Prince said he may perform ENTIRE ALBUMS....

At the LA (4/20) soundcheck...Prince said that they have been talking about performing a different album in its entirety EACH NIGHT at the Celebration this year! He mentioned "Lovesexy" and the crowd went nuts! But then he said there are certain songs he'll never perform again...then mentioned "Red Corvette". WOW! (I posted this in the Celebration area too...sorry if that was in bad form smile )

You mean to tell me that he'll never perform LRC again? Or, are you pulling our legs with a title like "Red Corvette." I hope that you're joking. I love LRC. Oy. sad

No...I'm not joking....I meant "Little Red Corvette". Actually, he said it twice...during the soundcheck and then later during the show when he does his speech about how the radio industry sucks since its all corporately ran these days. He mentioned how they play the same songs "over and over and over"....then he said, "...man I'm telling you, I'll NEVER play 'Little Red Corvette' again!"

I don't listen to the radio much but, to my knowledge, they haven't played LRC over and over again for many years now. lol

No more LRC? Well, we'll just see about that. no no no!

Really can't blame him for wanting to cut that out of the set list forever. Hasn't he played LRC on nearly every tour since 1983?

I'm not sure him mentioning Corvette had anything to do with radio playing it over and over (probably had more to do with some of the lyrics). I have a feeling it may have been just a tangent. But nevertheless it is one of his most played songs.

No, I guess I don't blame him if that's the case. P can do whatever he wants. I'm not gonna complain. I will always love that song tho. smile

OK, so now we have four theories, lol.

1) it's been overplayed on the radio
2) it's been performed too often since 1983
3) it's because of some of the lyrics
4) it's a tangent

Maybe it's all 4, who knows? Or, none of the above.

He likes to keep us guessing. kiss

TRON

The important thing here is that he may play entire albums. Little Red Corvette- good riddance. I mean it's a nice song and all but I'd much rather hear "Dance On" for instance. I missed some of his best early tours and this would be the opportunity of a lifetime. Can't really see him doing "Dirty Mind" in its entirety though, can you?

I told you guys get ready he's retiring some of his coolest songs. I have heard Little Red many times, but if he did the long version or the Sign O the times tour version I would be happy. He'll snap out of it. Lots of artists say they retire or say they're never playing something again yet still go back to it eventually. It bugs teh shit out of me when an artist can't recognize his past as being brilliant yet still play new songs and move forward. Anybody see the Aerosmith MTV show? They always play what the fans want but mix in their new stuff too. The past is nothing to be ashamed of, unless you're afraid it's better than the present. I wonder what other albums he could play in their entirety?

I'd certainly would like to hear something like that (especially Lovesexy).

Pink Floyd used to play complete albums in the 70s (Dark Side of the moon was played in its entirety at virtually all concerts from 1972-1975 and also again in 1994, Wish you were here was played completely from 1975-1977, Animals was played completely in 1977 and The Wall was performed live in 1980 and 1981).

LMAO!!!

I really don't care if he never sings LRC again - good song, but I know he's DAMN tired of it!

Think about it, ANYTIME someone mentions Prince (in the general public) what songs come to mind? LRC, PR, Let's Go Crazy - they pull out the oldest footage, blah, blah, blah.

I don't blame him. It's 2002 people! I had my fill of LRC in '83!

star

DAMN, if he does whole albums @ the Celebration, I'm gonna leap off a mountain. I CAN'T GO!!!!! cry mad cry
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

He's already mentioned that he won't perform LRC anymore
in 1999.

Rave Un2 The Year 2000 was the last time some of the big hits would ever be performed.

At least, that's what Prince himself said at the time.

I agree. When Prince says he'll never play "LRC" ever again, take that announcement with a grain of salt.Artists always say things like this, only to change their minds years later.

That idea maybe a bit limiting. Could he get through any of his past albums without offending himself.
I'm not gonna sing along, I may get carried away and sing an offending word. I don't wanna get chucked out.

- It´s no surprise....it´s been a long time since he didnt play it. I never heard the complete Little Red Corvette live, not even in 85. He only plays the edited part, as if it was an obligation....for me, edited songs are worst than censorship of lyrics

Yeah they did three shows in England. And each night they played entire albums. Cheap Trick, In Color and Heaven Tonight. Now hes mentioned this, what albums do you think deserve the treatment! I would like to see...

Lovesexy
The Truth (That would be interesting!)
Parade
The Rainbow Children

Actually these are more like the albums i think he would consider doing...maybe SOTT too. I would love to hear the Gold Experience but cannot see it happening with those lyrics, Come would also be pretty neat.

That's the problem. I would love to see Gold or 1999, but there ain't no chance in hell he would perform either of those...I guess, if he performs 5 nights, I would love to see Lovesexy, SOTT, Parade, ATWIAD, and Purple Rain or The Truth. If he won't play darling nikki, just replace it with 17 Days. I'm cool with that :0
