If Prince is so worried about other people covering his work and stealing his intellectual property, maybe HE should quit covering songs himself. I would really like to hear if he's shelling out royalties to Joni Mitchel, Santana, the Ohio Players and so forth.

If the above story is all true, I feel sorry for her. All he had to do is pick up the CD and set it aside, or not even acknowledge it. End of story. For him to go the extra step of humiliating a fan is completely inconsiderate.

Thats part of being a superstar Prince, get over it. We shell out plenty of money for these "experiences", go buy yourself some manners.

I bet Prince got a license to cover Joni; and you don't need a license to cover a song live. He asked her if she got a license to do it? She had not gotten one.

We don't shell out money to sit at the soundcheck IMHO. That's a privilege for which I am grateful. If you sat through the 2 hour and 55 minute show in the NPGMC section, you'd understand why the money we spent was well worth it for the show alone!

If Prince lets you into a soundcheck to observe his WORKING, leave him the f' alone! And if he rebuffs you, shut up and leave it at that!

Divinity,

I do understand how badly it must have hurt and embarassed you to wait so long for your "big moment" and then have your hero yelling at you.

But, at the same time, you really chose a bad method to communicate with Prince. As a longtime fan of many years, you should know how protective he is about his music.

There are many famous artists, including R. Kelly, Tupac, and others, who have asked for permission to use Prince's music and they have been told NO.

If you wanted to show Prince your appreciation for him, perhaps you could have brought him a small gift, like a Teddy Bear, and set it onstage for him. By putting your CD onstage, you were basically auditioning and trying to push your own agenda.

You had your feelings hurt by your hero, and I can definitely relate to that. But as others are pointing out, you brought it on yourself by doing something that was guaranteed to piss him off.

Prince did not humiliate this woman period. He politely asked her to get the cd, explaining that he could not take it. She continued to badger him, so he eventually gave it to his guard to give to her. He did not make a comment on her outfit he was talking about "Cats" the musical. When the crowd started to boo her he told us to be nice.

100% TRUE! As I also stated, the Cats comment was referring to if he wanted to cover Andrew Lloyd Webber live, would he have to wear a catsuit like they do in the musical.

Prince was VERY polite about the whole thing, this woman is letting her emotions distort reality. The audience, including me (I yelled for her to shut up) was much more impolite to her than Prince was.

This post--and the misleading title--is slanderous!

Would it have killed Prince to just hand the CD over to an assistant & just proceed with the soundcheck & not be rude? He's been so open & kind to fans so far on this tour & I don't understand this reaction he gave this girl. Does he really consider this THAT offensive?!

And why comment on her outfit? What does that have to do with anything? To everybody planning to go to an upcoming soundcheck: Don't wear anything a little out of the ordinary cuz Prince might make fun of you.

Very true. Prince is in NO position to make fun of the way people dress. Was her ass hangin' out of her pants?

For the last time, Prince NEVER said one word about her outfit. This woman was sitting in the back, and probably wasn't paying attention to his "cat-suit" comment. He was referring to the musical Cats and whether he'd have to wear a cat-suit if he wanted to cover songs from it.

Not to be rude, but what did you expect to gain from giving him this CDR?
You also admit to yelling, crying, whimpering and sniffling, no WONDER security was hovering over you, they probably thought you were crazy!
And to be rude, if you spent a little less money on "costumes" and purple hair dye your husband could've gotten a ticket to the show.
I know it's easy to believe Prince is our friend, but in truth he's a rock star. He gives as much as he wants to and I think he's pretty reasonable as far as his fans are concerned (celebrations, soundchecks and afterparties) but more of these types of "outbursts" and he may rethink all of that!
By the way are you including the term "disabled" in order to garner more sympathy?

if this IS true then.....

you guys have little to no compassion, even when prince is in the wrong, you still defend him! you should all bleat in time to new power generation.

disabled or not, prince doesnt have to be rude. these people are helping pay his wage and keep his whoringmyselffor1000ayear site successful. he doesnt have to be nice but at least civil.

the girl might have assumed too much about what sort of reception she might have gotten but damn, havent you people heard of manners? and yes, musicians always get people trying to harass them but if prince wanted no interaction he shouldnt be allowing fans into the soundchecks. much less chatting to them.

