Aftershow In Portland......Unbelievable It's 4 AM and Im just posting a tidbit here but the aftershow was at the Roseland and lasted about 2 hours. If anyone thought he lost his funk you should have been there. This show was nothing but funk!!!! Prince was feeding off us as much as we were feeding off him. Songs like Calhoun Square, Paisley Park, Joy In Repetition,Soul Sacrafice, and more I just cant remember now. Hopefully somebody posts a detailed report. Im going to bed! All The money spent was well worth it just to see the aftershow. Members got in free. and B Wild

Oooh, I bet u looked CREAMY in every possible way, baby! I'm so glad u got 2 PHAT shows! I suppose the Bay could be bitter about not getting an aftershow, but after the Fillmore aftershow last year, I don't think we have anything to be upset about, especially since NPG made a formal 'apology' on their site to us. Again, I'm so happy for u and all of Portland!!! I can't wait to hear your first-hand report, luv! "Holding someone is truly believing there's Joy in Repetition"

does anybody remember the track list to the aftershow? it was my first, and so awe inspiring and physically demanding I can only remember a handful of the jams.
Among them: 1st set - it opened with a Talkin' Loud jam with "It Ain't Over" chant, with guitar jams by Prince on bits of Alphabet St. and Days of Wild or Thank You (Falletineme Be Mice Elf Again) at the beginning next, Dolphin next I think was a blues cover I didn't recognize included in the first set was Calhoun Square a long funny dialog about a kid who came up to him and asked him to sign his Around The World In A Day Album. "PrincePrincePrince u have to sign this! Where's your mama? I have to go to my job! Why don't you have a job! PrincePrincePrince u have to sign this! That album's 20 years old! What do you want an autograph for? So you can give it to EBay? PrincePrincePrince u have to sign this! This kid was SKINNY! I mean THIN! I mean, thinner than ME! PrincePrincePrince u have to sign this! I'm your biggest fan! I have all your albums! ...well, so do I! I have to go to my JOB! Why don't u have a job?" Paisly park - towards the of the set I'm sure there's more here. There was a 10 min break because there were mike problems from the start (they'd taped a napkin over his mike to help), and Prince was having a tough time being heard. He asked if we could hear the guitar and played a bit for us in a quasi soundcheck. At one point he said "kick drum and snare" and got no response, and switched entirely to hand gestures to queue the band. Prince went up to the upper level during the break and talked to a woman that we concluded was his new bride. 2nd set - opens with Joy In Repetition - long segment having us say "joy" on cue with Candy playing sax and Prince saying how beautiful it was and making like he was going to cry includes a looong Peach jam ("we're gonna keep this one goin for 20 minutes" he says before we can tell what it is) with about 15 ladies and one guy dancing on stage. Others tried to get up too as Prince's security tried to pull all the crowd rushers off. One girl stage dived. 2nd to last is Johnny - Alphabet St - Johnny to a bass line like Days of Wild or Thank You (Falletineme Be Mice Elf Again) with one of the audience dancers from the first show back on stage Santana Medley All in all, over 2 hours, and although there were a lot of long jams, this list doesn't cover it...lots of looonnnnggg guitar jams, with Prince lookin like he's having FUN! Smiling, jammin, lovin it. Everything I'd hoped an aftershow would be. Oh...Membership has it's privledges - whisking up the back entrance to the taped off area in front of the stage - sweet!

Off da HOOOK!!! So much fun!!! The best! Everybody was amazed and couldn't believe he was in Portland of all places playing an aftershow!!! The Roseland wanted even MORE at 3am!!! Rolled 2 both concerts alone because I wanted 2 take everything in with no distractions, but my radio fam in Portland keeped hitting me up on my 2way while they were in da house! Much love 2 the NPGMC, and if WNPG ever happens I'm putting in my application!! Real music lives!! 2 all who witnessed the funk, U know what I'm talkin about...
GeminEye P.S.- I'm mad at folks who think Prince is "pushing" his religion on people. More on this in a separate post 2 come...

The last 48 hours have been almost surreal to me.
First the Seattle show and Afterparty, and the very next day, down to Portland to do it all over again.....this time, with the Funk-dawgin'-ist and chicken-greasiest afterhours show one could even imagine!! Absolutely amazing! I never thought I would ever come within 50 feet of the man, but after last night, that all changed. By midset of the afterhours show, I had crept up within two bodies of the front of the stage and watched in awe as "The Man" whailed away at his blues and funk riffs right in front of me! Unbelievable. At one point, he leaned over the left side of the stage during the ending solo of a jam and I started a "Go, Prince...Go, Prince" chant with the peeps around me as we bounced to the jam, raised hands within inches of his outstretched guitar neck. As he hit the last chord and the lights went out at the end of the song, he looked down at us and said (off mic.) "Ya'll R Crazy.." and smiled.... hahahaha.....crazy fun! The place was rockin'! Like previous reports, you could feel the floor of the Roseland Club wavering as the crowd bounced to the funk! I was a little disappointed with some of the crowd that turned out (from radio announcements of the after hours show.....do the stations usually promote them in the other cities??), but most of the haters/drunks dispersed ratherly quickly into the set, leaving more space for the "Rainbow Children". Anyways, as you can tell the last 48 hours have been amazing for me. I have seen The Man only once when he came to the Gorge in Washington in '97, so this whole experience was really intense. I know most of you can feel me on this, and I can now relate more to you hardcore fans that have been to so many of his shows and these after shows/parties. Peace and be wild to my NW-NPGers!!!--especially BK and Jennifer (Positivity)!!

It was great to meet many of the Org members from Oregon, Washington and California who came to the show (Connie, Michelle, Dorothy, Gemineye, Jennifer and others) Props to you!
The aftershow was another concert in itself…. Even MUCH funkier than the show! Calhoun Square…. Oh… my… Takumi (Prince's personal tech)told me that Portland was the last city on the tour and they were all going seprate ways for now and taking a one month break from touring. I’m sure prince was getting his musical rock off last night at the Portland Aftershow before he takes his one month break. I feel so fortunate to have witnessed, but also fell Portland was deserving of this and was VERY into it. 24 hours later, I still haven’t fully recovered from the funk.

Sounds indeed like he's kicking ass like never before!
But more than one month without any reports??? You know, with them, you're in heaven and hell and without them, too! Now I only hope he's really getting some live shows ready for release and will tour the rest of the world after you lucky americans have been partyng with him at the celebration!
