April 19th Friday

Prince rocked L.A. like it has never been rocked before. From the opening all the way until "Anna Stesia" at end, it was a beautiful night. I have never seen a L.A. crowd that into somebody ever but then again, I have never seen Prince any better. Not even the Wiltern in '86, not the Country Club in the wee wee hours in '87, those shows were hot but....Friday night was molten lava. Can't forget the Key Club in '98, that was smoking but Friday night, it was too funky. The crowd was on his side from the first note of Candy Dulfer's sax. What an entrance and what a band, they were tighter than a drum. See, the man can get funky on "1+1+1=3","Love Roller Coaster"
and "Xenophibia" and then he can cover Joni Mitchell. No one else can do that. He's old school, he's new school, he can shout and shimmy and then he melt you with "La La La La Means I Love You". The new stuff sounded great and the old stuff did too, can ya believe "Purple Rain" without the guitar solo and it worked. He did the whole show without doing the splits because it was all about the music. Give the drummer, John Blackwell....some, give Renato, the man on the keyboards..... some because he was awesome, give Greg the funky bone player.....some because he was playing it for all of the big girls, give Candy Dulfer.....some because she was so saxy and give Rhonda S.....some because she is finist bass player around. It was the best show that I had ever seen in L.A. and I have seen many. Prince is the King and he rocked it like it was 2002.
