DC 2nd show 3/30 review

The 3/30 show at the WARNER THEATRE was high energy and a long show.Prince pulled out all the stops. The show started at 8:10pm and lasted to around 11:15pm .He was in a great mood through out the night. After reading all the other reports from concert goers in different cities
stating that this current tour shouldn't be missed I was very anxious to see for myself. The greatest show on earth is a cliche but this is the only description I can come up with.Prince directed the band with pin point precision and they stopped on a dime whenever he called for them to.The WARNER THEATRE has NO bad seats. The acoustics were great and the lighting changed with practically every song to set the mood. Here is the set list from the best of my recollection.

1.RAINBOW CHILDREN
2.MUSE
3.MELLOW
4.LOVE ROLLER COASTER(crowd loved this)
5.1+1+1 is 3(this song is should stay in his set for ever.Too funky)
6.OTHER SIDE OF THE PILLOW(I could have sworn I heard the GLAM SLAM BOOGIE riff in the beginning)
7.SING A SIMPLE SONG
8.DIDN'T CHA KNOW
9.PASS THE PEAS
10.LA LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU

special mention should be to the encore which featured THE JAM,IT'S ALRIGHT,ALPHABET STREET,BUSTIN LOOSE.JOY IN REPETITON was played in it's entirety.LOVE IS GOD chant from ANNA STASIA was sung.A fantastic medley on the keys.
1 thing I noticed was he played everything but the "blue angel" guitar.Symbol-telecaster and Ibanez(?)were used.An amazing night of music. If there are any more stops on this tour run do not walk to the ticket office.Almost forgot WHEN YOU WERE MINE was played.

NOOOO!!!! Not Joy in Repetition!!!! In it's ENTIRETY?!!! I've been wanting to hear him play that song for ages. That one song alone would've been worth the price of admission.

Just curious... was it the same version he played on the Emancipation Day concert?

In addition to those listed above, he played the following (not in order):

Adore
How Come U Don't Call Me
Raspberry Beret
Take Me With U
Sometimes it Snows
Santana Medley
Do Me Baby
Wanna Be Your Lover
Avalanche
Family Name

Tightest band I have ever seen him with. And definitely rates up there with Lovesexy tour on the awesome-factor. I left the theatre just stunned.

The soundcheck was worth every penny of my NPGMC membership. They played Extraordinary -- practicing for Sunday night. They had it down well. Renato took them through part of it several times. Prince sat in the audience for much of the soundcheck, but came back on stage and they played Beautiful Strange. I always liked that song but didn't think it was too special. But WOW --- it was incredible.

At one point in the soundcheck he asked us if we missed the hits. We of course said no. "Did you miss Kiss?" "NO, neither did I." "And I SURE didn't miss Little Red Corvette". Too funny.

Awesome experience. I regret not having bought tickets for Sunday's show too. The afterparty was at Club 2K9 -- but I headed home. Anyone know if there was a performance?

Yes, in its fuckin' entirety AND a lot better than the Emancipation concert version!!! He sang all of the verses!! It was pretty sweet. Larry was on bass for this and the rest of the encore!

>>Avalanche>>

which song is this, was it one of the instrumentals, or was it the song right be fore Family Name?

I agree.

Yup, and before yesterday, I didn't really like this song. The arrangement he did during the soundcheck was much better than the album version.

>>>The afterparty was at Club 2K9 -- but I headed home. Anyone know if there was a performance?>>>

I went and as of 1:45am there was nothing happening. I left. But I doubt it. The stage in that plance looked way too small.

Cool lovesupreme! Thank you for the report! That show sounds incredible.

I swung down by the Warner after work just to check out the vibe from outside. When I got there at 7p the line was all the way up the street! The crowd outside seemed really cool, adult, and mellow folks. Average age 35 to 40. The line started moving around qrtr after.

Warner's kept that marquee sign simple and plain too:

PRINCE
ONE NITE ALONE
MAR 29-31
(white lettering, all black background behind it)

I heard a couple of tourists as they walked by outside say "29th, 30th, 31st, am I missing something or is that 3 nites alone?" lol. It was really busy in that whole area last nite too because the ESPNZONE is right around the corner and peeps were packin in to watch the Maryland Terps game. Go Terps!

peace!

The only thing I can add is that I thought the lighting was much better on Sat night. The band was tight and I THOUGHT I'D LOSE MY MIND WHEN HE PLAY JIR!!!!!

Worth all my money. Wish I had stayed for the show tonight, but alas, I must work to support my habit.

COME TO NY BABY!!!!!

Wicker

I'm still trying 2 find out if there was an aftershow...my girl and I were pretty beat and figured Prince would not be performing at club 2k9, because he told the audience during the encore that we were all probably "going 2 church tomorrow"....as far as that nights set list, here goes:

Soundcheck:

In order: a snippet of the theme from the Beverly Hillbillies (also played during the encore), alphabet street, beautiful strange (which included the new line: "just cause your mama tought u 2 celebrate Christmas, don't mean you can't change), and extraordinary. Prince responded at one point to our hollers with "I'm gonna have to go put my new wig on!" to which I shouted "THE REDDISH BROWN ONE!"

Concert:

In order: TRC, Muse (a funkier version, more like the recent live version of "If i was your girlfriend"), Xenophobia, A case of U, Mellow, 1+1+1 is 3, Rollercoaster, Other side of the pillow, Strange Relationship, Pass the Peas, Sing a simple song, La La La means I love U, Didn't you know, When U were mine, Avalanche, Family name, Take me with u, Raspberry beret, and the Santana Melody.

Piano Medley:

Not in order: Adore, Nothing compares 2 U, I wanna b your lover, Do Me Baby, I love U but I don't trust you anymore, Sometimes it snows in April, and How come u don't call me anymore?

Encore:

Not in order: Joy in Repetition(off the chizzum!), The Jam, a snippet of The Beverly Hillbillies, It's Alright, Alphabet Street, the chant from Freaks on This Side, Bustin loose, and the chorus from Annastesia (Love is God, God is love).

Prince seemed to be in a good mood, and at one point joked to one of the dancers from the crowd that was on stage that she shouldn't be dancing like that cause "u know u got kids at home!" He also told us that the crowd was "showing its age" cause of the response elicited by "Rollercoaster". We were 9th row center and couldn't complain. The piano medley is the SHOWSTOPPER, and is worth the price of admission alone....

Hope this is useful....
