All that-----in ADDITION to getting PAID for performing?

Before now, I didn't know that the VENUES were responsible for catering to the artist's every whim food-wise. ....always thought people in the artist's crew took care o' all that.

Demanding is right! I always hate reading TSG stuff. I sometimes delude myself into thinking that, if Prince is going to pretend to be a Jehovah Witness, he would live like one. These demands would have Jesus rolling in his grave. If Jesus had a grave and if he felt like rolling.

Excessive. Prince sings about people starving. He knows what's going on/wrong with this world. He could give up a LITTLE bit of the excessive demands he makes and donate it to charity. Half that food gets thrown out anyway (if the homeless would eat it).

I am sure it does not get thrown out. The workers will eat the left overs and some will take the rest home.

And he aint no vegan with all that milk and cream cheese and butter

You're looking at the catering list. That's probably for the crew and others with backstage access, not Prince himself.

But, you're right that Prince is apparently no longer vegan, as his dressing room coffee and tea setup includes cream and honey. I've also read reports of him eating non-vegan meals in restaurants recently.

I'm not going to object to Prince's alleged return to an omnivorous diet. I tried to eat a vegetarian (and then vegan) diet for many months, and my health slowly went downhill. My weight dropped as low as 109 pounds, which is borderline dangerous for an adult male of my height. I did a lot of research in planning my meals, had the assistance of a vegan-friendly doctor, and kept track of what I was eating. On paper, my diet seemed just fine. I had all my nutrients covered, and was getting my RDA of protein, along with 2,000+ calories per day. But it wasn't working for me. I was clinically underweight, felt unhealthy, and looked unhealthy (pale and too thin).

At least I have the advantage of being able to eat massive quantities of food. (I've heard that Prince is a light eater who nibbles on his food.) If I made a serious effort to stuff myself full of calorie-dense vegan food, I could get my weight up to about 115. The problem was, I started getting sick from overeating. And eating was no longer enjoyable for me--it became a chore I dreaded.

I finally threw in the towel when Melissa, who generally doesn't eat meat, dairy, or eggs herself, realized what was happening to my health and asked me to stop.

Today, I eat a limited amound of animal products and am making an effort to buy ones that are produced in a humane manner. My weight is up to 130, which is considered very healthy for an adult male of my height. I feel and look much better, and other people have noticed it. My health is closely monitored, as I'm currently in a clinical research study, and I appear to be in excellent health.

It's admirable to shun animal products for ethical reasons. But I think that vegetarian/vegan diets are unsuitable from a health standpoint for some people (see http://www.beyondveg.com for more on this), and I don't believe that I'm ethically obligated to sacrifice my own health for the sake of others.

In light of my own experience, and given that Prince is currently doing a physically-demanding tour (read: increased calorie and protein needs) at age 46, I don't think he deserves to be condemned for giving up on veganism. In fact, looking at the rest of his dressing room food requests (e.g., fruit, salsa, hummus, and pita bread), all of which are vegan, I wouldn't be surprised if he's trying to balance concern for animals with his own health. That should be praised. Unfortunately, the "all or nothing" approach of most vegetarian/vegan activists alienates people who do that. neutral

I would point out that Prince (and his band, for that matter) probably expects to have family/friends/guests in his dressing room before and after many shows, and is probably trying to have enough munchies on hand to take care of them as well. It might also explain why he would want a coffee setup with cream even though he has been reported to be vegan and I've never heard of him drinking coffee.

Not that this is of any damn importance. I'm just sayin'. wink

I get the impression that Prince doesn't allow too many folks in his personal dressing room, but I'm sure that at least his wife has access, and maybe he does some interviews in there. So perhaps you're right... maybe he just wants to be a good host and not run out of food.

As for the coffee thing... it does seem that he's a tea drinker. hmmm In any event, you know my feelings about coffee, and there will be no coffee in my tour rider should I ever become a performing musician. evillol

Prince isn't the only one. I seem to recall something in the liner notes of Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits about B-12 injections before their concerts.

Also, just the other day I drank one of those energy drinks (Hansen's Energy, to be specific), and I noticed that it was fortified with B-12.

Nope. I worked for an organization that booked a band, and the show was behind our building (i.e., we were the venue). Their rider called for 24 bottles of Snapple in specific flavors, and yours truly was sent to the grocery store to satisfy their request.

I'll prefer Coke when it is, to quote their own former slogan, "The Real Thing." And by that, I mean Coke sweetened with cane sugar, not corn syrup. There's a local coffeehouse that sells such Coke, which is imported from Mexico.

However, I'm usually stuck with the domestic corn-syrup sodas, and among those, Pepsi is clearly superior. pepsi wink

I agree a 120%. No one should scrafice their health. Prince looked terrible during the Hit/Run tours. He looks much better now. The best thing to do is limit the in-take of red meat not remove it from your diet completly.
