AFAIK nobody. used for trades, and sometimes people just get it for free. wink

Prince could be making a killing by selling soundboard concert CDs via NPGMC, but nooooo... Funny, huh, how a MAJOR LABEL band like Pearl Jam can do this, for a very nice price : I think the price for fan club members was $ 12 per 2-CD initially, and even the copies that were released to stores -- long after the fans had gotten their copies -- were relatively cheap. Cost per release for Pearl Jam (mixing, mastering,...): approx $100 (printing cost of each individual CD not included of course, that one's approx $ 1).

If you wanna blame anyone, blame the ONLY person to blame: PRINCE.

man that was fast....

yeah, i have no idea why prince doesn't release live show or better yet aftershow recordings now that he's 'free'...
he'd make a killing, and we fan's would be happy, and it would take a big bite right out of the bootleggers market which is what he wants to do right?

what doesn't make sense about this? I can't figure it out...he should've been doing this a long time ago. Who knows maybe he'll start releasing shows on cd via NPG thi year, maybe we'll get one of the Aftershows on disc...now THAT might make up for skipping my town on the tour.

I said might...

so, in the mean time, since it looks like the Richmond stop of the tour is now OFF...where would one look for this release of the Chicago show? smile

For the record: don't bother sending me emails or Orgnotes. Especially not ones in ALL CAPS yelling "I must have this CD".

The two CDs are in news://alt.binaries.multimedia.prince right now as lo-fi 56k MP3s.

Dunno what I'm talking about? http://EasyNews.com/trial/ will help you...

I sat next to a guy at this concert who offered me a CD copy of that night's show if I would give him some NPGMC monthly files. He gave me his e-mail address and then never came through. Honestly, I saw him near the soundboard once so I think he was for real.

I attended this show and was just floored. I can't get to the newsgroup that Bart refers to so if someone can share the sound file with me I would be thrilled.

I believe one reason for Prince not releasing live CDs could be that everyone is saying/yelling he should do it.

Maybe he's just like "I do the f*ck I wanna do!"

Could it be a legal issue with WB since he performs songs from his catolog?

no, for he own his actual songs... just not his masters. This is why any other release of him doing the same exact song is his own...

Perhaps it has to do with Prince's perfectionism. Remember back in 1997 when he released a two-track cassette containing "Jam of the Year" and "Face Down" from the New York L4OA show? A lot of folks asked why he didn't just release the entire show. Well, the story I heard was that there were some mistakes during the performance, and he didn't want to release those parts of the show.
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position.

Why doesn't he play "She Loves Me for Me?" That song was on the internet for free and many fans are probably familiar with it.

Jesus Bart, lighten up. If it's a soundboard recording, mention that in your post. Most of us don't have the time to filter through the 50+ audience recordings that get taped each year, so why not post the relevant info right away.

Yes. So what? At least they had a tour schedule which allowed fans to PLAN AHEAD, and fans knew that these CDs would be available to them after the tour, so they didn't have to bother with bootleggers etc.

That's TWO things that don't apply to Prince.

Prince won't release a *real* live CD because he is a chicken!

Even when he released the JOTY cassette single - the songs were "touched up" in the studio. Similarly, there was major editing done to the Rave2000 video/audio. For the most extreme example, look at the SoTT movie in which many of the "live" scenes were completely re-filmed on the Paisley Park soundstage.

I guess he's just a perfectionist. Probably means he will never allow legal taping of his shows either. If I could attend one of the soundchecks, this would be my #1 question for him. Though, I'm sure he'd respond with some cryptic answer like "that's under consideration" and that would be the end of it. Just like after the 1st year's Celebration when he posted on the website that he was seaking the other performers' permissions to release it and we never heard another thing. For that matter, what ever happened to the "aftershows on the internet" comment in "The Northside" track?

Oh well, God bless those who sneak their recorders in so that the rest of us can enjoy permanent records of these awesome shows! (especially when he skips Richmond on the tour and leaves me hangin', doggonit!)

If a band as big as U2 all but invites its audience to tape their shows, why can't Prince? You know, there will never be the perfect live performance. That's the point of it being live. That's the point of live broadcasts of E.R., SNL & an entire strip of road in NYC known as Broadway - the chance that something on stage can go completely, magically, gloriously wrong.
