Why didn't he play "The One" in Seattle? Dayum. I'm still upset about that. Or "The Beautiful Ones"? He left that out, too! I feel shortchanged!

Oh, well, can't win 'em all. Just glad I got to see the guy after all these years.

Prince's live show is (arguably) the best it's ever been. As far as his albums, I have a theory-
If Prince would have released "musicology" in 1987 and "Sign O' the Times" was released now, "musicology" would be considered his masterpiece and would be as beloved as "Sign O' the Times".

No, I disagree 100% with you. And I liked the reporter's observations. But - as far as history tells us - all creative "boundary-breaking" stuff is done by artists in their 20s/30s. Prince is no exception to the rule, while still giving us some good music on the way.

I totally disagree that Prince believes his best work was 79-88. Why would he? Surely he has the kind of ego that would make him think his last song was his best? And weren't both EMANCIPATION and RAVE called "the album he was born to make". [they were most definately NOT IMO!] A phrase, I beleive, would have originated from Paisley Park.

I still believe Prince wishes to consign certain older tracks to history. Which are probably 80s tracks.

There are probably several reasons for the chocie of tracks:
7 out 9 are from PURPLE RAIN [20th anniversary] that's approximately one quarter of the setlist. And he only doesn't play DARLING NIKKI for obviousl reasons!

Of his hits in the 90s well...

I believe he plays 7, CREAM, THE Q OF U, SHHH and THE ONE.

Several other 90s hits he cannot play because of content: SEXY M.F., GETT OFF. MY NAME IS PRINCE. Several other non-singles from this era, that might have been included, cannot be played for the same reason.

He has stated he won't play DIAMONDS AND PEARLS without Rosie Gaines.

He rarely plays THE MORNING PAPERS, MONEY DON'T MATTER, DINNER WITH DELORES.

And won't play EMANCIPATION tracks which are in the main about Mayte [or remind him of that period in his life].

So does that only leave THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL??? No there's GOLD and possibly DOLPHIN and I HATE U that are missing. Is that anything to do with the fact TGE is not available as a back-catalogue???

There is NO WAY that Musicology would be considered his masterpiece, if SOTT was released today. It does not matter WHEN SOTT was released, it CLEARLY showcases him as his finest hour, dispelling claims that he would not be able to reach a peak any higher than he did when working w/ Lisa & Wendy. Now, granted, Musicology would have fared BETTER critically if released BEFORE SOTT I think, but SOTT would have knocked it out of the box even if released after it.

.

my friend made a good point about a month ago. if it wasn't prince, would you even listen to 'musicology'? i don't think so...
Yes, b/c I liked 'Call My Name' before I even knew it was Prince. My hairdresser told me that she wanted to buy Musicology because of the "song where he says I can't stop writing songs about you". THAT'S when I realized that was off the new CD, because I did not have a copy yet. I hear songs, that I THINK would make a great Prince song, before even realizing that it's him! I reacted to SOTT the same way the first time I heard it on the radio, in 87.

And u forgot, The One, nothing compares 2 u, 7, and cream among others.

He sang Cream in D.C., and it was delicious! 7 too. He actually chastised the crowd for not knowing all the words, and I admit, I had to think for a minute before singing along. Those were the only 2 I remember the audience struggling to remember, when he did his medley.

He's said he's making $500,000 from this tour. Where did you get 100 million from?

prince enjoys being #1 at the bank too much not to play his "moneymakers" in concert anymore.

let's see... gross $100M, or play smaller venues where only the longtime fans will appreciate the unreleased/new music... this is prince we're talking about here... c'mon lol...
I thought that $500,000 was the amount grossed per show. The $100 million is what the tour will gross by it's end. (just providin info 4 ya.)
