Well...what can I say - I had the time of my life. It started out stellar and went up from there. The head usher let me in the front of the line, because i'm in a wheelchair (and don't worry any of you - I wasn't taking your space...there's only a couple wheelchair spaces anyhow!!) I tried to get to front row, stage right, but was told by the head usher that I couldn't sit there because that would be blocking the stairs and violate fire codes. He had me go to the front row of the next section. Well..everyone else was in the first three rows, and I was the sole audience in the next section. So...while all of you were watching the stage, what makes the right corner of my eyes, but a shortish man in a blight brown suit and a knit cap. He slowly walks by me and sees me and says "Heeeyyyyy..." as only he could. It's Prince! Y'all are watching the stage, expecting him to come out the back, and i've got Prince within hand shaking distance. I've imagined this moment my whole life (as i'm sure you all have), and played out what I would say and what I would do. And what do I do...I blabber in coherently "Hey...great to see you, man" and offer my hand to shake, which he does...before proceeding onto the stage to rock the house for 3 1/2 m.f'ing hours. After he got to the stage, then what I SHOULD have said came to mind, like "Love you, man", "You're the greatest", or how about, "They won't let me sit in the front row, and when you take the stage, everyone is gonna stand up and I won't be able to see... any chance you k now anyone who can get me on the stage so I can see?" But no...what do I say? "Great to see you, man." And people can tell me all they want - "Mabye next time." But there will be NO next time. Unless... if it happens, guaranteed I'm there!!
The show was awesome. I have no qualms about anything. He gave us a great soundcheck. It was a once in a lifetime chance, and if anyone complains that he didn't play "their" song or whatever...they should be barred from the club.
The show was amazing. And everyone was responsive to EVERYTHING, which was great. Sometimes I go to a show, and the artist doesn't play "the hit" but other stuff. asnd eveeyone starts talking or doing other things. He HAD the entire theater for the full 2 1/2 hours. I'm not 100% into "The Rainbow Children" as I think a lot of it is hockey...but live the music take on a whole new dimension. If he isn't recording these shows for a "Rainbow Children LIVE"...
Ben...it was great meeting you. You da man!! Bob...I didn't get to meet you, but I wanted to. You're one crazy mofo! Next time you're in town i'm hanging with you. all I gotta do to get your party started is tell you Prince is gonna play "Lovesexy" live!

I saw you from across the begining of the line,I slepted on the street with some other fams to be there.
As I stood there in line I saw you come to the front of the line,get you pass on & was comtemplating on going over to say hello , or to offer any assistance, but you held your own!! I like that. So glad you had a great time. (I would have put in the front- plenty of room!!).The girl who was passing out the passes, I guess she works for PRINCE, PRINCY.. FIRE HER -ASS. She was talking shit on people that would come up & ask questions & then walk off, I found her to be FREE RANGE RUDE. Unlike our man...LARRY!

That was the best thing you could of said. He probably gets tired of hearing "I love you, your the greatest...blah blah blah blah". Good job you actually treated him like an everyday person instead of a Movie Star.

She was doing her best to start early and check IDs and mark off names on a list of hundreds of people, trying to get as many done as possible before the doors open so YOU could go in quickly instead of being stuck waiting longer, and person after person kept coming up and asking the same questions over and over instead of just waiting in line like everyone else. It slowed the check in down and made us all wait longer. Props to her for even having the forethought to go through the line early in the first place. In other cities like New York, they just stayed at the table and everyone came up one by one starting at 5, took forever. By going through the line early, I'm sure they got everyone in by 6:30. Looked like it to me. Try a little empathy and see it from the other side.

I'm the man to hang out with, though...as for "holding my own", I went up to the Palladium show on the Hit n Run tour ticketless. When the ticket people didn't buy my story that I had purchased my tickets over the phone, I started heading back to my van....when all of a sudden I see something crumbled on the ground. I rolled my chair over it and waited til the line moved forward 8 people. Then, I asked the next person to pick up my "tickets". Sure enough, it was 2 comp tickets. I got in no problem! Hold my own? Yeah...I hold my own!

My one regret of the night...not going to the aftershow. I live in irvine, and I have an attendent that puts me to bed at night. i didn't want to be rude and stay out too late, risking her not being able to get me to bed. When i told her the next day i could have gone to the aftershow, she said she would have come and put me to bed when I came how...even if it was 4ish. Oh well...next time (tho there won't be a next time!!!)
