Apology to Divinity Thread OK--I know this is in the wrong forum--but it really should be next to the other related threads in this forum so I'm posting it here.
After giving yesterday's thread some thought, I think it's time to let this whole issue go and give Divinity an apology. In the end, I think most of us can agree that her approach, on Sunday, for a variety of reasons, was the wrong one to take. Yet we can also understand how a person would hope to receive acknowledgement from her idol, etc. Personally, I hope that Divinity understands that she does not need Prince's personal recognition to be a great human being worthy of love and respect. I'm sure she already knows that. I don't think she should be embarassed about what Prince said to her; it really wasn't a big deal and I think she really took it the wrong way. Looking some more at her website, she obviously is very committed to her music, which is great. I hope that Divinity is able to have some success with her career, and also that she continues to believe in herself. I do want to appologize for myself and others who were rather harsh to you on the thread--especially those who have taken shots at your mental state, web-site pictures, etc. I think a lot of us were really bothered by the title of your thread, which I still think was very misleading and unfair. We still should have been above some of the comments made to you. I hope you will persevere and not let this incident bring you down, and my sincerest apologies for any hurt we've caused you. Yes, my apologies, too, if I had upset you in any way. Best of luck with your career and please don't allow this one incident to get you down.

Wow, Brian,
I really applaud your efforts to put this behind us. Its good to just close up that mean cycle of threads and move on. My hats off to U for doing it. We all make mistakes. We voiced our opinions, lets just get over it. Water under tha bridge. =============================================

I had said early yesterday before the Divinity thread got really long that I understood how hurt and embarassed this poor girl must have felt, and I said she did not deserve the beat-down that she was getting.
There are people in this world who are very emotional and cry when they are hurt. It was cruel for people to pile on and call her "mentally disabled." Anybody who has ever given their best effort and then felt the sting of rejection or public embarassment has empathy for how she must have felt. Over the years, I have personally seen people crying outside of Prince aftershows/parties after they were refused entry or denied admission. For the perfect, chosen "Beatiful Ones" of the world who never feel this type of humiliation, more power to you, you have been blessed. But try to have a heart for others who were not as blessed as you were.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
oh darnit! I have heart! ::: who knew?::: lol.... like said in one of the posts b4, if Prince would do something like that 2 me I would cry myself 2 sleep 4 months.... lol
Therefore, can understand D's frustration.... bla bla bla... lets get over it now... PS--- the "disabled thing" thought was a lil ridiculous though hehehe

I think you are amazing for posting this thread. I wish more people were like you.
Respect. | |

Sorry Divinity. That was not my intentions. Brian you are a great person we need more people like you.

I seem 2 remember making a thread about the problems I face in everday life as a female. Then I was judged VERY harshly and called "Sasquatch" "fat and "whiney" among other things, after pouring my true feelings out 2 all.I didnt get any apology but I do know that there are those who will get what the deserve for reading my thoughts and posting their nonsense. Divinity may have dramatized what happened, and in retrospect I acknowledge it, but the way U all reacted 2 her quite frankly reminded me of the way I am treated by yellow bastards who dont know me or care 2. It disgusts me at the level of insensitivity of people on here. I am insensitive 2 when it comes to political arguments or arguments about Prince...but when it comes 2 situations such as these where someone's feelings were obviously hurt (whether they took it the right way in YOUR eyes) I can only have sympathy. And "taking shots at someone's mental state" truly tells me u r the asshole of assholes--and that U outrank me by far. I wouldnt even accept this apology...but Im sure Divinity is gracious enough 2. I wouldnt be. [This message was edited Tue Apr 2 14:41:12 PST 2002 by Nep2nes]

Let's not get carried away praising and thanking Brian. He was riding Divinity hard in that thread.

Oh, please...lol
First of all, the woman made a point of announcing her "disability", and apparently for no other reason than to gain sympathy, attention, and to make it seem as if Prince did something far worse than he did...using your disability to discredit another unfairly never stands very well in my eyes... Secondly, she then refused to say what her disability was to help those who read her story get a better and more truthful idea as to what part--if any--her disability played in the scenario she painted...and her statement that the Disabilities Act says she doesn't have to disclose what type of disability she has was ridiculous...lol...this is a discussion on a website, we're not hiring her for a job...!! Third, because of both of those things, she left herself wide open to others assigning her a "disability"--joking or not--based on what she did say...as well as based on what others who witnessed the incident had to say... Forth, she apparently misrepresented what happened at the soundcheck to an amazing degree...I mean, it was just night and day reading her account and then comparing it to all the others who witnessed the same thing.....she even goes so far as to misrepresent her music on her website as a "collaboration" with Prince...those are things you can not and should not do...and it's scary that she doesn't realize this... Fifth, she still hasn't grasped the concept that, when you give someone a GIFT and they refuse it, you do not insist that they take it...when you do that, it stops being a "gift", and the reason it's being "given" starts to become suspect...and you NEVER try and dictate the terms of which it's returned to you like she did(that is, telling Prince to bring the CD back to her if he doesn't want it...)...the only thing that is, is rude... Let's face it, folks...one of the most important things we need to learn as humans is that our actions have consequences...and Divinity's actions were close to horrendous, and can not and should not be excused because of "embarassment"...and wonderful that she's so committed to her art...but being committed to your art doesn't excuse Prince from criticism, nor should it excuse Divinity...or anyone for that matter...what, if she was only half-way committed to her music then she'd be more deserving of the reactions she got on her thread??...Does that make any sense whatsoever??...lol... If anyone said anything to her that they now feel was especially out of line, then by all means apologize...but do NOT apologize for stating the obvious and telling the truth...her actions deserve HUGE criticism, and I was glad to see so many willing to provide some...her mental state only became an issue because of her emphasis on being "disabled" without being willing to go into how she is or how it plays a part in her story...Divinity was wrong in all sorts of ways, yet didn't want to accept it or believe it, at least not on the thread she started...

