Salt Lake Gears up (Part 2) Here's the story from the Deseret News.
A link: http://deseretnews.com/dn...01,00.html And the story: By Pat Reavy Deseret Morning News It's been quite a year for Prince. Prince will make a rare stop in the Beehive State on Tuesday. The funk-master icon has reconnected with his fans and put himself back on top of the music world. He began the year with a rare and memorable Grammy Awards performance with BeyoncŽ. Then he was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in March and brought down the house with a powerful, show-opening mini-set. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of his landmark album "Purple Rain." On top of all that, Prince and his band, the New Power Generation, are about to wrap up one of the most talked-about tours of the summer. His Musicology tour will stop at USANA Amphitheatre Tuesday. It's the last appearance of his tour in a state that doesn't begin with the letters "C-A-L." While the concert industry has taken a hit this summer with major acts canceling left and right, Prince's tour has been an overwhelming success because he's giving fans what they want . . . the hits. Taking a page out of Madonna's summer tour, the Purple One is stacking his two-hour set with all the well-known singles such as "Little Red Corvette," "Let's Go Crazy" and "Kiss," something he has avoided in past years. In recent interviews, the 46-year-old Prince said he planned to "retire" many of those songs after this tour, so this will probably be the last chance for many fans to hear them. For Utah fans, it may also be the first time they've heard many of those songs live, since Prince doesn't have a long history of stopping in the Beehive State. In addition to a good dose of the old, fans going to the show Tuesday will take home some of Prince's new material, literally. All concertgoers will receive a copy of Prince's latest CD "Musicology" when they attend the show. By all accounts, Prince is enjoying himself on his current tour, and his fans, many of whom were questioning his antics in recent years, are responding by selling out venues across the nation. Clearly this isn't the same man who wrote "Slave" on his face while battling his record company. Some speculate that his becoming a Jehovah's Witness a few years ago contributed to his new calm demeanor. In addition to his stiletto boots and that unpronounceable symbol by which he referred to himself for awhile, the artist formerly known as the "Artist Formerly Known as Prince" was also known for being, shall we say, sexually provocative. But in addition to being re-energized onstage, Prince has apparently toned it down a bit. He has not been performing some of his racier songs and claims he no longer swears. Could it be? A kinder, gentler, family-friendlier Prince? That may be taking it too far, although one reviewer earlier in the tour described Prince as having a PG-13 show. The main focus of this tour, however, is the music. And based on the reviews to this point, Prince is out to please. If you go. . .
