Has any1 else had a bad experience with Prince? After reading about the girl at the concert the other night it made me realise that Prince can be an asshole sometimes. I witnessed him tell a girl in London, that had waited 4 hours for an autograph to, "get a life". Was he scared she'd, "make a profit" from it?

Something that I've noticed with most of these bad experiences that people have had when speaking to Prince is that all of the experiences have a common theme. Prince seems to get edgy whenever people try 2 give him stuff they've done, or when they ask 4 an autograph, and I think that maybe it is because of the fact that in these instances people are treating Prince as if he is something above them. In essence, I mean that they treat him like a celebrity instead of a person. Most of the people I've talked to who have just simply talked to him have said he is very nice and polite. This is just a theory, but if u think about it, it does make a little sense. The Mothership Connection... Uhhh ... Prince is a celebrity!!! And he has more talent than ever will dream of having, so in my eyes, he is above me. When/if ever get the chance 2 meet Prince, will surely try 2 "simply talk 2 him." However, he and his music have been such a big part of my life, 'm not sure 'll have the strength 2 hold off asking 4 an autograph. know sound like a rude, obsessive fam when say that, but 'm simply being honest. will try 2 b good, so that Prince can/will b nice 2 me ... but it will b TOUGH!!!

Or maybe just stay away, and listen to his music, on your CD player or at a concert. Afterall, that's what he really means to us when it all boils down: MUSIC. [This message was edited Mon Apr 1 18:09:37 PST 2002 by purpleleaf7]

[This message was edited Mon Apr 1 18:06:47 PST 2002 by purpleleaf7] Some people who have supported and admired Prince for many years seek to have some small acknowledgement from him. Whether it's just a smile, or whether he answers a question for them at a soundcheck. For some, their dreams come true just by having Prince acknowledge them in some way. But others who end up getting dissed or get caught up in some aftershow-club-bodyguard hassles have different stories to tell.

The thing is, he is a celeb, he has to learn how to control it. He's had enough time in the business to learn by now, surely. If he had came to Scotland and spoke to some1 like he did the other night, he would have been very lucky not 2 get a punch in the head, security or not

The way Prince treats his fans is unbelievable...by "celebrity" standards! I do public relations and have had the opportunity to work with many celebrities at events and see both their "public" face and the face they put on when the cameras and spotlights are off. And believe me some of these celebs act more immature than my 4 year old! Most are very insecure, demand SO much special treatment and then whine about doing what they've been paid big money to do. The fact that Prince has issues with people treating him like a celeb is cool in my opinion!

I once heard a story about a fan who met Prince at a nightclub in 1996,right after 'Emancipation' came out.The fan told Prince "I really like your new album".Prince replied "And your point would be what?".
Perhaps he was just having a bad day,and didn't wanna be bothered, but couldn't he have just said a simple "Thank you" and be done with it? For this reason,I really have no interest in meeting Prince or any other celebrities.I'd rather just admire their music or movies, without having to deal with the "superstar/ego" thing.

Well there have been plenty of stories about his unkind behavior in the early days but I am sure he has got nicer as he's got older. As far as the incident with the girl, I think he should have accepted the thing. he didn't have to listen to it. he could have thrown it out if he wanted to. But if someone gives you a gift than you should accept it. I think he forgets how his fans feel about him. he should be careful how he treats them. Meeting them might not be a highlight in his life but it is a major highlight to the fan.

I think that story was from the "Purple Reign" biography (originally published under a different title in the UK) that came out a few years ago. Given that the book is a shoddy piece of work filled with plagiarism, I don't find it very credible. Even if the story is true, Prince's remark could have been taken out of context. For instance, he might have been interrupted while in conversation with someone else. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

I once approached Prince and asked him to sign my copy of the Torah and after spitting on me, he asked, "How was Auschwitz?" And I said, "You little dwarf! I wasn't even alive then!" And he said, "Well, maybe you shoulda been, cuz then now you'd be dead and I wouldn't have to look at your ugly ass!" I pushed him really hard and he called me a fairy.
