Oakland, rocked it! - Anyone catch the setlist? Folks, that was awesome! I've seen Prince in concert probably five times and I still can't believe the energy he has. The show must've been close to three hours long! And I have to say that three hours just flew by. Who else can do that?? How does his band keep up with him, especially when he does the aftershow jam sessions?
By the way, was there an aftershow? If it had been a weekend, I would've looked into that more, but I was plenty satisfied last night even without an aftershow. And that soundcheck was really cool. It's great that they even bother to do that. Most big bands would have their roadies do the soundcheck. But I guess Prince is too much of a perfectionist to let someone else tell him how it's supposed to sound. Anyway, it was great to see/hear them jam like that before the show. As others have been saying, it's best not to expect anything from the soundcheck. Just sit back and enjoy what you get. So here's my question: Did anyone write down the set list? I didn't, but I'd like to have it for the sake of remembering the great experience. I'll show you what I've put together so far, but it's definitely not correct. It's out of order and I may have missed some songs. If anyone can help fix it up, please do. soundcheck: The Ghetto jazz jam Ballad of Dorothy Parker Girls and Boys (snippet) Do U Lie show: The Rainbow Children Muse 2 The Pharoah Xnophobia A Case Of U Mellow 1+1+1=3 Love Rollercoaster The Other Side Of The Pillow - speech about radio Strange Relationship Pass the peas Sing A Simple Song La La La Means I Love U Didn't Cha Know When U Were Mine Abraham Lincoln (is that the title?) Family Name Take Me With U Raspberry Beret Everlasting Now "encore": piano medley (which songs were part of the medley and which were full songs?) Adore I Wanna Be Your Lover blues jam Diamonds and Pearls The Beautiful Ones Condition Of The Heart Do Me Baby Do U Lie Free Starfish And Coffee Sometimes It Snows In April Nothing Compares 2 U Purple Rain Joy in Repetition How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore Anna Stesia Once again, great show! If you haven't seen it, you really should.

Thanks for the review... I'm attending the show here in Phoenix tomorrow, I can hardly stand the wait! (smile) Patience is a great virtue... so they say... Good to know you enjoyed the experience. Take care!
Thanks once again. (NPGMC Member)

You had to be there to experience the energy, I enjoyed myself as well, your list sounds right to me, I just was getting my dance on, there was no time to write the list down, but it sounds like you got the list together. I was very pleased with the concert last night in Oakland, Prince was off the hook, I am looking forward to going to the Celebration, now there is no doubt in my mind, we are in for a treat if Prince performs all week at the Celebration. Let's all rise up and find a cause to back, so we can teach the children the revelations of their acts. Hope to see you all at the Celebration.Peace and B wild.

Track 2 of the Setlist was "Expectation".
The show was off da hook!! I have seen him 50+ times (yeah, i know...freak!!), and this show was my favorite jam! the energy was high and he was also very funny on stage! The "drunk uncle dance" was hilarious! ANd when the older man came up to dance on 1+1+1=3, that was the best! He tore it up and even cracked Prince up! Thanks to the NPGMC for a very smooth process. Very organized with the lines and seating. It is so worth the 100.00 a year once you get a concert! I am hoping he hits up Europe on this tour as they deserve it! I would write a full on review, but I am back to work on 4 hours sleep and my 33 yo body is sure feeling it today! Loved meeting all the people from the BAY! And Bobby once again tore it up on stage! You Pimp!! =)

Your set list for the main show in 100% dead-on accurate (I don't know what the name of that Abraham Lincoln song is either but I think, looking at other setlists, it might be "Avalanche").
You got most of the songs in the encore correct, although a few are out of order. My order is closer, although still might not be totally exact: encore: piano medley 1: Adore (full) I Wanna Be Your Lover Do Me, Baby Girls & Boys Joy In Repetition (full) piano medley 2: Free Starfish And Coffee Diamonds and Pearls Condition Of The Heart Sometimes It Snows In April The Beautiful Ones Purple Rain (full) How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore (full) Nothing Compares 2 U (full) Anna Stesia [This message was edited Thu Apr 25 11:14:53 PDT 2002 by boxermj] [This message was edited Thu Apr 25 11:15:45 PDT 2002 by boxermj]

you missed "Cream" in your soundcheck list. And if memory serves, didn't he also do part of "Girls & Boys" during the sound check. Here is my recollection:
The Ghetto Expectation She Loves Me For Me Cream Girls & Boys Brick House (just the groove, for like a minute) Ballad of Dorothy Parker Do U Lie thamt may be out of order

Also in the Piano Medley:
The Most Beautiful Girl in the World I was there and loved just about every minute (except the preaching). Traffic caused me to miss the soundcheck, but I still managed to end up with some pretty good seats. NPGMC mos def hooked it up! My highlights were "Snoop's Uncle Junebug" getting his groove on back & forth on the stage....and Strange Relationship. I actually enjoyed the first 1/2 of the show better when it was mainly material from TRC - for me, newer is always better than familiar. I was disappointed there was no aftershow, but that's just me being greedy - especially after a 3 HOUR show! The Man is amazing!

Thanks for the help with the list!
It's nice to see that others enjoyed the show as much as I did. Anyone know if he's coming back this summer? I had originally thought he was gonna play in Concord on May 3rd (I'm not sure where I got that) but it doesn't look like that'll happen. I can't complain though. I was lucky enough to catch the Oakland show (from the 5th row).

It was perfect. I think I had the best seats in the house: first "real" row center, right behind the pit. During the piano medley I had my feet up on the railing, kicking back while Prince sang to me. Being in the "front front" row would've been cool, but it looks like a lot of work; you pretty much have to move around to everything! I was free to stand utterly transfixed during some of the guitar solos when I wanted to. Probably with my tongue hanging out!
I'll never be the same. This was the best ever. And thanks to everyone who made hanging out in line fun and stress-free. Ah, back to work. __________________________________________
