This is my 9th Prince show and I must say he just keeps on getting better..My fiance and I got into the soundcheck just as he was starting to play The Ballad of Dorothy Parker and he was teaching Candy the sax solo portion.He said that Maceo was snowed in at Colorado..The songs played during soundcheck were:

He was teasing the crowd during The Ladder asking if anyone knew the next cord for the part that he was playing on the piano..Also he did not play guitar at all during soundcheck and he was flipping thru some kind of notebook and was writing notes..He played the entire Money Don't Matter and the entire NPGMC sang the chours!!! That was a personal highlight for me as this is one of my all time favorite jamz by the man..Overall the soundcheck was fun(although a litte short) and Prince was having fun and making jokes thru out. He also comment about the possibilty of playing all nights at the Celebration and that there might be "Theme Night"(playing Lovesexy in full) Someone asked how much and he said the he does not know yet..

The concert started around 8:05 with Candy in the audience playing as the sounds of The Rainbow Children build in the mix.The setlist is as follows

The crowd seemed to be very into the show although Prince had to bring the "Balcony Crowd" into the show on several occasions..Highlights for me were the Piano Medley,Stange Relationship and Family Name. While the Hit N' Run show was for crowd that thinks the Prince's last album was Purple Rain, this show was 4 sure 4 the fans..He made the usual comment about Purple Rain(in fact he did not play this at the show) and also commented on not wanting to play Little Red Corvette anymore because he is sick of hearing it on the radio. Jerome made a surpise appearance during a drum solo by John Blackwell holding a mirror while Blackwell played drums. Another surpise was that he did not change outfits but one time.I give this show my highest rating and I if/when Prince comes near your town GO SEE THIS SHOW and if you are not a a club member JOIN!!!!

This was one of the best Prince concerts. Now, since I am a Prince fan, I always enjoy his concerts, but this One Nite Alone tour really is Prince at his best.

The versions of "Muse 2 the Pharoh" and "Mellow" are better than on "The Rainbow Children" CD. They are amazing, and I think they work better live. His guitar work is so muscular and raw. It brings an amazing quality to the songs.

And I love the staging. The velvet fabric hanging down helps make the stage seem more intimate and immediate. The three large video screens with video projection on them during the songs also adds a frenetic energy and another layer of meaning. It's a very visual concert.

My friend and I got to the Kodak Theater at 3:00 PM, and the line was already down the block. We waited until I think it was nearly 6:00 PM to get in for the soundcheck. It was great to see Prince relaxed and doing his job, shouting out chords to Candy, working out a piano solo with Renato. Prince seemed like he was having fun. My friend commented that it was nice to see Prince like that instead of fussy like he has been on a couple of past tours. We met a couple of really nice people standing in line and sitting next to us. We were trading stories of past Prince concerts, our favorite sexy/seductive Prince songs to burn on CD and give to hopeful boyfriends/girlfriends, when we first started listening to Prince, etc.

Seeing all the beatiful people at the concert really made me want to have a chance to get to know everyone, even the woman sitting a few rows behind me who was singing along loudly in the most God-awful, out of key voice! It was very funny. Prince and his music seems to bridge ages and races, gender and sexual orientation, and it makes for a really great environment. Even in his preaching, which usually I don't care for, the message was positive. He said not to look at the differences in each other but look at the similarities. Everyone was cheering and clapping, and it made me feel good about things.

I hope everyone had as good an experience as I did. And for anyone reading this in the upcoming tour cities, I highly recommend the concert. Peace, and love for one another.

Did anyone make it to the aftershow? By the time we got to the HOB, there was a line stretching down Sunset, and no parking to be found. In fact, the cops blocked off the HOB parking lot, guess it filled up in two minutes.

Since the meter was ticking on the babysitter, I decided to end the night with some $$ still in pocket so we headed home. Would love to hear what we missed, as it sounded like Prince was just getting warmed up at the show. Bet he to' it up at HOB.

I was at the aftershow, FRONT and CENTER !! It was a legendary show.... Words cannot describe. It was like my username - soulpsychedelicide. There were some of the most incredible, blistering, guitar solos ever. Sheila E played percussion throught the entire set and Larry Graham funked out on the bass. It was mind-blowing.
