L.A. concert experience, 4/20

Just came back from the concert tonight! It was exhilirating! The sold out Kodak Theater had a blast and Prince was smokin'! Larry Graham and Sheila E. made an appearance. She even sang "Love Bizarre" with Prince on the piano. Hightlights for me are songs from The Rainbow Children-- TRC, Muse 2 the Pharaoh, Mellow, Family Name, 1+1+1 is 3 and The Everlasting Now; I wished he sang Last December and She Loves Me 4 Me, too. It would have been great to hear them live as well!!! Of course, Xenophobia is a standout song. Can't wait for Prince to release this song! Other hightlights for me was when he sang Sometimes It Snows in April and I Love You But I Don't Trust U Anymore back to back-- two of the saddest Prince songs to me-- and just made me cry. These songs mean a lot to me-- Sometimes It Snows In April came out in the '80s when I was going through identity crisis in my teens and couldn't express the love I had for a close friend. I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore came out during the time I had a falling out with my first boyfriend of two years. So imagine the thrill and despair I felt when I heard Prince sang these songs. Thank you Prince, for the gift of music! The only low point for me was when Prince, in his parting speech, although he insists that he wasn't there to preach, told us to read the scriptures, particularly the New World Translation-- that it's the best translation around and to trust him on that. I believe there's a time and place for that. Singing Anna Stetia at the end of the concert was uplifting enough but to end it with the above statement dampened it for me. I love you, Prince. I really do, but please lighten up on the Jehovah Witness stuff. I didn't make it to the aftershow at House of Blues because I was exhausted from screaming my lungs out plus I had to work this morning. I did catch the last 20 minutes of the soundcheck this afternoon, though; the line was long-- I got there at 4PM and didn't get in until around 6PM. Overall, minus the preaching, it was the best Prince concert I've been to and Prince demonstrated once again how great an artist he is-- passionate and exciting! Go see it and be blown away!!!

Yeah the show was wonderful. The hour long piano medley was amazing. It was great to hear him play complete songs. I had never heard him play the bridge of "Take Me With You" and "Rasberry Beret" before. He seemed to enjoy playing these tunes more than in the past. I too was a little put off by the JW plugs,I've grown to dislike Larry Graham and wish he would go away, but overall the awesome performance made up for the preaching.
By the way, does anyone know if he has ever performed "Crucial" in concert? Would've loved to hear that one added in the medley.

I too was at the concert this evening. WOW! There ain't a performer on this earth that can touch him. My highlight was that he played Raspberry Beret in it's entirety. Of all the times I've seen him perform the song live that was the first time I remember him doing it complete. I could've done without the sermon but he did have some interesting things to say. It was cool to see Sheila,Larry and Jerome in the hizz-house. Hollywood responded well to him and he to us. That part about everybody has a relative that dances like this was hilarious. U should've seen that funky dance. That big guy who hopped on stage to dance was hilarious! 1+1+1=3 was the bomb as was When U were mine and Love Rollercoaster were great surprises. Overall a great and positive experience. Come back to Hollywood soon P.
