Saturday Night Live in Washington, D.C.

You know, it's funny. We here know that Prince is the baddest entertainer alive. Some of us take it for granted that Prince will always give us our money's worth.

Then there was Saturday night's show at the MCI Center.

For all the problems I had once I stepped off the Greyhound from NYC (too long to get into), it was all forgotten by 11:05pm. Prince was "otherworld" last night. It didn't even matter that I was sittin in sec. 421 row L. He said that it might be the last event the MCI Center would ever hold, because he was going to tear it down, and damnit if he didn't come close to doing just that. I attended opening night at MSG and at Continental Airlines Arena. Last night was my most satisfying Musicology show.

The best part for me was when the band stopped during D.M.S.R. Seeing previous show, I thought the band was going to hit "Pass The Peas" (That came a bit later). Damnit if they didn't hit "Bustin' Loose" by Chuck Brown and The Soul Searchers. The crowd at MCI lost their collective minds. Chuck is the Godfather of Go-Go Music. Go-Go music is the signature music of Washington D.C. I am a HUGE Chuck Brown and Go-Go music fan, and for Prince to pay respect to Chuck and to Go-Go music is almost indescribable. Later on in the show, John Blackwell paid Go-Go music more tribute by pounding out a fierce drum solo complete with Go-Go's signature roto-tom rolls. I almost forgot I was at a Prince show. It seemed like I was at a Trouble Funk show from 1983. Michael B., you have been replaced as my favorite NPG drummer.

Being that this was D.C., and they love ballads in D.C., Prince made sure we got what we wanted. Acoustic "Sweet Thing" and "Adore", and a four-song encore with "Call My Name", "The Beatuiful Ones", "Nothing Compares 2 U", and that purple song. wink

It was just a beautiful vibe in the house. Being that it was a Saturday night, people came out looking their best. Dresses and skirts for the ladies, and suits for the men. I thought it was the Player's Ball" for a second. And the house rocked from the bottom to the top.
One of the ladies who sat in front of me said that this was the best show she's seen on the tour...and she says she's seen a few. I can't argue with that. It's too bad that I'll likely not be able to attend any more shows on this tour. Then again, that might be a good thing, because for me personally, he can't top last night. I got more than my money's worth, that's for damn sure.

Set list (as much as I can remember, since I just got back into NYC about 2 hours ago, and home about 1 hour ago...and I need sleep)

you know the one thing i surprised at on thursday was that he DIDN"T do a go-go tribute...i remember back on TJOTY year tour kirk j did one..and when NPS came out they did one with Doug E. Fresh...when the presale came out i was happy to get my thursday tickets...but knew i couldn't afford 2 other shows as well...it seems you guys got a little different set than ours..but we got a few things you didn't..so it's all good. I woulda been real salty if you said Sheila and Morris showed up..now that woulda been bad!
glad u had a good time
you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

Last night show was incredibly amazing. Prince tore the roof off. DC belonged to Prince last night. I don't know where to begin. I'm so tired and so sore. My feet, legs, and throat are so sore. I screamed,I sang, I danced, I stood up the entire show with heels on mind you. Lost my voice, and would do it all again in a second, but only for Prince. He was defintely a KING last night. bow I will give more about the show, but just need to get some sleep. Got home very late last night and got up bright and early this Sunday morning. I need some sleep... and some throat drops. biggrin

If he had done that, I really would have lost my mind. A snippet of "Work The Walls" would have been tight.

You know...thinking about it, a Prince performance is like a Go-Go. Non-stop. High energy. Just without the repetitiveness.

You are correct.

I can't get this show out of my mind. I heard there's a recording of it. I don't know if that's true or not. I'd kill for it!

I'm still hoarse, but it was worth it. I agree with your review. Prince was "Off the Hook" Saturday. Much better than Friday night. A certain synergy seemed to be missing on Friday, but he more than made up for it on Saturday. Have the same post Prince blues, but can live on these memories for a lifetime.

Trouble had a great sound. The keyboard on "Drop the Bomb" (the pulse and then that GREAT line that's repeated) is unforgettable.

Drop The Bomb is my favorite jam by Trouble. My favorite LP. Read the title of this thread. Awesome live LP.
