowded in there and at times we were all jammed up.

To the others that think I stole a spot let me clarify that people had an opportunity to stand wherever they wanted, I saw a spot and i stood there. By the time the show started I also saw other non-members cross the taped off area when the bouncers weren't looking.

Plus let me add that my friend never entered the members section. To those of you who seem displeased get over it, i'm sure if you had the chance you would have done the same thing. What it boils down to is that we all had a great time, so remeber it for that!