This person has GOT to be kidding. The whole incident was nothing like you said. The cat suit comment was that he was asking a J Records lawyer if it would be OK if he performed some of Andrew Lloyd Webber's music with a cat suit on without getting permission to do so. He was making a joke, and it had absolutely NOTHING to do with you or your outfit. He didn't want to take the CD because he didn't want the possibility of being sued cuz someone said he stole someone's idea. All you had to do was take back the CD and let it go. You seemed to have annoyed him a little, but when the rest of us started moaning about your bitching, he was nice and said, "Be nice, y'all!" How's that being rude?

His comment about Alicia Keys was that her record company didn't receive a license for her to re-do the song. He was cool with her, just not J Records! He was just describing the music industry and how he's been getting screwed!! You almost monopolized the damn soundcheck cryin' about one extra verse! Security was probably hoovering over you because it seemed you were pestering him! You took this WAY too seriously and the wrong way! You REALLY misunderstood him on this!!!

Please see Xenophobia's post above... it is not a good idea for musicians like Prince to accept people's CD. Next thing you know, he gets sued by someone claiming he jacked their song. It's best to not ever receive it.

Please people... read the posts by people who were actually there. Prince was polite to this lady; and her story is 50% false--especially this lie about him making fun of her in any way. He walked on stage, saw a CD sitting there, and asked what is this? He then asked the person to take it back. She got beligerant about it and wouldn't shut up, during which time he simply stood there and said nothing. Finally, the fans started moaning and he told us to be nice to her. He then started talking about Alicia Keys' cover--and he made no mention to this woman from this point on. She is delusional and full of her own self importance if she thinks Prince even noticed her from this point on.

OK...so there seems to be 2 very different sides to this story. And I'm hoping the one where Prince isn't a freaking jerk is the correct one!

But I still say he could've had an assistant take the CD away, throw it in the trash for him, & proceed to give everyone a great soundcheck!

this reminds me of the time StupidRican got told off by Prince in Vegas for accosting him in the middle of a personal converation, after which she stomped off to the bathrooms and told everyone who'd listen what a dick Prince was and how she'd never attend another show. HA!

THIS is atypical response from a person who mistakenly feels dissed and misleads
to gain some sort retribution. Prince
was NOT yelling and being rude etc. He
handled the situation best he could with such a nonsensical insistant "fam".

Plus she probably couldn't hear Prince
because her comment on the "catsuit"
was about Andrew Lloyd Webber
not really directed to her or Alicia Keys.

A shame Prince always gets these bad raps.

Have some class and come back and ADMIT you lied about your cat-suit comment! You couldn't hear what he was talking about with your persistent whining. He never commented for one moment about your outfit!

And the use of the word "disabled" in your post is slanderous! Ben--please edit this thread before a new urban myth is born!

This is probably why P won't talk 2 the press. look how out of hand and stilted this has gotten. Also, when I said "very true" earlier, I was also referring to the fact that he could've just as easily given it 2 his roadie or something 2 toss in the nearest trashcan. Guess I'll back off, I wasn't there. If he acts like a dick Wed. or Thur. I'll let everyone know.

Many years ago, I met Jam and Lewis at a Prince party. Long story short, I always keep a demo on me, and tried to give it to them in the bathroom. Jam said "We have too many problems w/ lawyers when ewe take tapes from people." We shook hands, and hung out at the set that night. Maybe a year or so later, they did an interview for musican magazine, and outlined how its supposed too go.

http://www.flytetyme.com/index2.html

Check the demo tips.

Oh yeah, All yall who know me, dont ever call me a victim again. lol

I was at the show last night. great show. One of the best concerts I've ever seen.

In response to this thread-

Get a life. Stoopid to leave an unauthorized CD on stage for Prince to conveniently find it. Lame.

And to all of you fanatics- great artist, great performer, great music- but get your head out of his ass and get a life. there are better things to do then obsess about an entertainer who doesn't give 2 shits about you- except that you buy his tickets and CDs.

OK lets get this clear.

There have been several CONSISTENT reports from others who were at the soundcheck, that refute this girls 'tale'.

He WAS NOT TAKING THE PISS OUT OF HER CAT SUIT. He was refering to the MUSICAL TITLED 'CATS' . Understand? Good.

Anyone who calls themselves disabled on a title of a thread has an AGENDA,

Anyone placing a CD on stage at a soundcheck has an AGENDA.

My BS detector was ringing before I'd even read the first paragraph.

By the time this show reaches Europe there won't be any soundchecks.

A big thanks goes out to all you compulsive, retarted saddo's who are ruining it for the rest of us.
