Prince in London?

Hi there

I am an avid Prince fan from London and have heard the purple one is due to do some gigs in October but as of yet cannot find any info. When he last played over here at the Hammersmith Apollo his three gigs sold out in a day; I was lucky enough to get tickets then but only because I chanced upon an article the day the tickets were released. If I don't get some info them I am worried I may not be so lucky this time so if anyone has any info then please let me know - much appreciated

Thank you!

Join the NPGMC to get the best tickets, but don't rely on them for news. You'll hear about the tour here first. He won't be playing Europe until next February. Apparently.

I seriously doubt any Prince live action in Europe til 2005. Candy Dulfer now has solo European dates in Nov / Dec....so it's going to be the new year + I hear he is bored of the musicology set and needs to re-work it for the next legs of the tour.

I bloody hope so. I've got a couple of bootlegs from the US leg and they're boring as fuck - Prince's back catalogue churned out like some cheesy Vegas revue. The only interesting thing is the acoustic set.

I will admit, that when this tour was announced, I saw it as a step back from the ONA tour.

The ONA tour which I saw in London was the tamest music I have heard from Prince. Yes it was still a fantastic night because of the charisma and stage presense of the man but seeing Prince roll through two hours of turgid lounge jazz was dissapointing. So I see this Musicology tour as a return to form for Prince, it marks a time when he has come out of his self imposed cocoon and decided to bring the funk back! If that means going through his past records then fair enough, the music Prince produced pre NPG was in my opinion his finest music by far and I for one would have loved to have seen him perform those songs live. I was hoping that if he did come to London again that he would perform some of those tunes alongside his new material but apparently he wont be going through those tunes after the Musicology tour. Either way its fantastic that he is now releasing music that is accessible, fun and funky and not getting lost up his purist little bottom smile ,(even if Musicology is a patchy album)

"Lounge jazz"?!!? We must have gone to different shows in 2002. They were funky as hell. I've got the bootlegs to prove it. And you should have been at the aftershow.

ok perhaps 'lounge jazz' was a bit harsh but it was certainly not funky as hell, there was a sprinkling of funk but not much, are you saying that you would prefer him to continue performing his music along the lines of ONA as opposed to Musicology?
i have no doubt that prince at an aftershow would be different to prince at a bigger venue but that wasn't what i was talking about; and few of us are lucky enough to go his aftershows sad

Why on earth do you want to attend concerts to hear the same songs played time and time again. ONA had the sound checks, the smaller venues, the b-sides. Musicology is more of a medley of tracks focusing on his Warner's. Hearing yet another live rendition of Raspberry Berret does not excite me. During ONA I thought Prince was getting intaimate with his fans which any fan would want. So yes I would rather another ONA style tour.

Hmmm ... you must have been watching from the back, half-stuck behind a pillar, people talking all the way through it. lol .

Frankly, yes, although not necessarily in the same genre. I like Prince when he's experimenting and innovating. "Musicology", as an album is a pastiche of his old styles and sounds like it was made by a focus group.

The Greatest Hits 4 the Last Time (Yeah Right!) 2004 tour - while no doubt thrilling to watch and experience - is a very dull listen. I've got a couple of bootlegs and they're seriously boring and predictable, which Prince shows never were before. Only the acoustic segments really hit home - and those, I'll have you know, were first tried out at the 2002 Celebration and, before a wider audience, on the third ONA London show.

Well, join the NPGMC and you might improve your chances. lol

I danced through nearly the whole gig and it i really enyoyed cool it but my point is that it seemed a shame to me that when i got to see him for the firtst time that he was going down the jazz road. See it twas the first time i have seen Prince so perhaps that puts my comments in perspective. When i was saying that i would prefer him to be performing music along the lines of musicology my point was that for far too long Prince has been in a kind of exile and thats its just fantastic to see him becoming an entertainer and perfomer again.
You guys in America if you chose to could see Prince over and over and over again, in England we are not so lucky. So whilst you may tire of his old tunes and welcome his experimentation and innovation (which I completely agree with you on) I wanted to see the Prince who got me into him 15 years ago
So when I say what I do its from a personal persepctive - its not a objective comment on his music smile

Aha! Now I completely understand where you're coming from KK, and you're more entitled than most to seeing Prince belting out his greatest hits.

As for Prince going down the "jazz" road. I hope he stays out of that neighbourhood altogether because his idea of "jazz" seems to be the four dull Kenny G offcuts he released last year as SNOOZE. No mas!

Like you, I'm English. Like you, I'm waiting for him to drag his tiny carcass over here and play some kickass shows. You should join the NPGMC. You get a shot at front row seats and an aftershow. Just don't go into the forums or you'll lose all faith in humanity.

I would really like to hear some news about Prince over here in the UK. The last time I saw him was on the Diamonds and Pearls Tour. I was going to see him t Blenhem place but it was cancelled and we were given bad seats at the show in Earls court insted. I was miles away, but the show was still great!! wink

I gather he is going to be touring here. Doe's anyone know when that would be? The Londoncalling advert looks a bit dodgy, I called them actually and they want you to pay a registation fee. Doe's anyone know if they are legitimate? confused

also - ive got the majority of the npgmusic club bootleg type albums (the slaughterhouse, chocolate invasion etc) and a couple of filimore live albums, but is there anywhere with a list of all the recent live albums avaliable lately?