Fair enough, but lets discuss the virtues of GRATEFULNESS. That is, being gracious enough to accept a gift from a fan who loves u and supports ur vision and ur career. Lets talk about THAT. I dont give a fuck if she wanted sympathy--if Prince cant be reasonable, then she has my fucking sympathy and it isnt gonna hurt U or anyone else, is it?? Dude, I wasnt there, dont claim 2 have been but I am very sensitive, and he must have said something "iffy" 4 her 2 cry like that. Put urself in her shoes. Geez, Nep, did you NOT grasp the concept that refusing copies of another person's music is standard in the business??...Did you NOT grasp the reality that everyone but divinity said when they said Prince was gracious in his refusal??... And why am I not surprised you'd "relate" with a woman who uses her disability for attention and to smear another person's good name??...lol

Did you even read the thread Divinity posted? The entire thread? I'm pretty certain (though I don't know for a fact) that if she would have given him a gift, any gift...other than a cd, he would have accepted it graciously. "If Prince can't be resonable." WB, the bottom line is that people make mistakes in life. Maybe if we would lighten up on her a bit, it would be easier for Divinity to understand why it's not right to go around posting misleading and inflamatory titles, and trying to get sympathy by saying she's disabled, etc. She obviously thought Prince made a reference to her outfit--which it turns out he did not. Should she have gotten more information before coming on here and slamming him? Yes. However, we've given her one day of sufficient grief, and I think that's more than enough punishment. This isn't about us taking back what we said, it's about forgiveness and not being mean to people--no matter what they've done. I still think Prince was completely right on Sunday, but it's time to let Divinity have some peace. No Candy 4 Me

First of all I'm going to disregard the Coward statement because that doesn't refer to me. I have no parts of that.
I give big props to Neptune for voicing her opinions for not getting an apology, and I give Brian props for coming back and making this thread. It tells you something when someone who went off on someone else can come back and say "Hey I thought about it and I apologize" So yes I'll give him props for that and more people need to be like that. I apologize to Divinity because of what I said was direct and cold and if it hurt her feelings that was not my intention. Do I take back what I said? no. I am not a person to want to hurt no ones feelings.

Neptunes--as usual, you are just flame baiting. I can forgive Divinity, because I believe she made a mistake without really grasping what she was doing when she posted here yesterday. You on the other hand post your constant beligerance with an evil and purposeful intent. Nep2nes said: I seem 2 remember making a thread about the problems I face in everday life as a female. Despite the fact that I have almost no respect for your behavior on this site, I didn't make one comment about you on that thread. (Go look it up.) I felt what you wrote was on that thread was pretty heartfelt--and if you showed that side of yourself more on this site I'd actually pay attention to you. Unfortunately, garbage like your posts on this thread is what we usually are given from you. The harsh treatment you received on that thread was not for your post, but was actually payback for all the thoughtless comments you've made to people on this site. If you want sympathy, take a look in the mirror first. Nep2nes said: It disgusts me at the level of insensitivity of people on here. There's some places that I just won't go in an argument--and making fun of a person's mental capacity is one of them. I didn't do it yesterday, but it bothered me that others did. I did however make other comments about her that weren't particularly nice. Although you could say in some ways I was justified, I don't think there's ever a good reason to hurt other people for ANY reason, and for that I am sorry. Nep2nes said: I wouldnt even accept this apology...but Im sure Divinity is gracious enough 2. I wouldnt be.

I appreciate you feeling a need to apologize for being so hard on Divinity yesterday Brian, but I don't think it's necessary.
She's going to think whatever she wants to think no matter what anyone here says. I don't begrudge her for that. No one comes to a fan forum to read garbage about the person they admire. It's not a good feeling. I don't worship Prince blindly. If Divinity;s story had the ring of truth to it, I would not have responded at all. My responses were only designed to offer a rational and logical perspective, not to be cruel and destroy her. In that respect, I feel no need to apologize, and don't think others who responded to her story in a constructive manner should either. Paul
