I posted this on another thread--since nobody else has reported anything:

The show was from 12:15 to 2:45. It was basically the same set-list as has been posted before. The show began with Maceo Parker walking down the aisle from the back of the theatre and walking onto the stage. The curtain then went up and they started jamming on Rainbow Children. This song is great live. The guitar solo at the end killed.

They then went into Muse 2 the Pharaoh, which is much better live than on TRC.

Xenophobia followed for about 10 minutes. There was a video in the background that I assume is the actual video to Xenophobia. It's actually a great video, and would probably get some play on VH1 if he released it. It's basically a bunch of fast-paced images that fit in well with the music. It kind of reminds me of the video for NIN Closer with the rapid and random imagery.

These first three songs took about 30 minutes total. I felt like I was watching Miles Davis back in the '70s when Miles went electronic. It was a great 30 minutes of jamming. Prince was on guitar during most of this time. I remember thinking that this could be as good a band as he's ever had... I mean that. With Maceo included, this band is equal to the '95 NPG IMHO. Blackwell lived up to the hype.

I believe the rest was as follows, i.e., the same as in previous shows:

A Case Of You

Mellow--(he changed the lyrics about Macy and Common being at the Mellow afterparty to Larry and Tina being there)

1+1+1=3 beat/Rollercoaster lyrics (this is a jam!)

The Other Side Of The Pillow--another highlight for me

Strange Relationship--he began this with a speech asking how the radio was in DC. He then talked about the same songs being played over and over and how he's given up on radio and that we were now listening to WNPG.

Sing A Simple Song--he mentioned Larry G being in the house

La La La (Means I Love You)

Didn't 'cha Know w/ Rhonda

When You Were Mine

Avalanche (began with the Abe Lincoln quote on the screen)

Family Name--same as we've heard, he renames some people.

Take Me With U

Raspberry Beret--much longer version than what he played in recent years

Santana Medley

The piano medley contained Do U Lie (very brief instumental) Adore (about a full verse), Diamonds and Pearls (very brief), The Beautiful Ones, Joy in Repitition (very brief), How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore, Condition of the Heart, Nothing Compares to U, Girls & Boys, Sometimes it Snows in April (the highlight of the show for me--very beautiful--similar to the version on the Park Vol. II). I don't recall the exact order of these.

Anna Stesia--he gave a speech thanking us for sticking with him and alluded to the past year being very difficult. He thanked Larry and Tina for helping him though it and said that they help him read the original and correct scriptures, etc.

I might have missed a few snippets in this report, but that's my quick recollection.

I love that part! I always play it again and again, that segue is off the hook!

Cool.

Xenophobia followed for about 10 minutes.

I'm curious to hear this.

I felt like I was watching Miles Davis back in the '70s when Miles went electronic.

Wow, that is saying alot right there!

Incredible.

I shoulda been there to answer that one for him! lol.

He then talked about the same songs being played over and over and how he's given up on radio and that we were now listening to WNPG.

I hear that!

Avalanche (began with the Abe Lincoln quote on the screen)

What did this sound like?

I might have missed a few snippets in this report, but that's my quick recollection.

Thank you! How was his energy level? How was the crowd's energy level? Up? Layed back? chilled out? mellow? What did they have for sale in the lobby? What were prices like? Could u tell it was def sold out even for a midnite show?

Shane they weren't scheduled to do one last nite because there was a comedy show that ran right before their's did.

But it seems they had to warm up somewhere-maybe in the tour bus or hotel?

peace!

Actually, they did do a soundcheck of sorts. Once the stage was set and they began allowing people to take their seat, the NPG started playing behind the curtain. If you managed to be among the first to sit down, you were treated to a good half hours worth of moody grooves.

I have seen Prince several times...in both large and small settings....but what I saw last night in DC blew me away. Like wine...the purple one only gets better as he ages... and to have Maceo behind him my god...that was my easter service 2 days early...Prince sang the blues...brought tha funk...played some serious jazz...did a lounge singer bit on the piano...and ROCKED..HARD!!! all I can say is AMAZING...so glad I made it.felt like I finally got a chance to see Hendrix...Bitches Brew era Miles Davis...John Coletrane..Santana.and early 70's James Brown all in one show... ANYONE bitching and moaning about the ticket prices... SHUT YOUR MOUTH...that was worth every penny...hell I woulda paid 3 times that and felt I got a good deal. ANY DOUBTERS OR NON-BELIEVERS THAT PRINCE IS THE MOST VERSITILE AND AMAZING MUSCIAN TO WALK THE EARTH IN 2002 GO SEE THIS SHOW....MY ONLY COMPLAINT...I DON''T HAVE TICKETS FOR TONIGHT AND SUNDAY.
HE'S BACK AND STILL BLOWIN' MINDS AFTER 20 SOMETHING YEARS!!!

There was a soundcheck from about 4:30-5:30, but it was not open to the public. We tried to get in, but Billy Sparks said no dice.

I heard them playing "Six" at one point.

The soundcheck at 11:30 was just literally getting instruments plugged in, etc.

Actually they did do a sound check apx. for 1 hour. I heard them while they were waiting to issue tickets. Billy came out and said that they couldn't let any1 in because they only had about an hour. They Poundstone was gonna come in and set up her show.

I came tell you how it felt to know that he was so close and yet so far. I can't even remember what he played, mostly instrumental. Checking piano, horns etc.

Asked this elsewhere, but:

What's been the response/reaction 2 the shows from the casual and curious folks in the balcony, who obviously showed up to hear LRC and Purple Rain? Has anybody been able to guage this?
