Prince gave me a Watchtower I only half-believed the other reports until I saw Prince emerge from under the stage with a stack of pamphlets during the Aug 10 Atl concert. I always thought I would be the one to lecture him about appropriate time-and-place, blah blah blah, but of course I couldn't do that.
So does anyone know that this fulfills his door-to-door requirement? Do the JWs care how he distributes his pamphlets as long as he distributes them? The message you're about to hear is not meant for transmission

I agree that it is weird for him to distribute this material at a concert. I definitely won't be reading mine...I gave it away. The message you're about to hear is not meant for transmission

Could u imagine the advert I'm fine...how are you? I'm not entirely opposed to selling Prince stuff on ebay, but I acquire things in order to collect them, not for financial gain. However, I can't imagine anyone selling the watchtower on ebay. There was nothing on it to differentiate it from any other watchtower. Why would it have added value? Because P touched it? I got a guitar pick after the concert and this guy near me was like, "I can probably get 10 bucks for this on ebay." I told him I got mine to keep, not to sell and walked away. I know this is a capitalist society, but you have to draw the line somewhere folks. The message you're about to hear is not meant for transmission

leave it to prince to be the only jehovah's witness to make YOU come to HIM to get info
honestly, i don't think there is anything wrong with disussing your beliefs "on the job". that's why i never really disliked his preaching during previous concerts. the problem with this whole thing is that he isn't "discussing" anything, he's just handing a fan a magazine. most fans will not care what the magazine is but only that he gave it to them. does this accomplish anything? if i were a devout follower of a religion i would want people to read about it because of what the religion or philosophy entails, not because i am adored. but that's just my and who knows? maybe some people actually will read it...though the general consensus seems to be to treat the mag as a souviner or trash.

[b]I think the only way you would see that on Ebay is if it is signed.....anyone heard of him signing his before he gives them out, and are they purple? - I am not kidding, some fool is gonna is going to try and put it on ebay, I would think it would have to be different....I was at the show unti, what I thought was the very last minute of seeing him, but I didnt catch that. I am kinda shocked that he is a JW, he has always professed his spirituality, but I guess if this is how he feels closer to God, alrighty then. I just wonder what I am gonna do the next time they knock on my door....its almost time [This message was edited Thu Aug 12 18:52:59 2004 by purplelust] - Do unto others as they do unto you

What a cult leader...Im insulted...come on now...if we have to respect his beliefs why must he disregard others? I love the man with all my musical adoration but this really puts the damn cherry on my pie. &

Well, this is interesting. But hey, we're encouraged to go where the people are . JWs do more than just the door to door work. We witness informally as well. That would include grocery stores, on the street, etc. Folks who are physically unable to go door to door for whatever reason make phone calls or do letter writing. It's up to each JW to kind of assess the situation and decide if it's an appropriate time and place. I guess P considers what he's doing to be informal witnessing.
Cherrie, I wouldn't go as far as to call him a cult leader, unless you're referring to the more rabid part of his fan base.

I agree with your above statement yet he is not talking about what is in the magazines/pamphlets, he is just passing them out. That is the bit I find rather strange, just passing out magazines/pamphlets certainly is not a common occurrence in the UK, normally a small chat proceeds afterwards. As i said above: Good luck 2 the guy, he's willing to do the work his way, u got to admire him for trying. . [This message was edited Fri Aug 13 9:24:16 2004 by katt]

Can't believe no-one made the connection with the CD-giveaways...
Good idea for the next tour, free CD, free pamphletaria and a prize lottery to win a lecture from the boys.

Giving out Watchtowers at concerts might be an excellent way to reach a larger audience but Prince might need refine or even ditch this method for safety reasons. After doing this little skit on stage where he sits down to read a "magazine" (we had no idea what it was at the time, but d'oh, what else could it have been) he flings it out over the crowd. Of course, the expected mini riot ensues, complete with over turned chairs and security guards. I saw this at the ATL show and I guess this to be the first and last time I get to see brawl over a Watchtower

Hey, isn't he reading the coverstory in the Rolling Stone on stage? Should be visible on the big screens. It also doesn't make sense to throw the Watchtower in that segment, 'cause it's ultimately about him.

It also doesn't make sense to throw the Watchtower in that segment, 'cause it's ultimately about him. In Atlanta, he threw the Rolling Stone into the audience, but while the band was jamming onstage, he came out and handed out Watchtowers to people on the front row -- No Riot ensued.
