Eight Days Later Stanley clark, Art blakey, Billy Cobham, the the, Jah Wobble, and Dennis Chambers.I have the ticket stubs to all these concert. To see these guys practicly blew my nuts off!! On music merit alone they were the tops. And I reckon if I was around for Duke Ellington he'd a done the same. The Duke with his massive body of music and ellegance. His command of his musicians and music.
Then there's the emmancipated one.Prince.What I saw last Tuesday night was my Ellingtonian night. His evolving body of music and musicians. There passion. His undisputed style was there for all to see on that stage at Lincoln Center.Of course the sensation was heightened by the fith rowseats.Speaker system 15 feet away!Compliments of the greatest fan of all my brotha in Hawaii. This concert blew me away! That evening he brought Stone Soul and fusion to the picnic. A Base playa that plays standup and slaps with power and finesse. She sings sweetly to. Then theres the brilliant pianist, with a library of sounds. And the drummer who leaves his guts out for all to see and hear. Then our man himself conducting with his guitar.Fusing styles that make you listen to his playing. WHAT A BAND!!!!! His voice working with the several different guitars was so dead on it gave me goose bumps. He changed an old standard enough that it was fresh. Jazzing up and down was what he did. His horn section was slidin' and glidin'with enough energy that I would of marched to New Orleans if they led the way! The NPG experience was there for all to see when he called for the house lights to go up.People sitting near the roof were raising it with all that dancin'. When he sat down and worked his keyboard it seemed like a personal gift to us.He is a treasure amongst a business that gives us fluff. The cheesiest songs that he sings offers more than most top ten hits. His commentary on the state of the music industry is on the money. At the sound check he asked the crowd what we thought of our music stations. The crowd gave a negative respons. He doesn't like his local stations in his home town either. So WNPG came on the air with a marathon. To his fan club he gave resounding respect and praise.Often.U are his fanclub yes.But when was the last time an artist acknowledged his people so much? After the show me and my girl Glo walked in glee and with ringing ears to the club.U know the deal.If you have the pass u get in.Your guest pays.WE were out of cash.Check didn't clear.Doorman says sorry. I was dejected.Glo doesn't throw in the towell to fast. We turn the corner and members of the P-FUNK ALLSTARS were comming out a side door and and putting there equipment on the bus."let's try" she said with her eyes. We help a guitarist with the door-step in- a couple of other guys walk up black lite lit stairwell with strips of neon.Magic tunnel ends we open the last door and step into THE WORLD.WE walk and I'm feeling phantom taps on my shoulder."sir could u 2 step this way".But it never happened.WE made into the MAN'S after party!! Larry Grahm gave a freekin' base funk clinic!! Gloria gives George Clinton a minny back rub and the night that is still giving me incredible energy parties on into the early morning. MY BROTHA I LOVE U AND THANK U !!! Have fun at the L.A. show.PEACE to U all. | |
