Thoughts from a 16-year-old -- THE LAKELAND SHOW!!

OK, fellow orgers, be kind. This is my daughter's first visit here and Sat. nite was her first Prince concert. We had an UNBELIEVABLE time at the UNBELIEVABLE performance. And the venue folks in Lakeland did a mighty fine job, too, considering the very short notice.

Oh yea, blueangel, you really DID impress the man!! I had my binoculars zeroed in on his face (we were about the 21st row) and he kept looking back at you even as he walked away!! Good job -- I'll bet you're STILL dizzy!

AMYTHYST(II)'s REVIEW:

Well, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from a
Prince concert, but I had images in my mind of weird
people, weird music and a weird guy onstage. (Like my
Mom reminded me, I was probably thinking of his
performance on the MTV awards forever ago when he had
the butt cheeks cut out of his suit. Not pretty.)

I was 1/3 right. Some of the people there looked
like they just dropped out of the 80s, or better yet,
just grabbed the first random piece of clothing they
could find. My least favorite shirt was the one
a guy was wearing that had blue and white tropical
flowers on it.... that were COMPLETELY out of focus.
(Made your head hurt, yet you couldn't help but stare
at it.)

Even before we got back to the venue, after picking
up our tickets and then finding a mall, my Mom
pointed out EVERY SINGLE person who had on the
slightest shade of purple. We'd just look at each
other with faces that said "Oh yeah. Definitely a
Prince fan."

Well, once we got into the theater, after more then an
hour wait, we found our seats and got ready. Every
time a freaky looking person would walk by I couldn't
help but think, "Please don't be the person sitting
next to me." I lucked out every time.

Eventually the show started. It was a really great and
entertaining show. I was kind of shocked to see Prince in
such a plain suit that didn't at all freak me out!
He looked very nice!! It was also hard to believe that
he's in his 40s and can STILL do all that.

My favorite part of the show was when it was just him
and the piano doing all the differnt songs. My favorite song is "The Beautiful Ones" and I was so excited when I heard the first few notes and realized he was going to sing it!!

Prince is a truely a talented man.

Anyway, 2 hours and 45 minutes later, the concert was over.
I think my main conclusion is that HE isn't the weird
one, his fans are. wink

So, after all the *NSYNC, Ricky Martin and Britney Spears concerts I've dragged my Mom to, this was my "punishment?" Too bad I wasn't "punished" like this when I got my
speeding ticket!!! =D

Prince is for ALL ages, he is for all species. Even DONKEYS feel great passion when listening to his music.

amythyst, your daughter sounds like a sweetheart and it's so great that you took her!! and i gotta say....thanks for the encouragement wink i was so scared after i sang it that i looked up and saw him making that hilarious face at me, and then i just blushed and looked away. it's great to know that it wasn't just a dream! wink

I was kinda hoping that the 16 year old's review would state that after seeing the show, it really would be punishment to go see NSync or Britney. But you can't convince the kiddies overnight!!

Seriously though, glad you enjoyed. smile

I was really surprised to see as many teenagers as I did at the show. It's funny, Amythyth(II) was right, there were some people definately stuck in the eighties! There was this one brother in an all purple suit with big-ass gold chains hangin out over his tie. All he needed was a Jerri Curl and he would have been all set!

The most surprising thing to me was two older ladies that were in line in front of my wife and I. They had to be in their late 50's/ early 60's at least, but there they were. I tried to spot them after the show started just to catch a glimpse of them jamming to Love Rollercaoster or something, but I lost them!

Last time I saw Prince in Miami, I sat next to an elementry school principal!

Not only that but she was in her 60's!

Very well dressed, gracefully aged, black woman from Miami.

SHE totally made my night as she screemed at the top of her lungs and kept telling me, pulling on my arm...

"You know he's fine!"

I loved it.

Prince will always be eternal...
