Someone once asked me "Where did Prince go wrong ?"

I have seen a lot of posts across various message boards debating where Prince went wrong, when he "lost" it, and on and on and on.

It seems a shame. I don't think he lost it. How could he ? He was born with it.

It's a sad pattern for life, and the fickle nature of people, that no matter how consistent the level of excellence, no matter how innovative and creative an artist is, they eventually fall from public favour.

It's just the way it is.

I have bought all Prince's material. I see him live when I can. I also love a ton of new artists and a ton of old.

No, I cannot stand "Rave", but I loved "Beautiful Strange" - Having said that there is a lot of Graffitti Bridge I don't like, and I think "Gold" is the most savagely under-promoted "commercial" CD ever.. without doubt.. with a few high profile videos and a lot of airplay of the right singles it could have outsold Purple Rain.

So, in answer to the post I saw on here saying "What should Prince do to win back the public", I would ask "Does he wanna ?"

Prince could lock himself in a studio and produce 12 3-minute pop gems, he could take them to a record company and he could let them promote the record. He could make some videos that poked fun at his old image (Just like P Diddy in the Bad Boy video) - There are a great many foolproof ways to win back the audience provided you have the talent to back your mouth.

And he has that.

But I really doubt he wants that kinda fame anymore.

Fandango out.

Why are you:

1. posting this in the Concerts forum?

2..not posting this in direct reply to one of the discussion threads to which you refer e.g.http://www.prince.org/msg...&tid=11317
ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.
