Prince tells off Guitarist on stage

Durring last nights Prince concert in Gr. Rapids someting happened between Prince and his Guitarist that caused Prince to Bump into him and CLEARLY AND FIRMLY ask "YOU GOTTA PROBLEM" this happened as Candy was doing a little solo right infront of me! I had front row near the horn section, did anyone else see this! The rest of the night his guitarist was at the far side almost below Reneto. I have heard of Princes temper but to do that in front of a paying crowd is uncalled for....wait til' your below stage and bitch all you want. I have a staff that works for me and If I have issues I would never call them out infront of paying customers.....ITS JUST NOT PROFESSIONAL!.....and as for the performance I think it is obvious they are all ready for a break from this very long tour!

omfg boxed Prince seemed perfectly okay the night before when I saw him perform in Auburn Hills. Maybe he and the band were having an off night. shrug
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I hope that's not the case.Mike is a great guy! I have been to several concerts and at all of them Mike spends the majority of his time by Renato. He even has a little stool he sits on. So, hopefully, it wasn't anything more than a one-comment tizzy from P.

I wish i knew why Prince is pushing himself and The Band so hard. When the tour schedule was posted it looked so extreme to me. Night after night, week after week. Of course people are going to loose their temper when they are stressed out and/or tired. With this relentless schedule, Prince is bound to loose his cool here and there.

What i don't understand is what is it that is driving him to push himself into this frame of mind and attitude? Is it the money? If we should loose the world to save our souls, that doesn't make much sense. Prince surely must have enough to get by and could stretch out his engagements and still make ends meet. Or is it responsibilities that he must cover for others? At a half mil a nite, one would think that would be enough to pay everyone plus have a little extra.

Or is it our fault for demanding his presence, his music, his love. We always want more & more of Prince. guitar

are you sure this wasn't part of some kind of act? i've seen the show a bunch of times and there have been different little "skits" and jokes at each date. sometime prince ets a dig on a bandmember or there are little exchanges amongst the horn section (like greg boyer knocking on candy's head during "knock on wood"). maybe p was just teasing mike for bumping into him?

those shows are so incredibly polished, i can't see prince throwing a diva fit during one of those gigs. i bet it was just part of the little schtick he does w/ mike scott...the man has been playing w/ prince for far too long for that kind of thing to be serious.

he did the same kind of thing @ the joe louis show w/mike. he had a couple up there and mike goes into " tightn' up" one of my favorite songs, anyway he tells the crowd that he told mike that it was casual and here he is lookin' like a pimp! He says " i Can't stand Pimps but i sho' do like that step and then proceeded to lead everyone including the audience to do the step. The man was sooo cool and i liked the fact that i saw just about a completely different show than the one in Cleveland. He was lookin' so fresh and so clean

I am SURE it was NOT part of the act, the stage lights were on Candy and Prince was Hollering it in Mikes ear. I have seen this tour 4 times and can tell when he is joking. I am sure it was not ment to be seen by the fans, but we up front could hear him.

I agree, did he forget that they are all 40+ years old. I really think its the billboard numbers driving him. I am sure it was just the end of a VERY LONG WEEK-MONTH_YEAR and he snapped.

I saw it. It looked pretty serious. He walked away like he was pissed for a second, then got back into the song.

shocked Whatcha got against Maceo? He's a very nice man and, unlike LG, seems to know his place in the band...plus, he's a fine musician.
no no no! on the Maceo hatin'...
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

from where i was, i saw how the whole thing played out.....

prince was changing things a little in the show - he was having the band continue playing the current groove while he "improvised" and played with the crowd. (I've seen enough of these shows to know what follows what). it was right around when Mike Scott would come out and prince would do the whole bit about mikes pimp suit and how prince 'doesn't like pimps, but he likes the dance move mike was doin. Mike was going over to take his spot not picking up that prince wasn't doing the standard routine tonight... Prince told him to go back - It seemed like Mike didn't pick this up and prince pushed him - mike came back again and prince pushed him a little harder - so mike went back to his normal spot.... Then shortly afterwards, Mike headed over to the area between Chance and John Blackwell.. Candy went on with her solo and Prince went up to Mike and said "You got a problem?" - Mike looked at him and said "what" prince repeated himself then got closer and made another coment (i couldn't read lips on this one) then Mike kinda shrugged his shoulders, Prince came in to make another comment and Mike stopped him and said "I got ya"
- was it an act - I don't know....
but when it was time for Mike and prince to do the whole pimp suit act, Mike was very aprhensive to take his place on that side of the stage.... like he wasn't sure if prince was going from his impromptu stuff and back into the normal show - Prince had to coax Mike out of his normal spot to get him to take his proper place to do the little pimpin skit.

The Grand rapids show was definitly different.... It seemed in the begining of the show that he was calling changes and stops and starts on the fly. (The band has to be bored with the normal show by now) - He even got on the Chances Keyboards for a little bit.... Chance looked like he didn't know what to do so he stood there right next to Prince, Prince shook his hand out towards Chance kinda like saying stand back and Chance kinda shrugged and stepped away from his gear until prince finished playing.
and also,Purple rain was probably the best I've ever heard him perform (especially the guitar solo where he led into the final chorus - it was perfect)... and candy played really well on her solo in call my name.

thats my take on it, It did seem like he was not happy with Mike, but he got over it pretty quick.

Artists are temperamental, emotional creatures. Put "perfectionist" on top of that & you have a person that will unleash on yo ass if he/she feels the need boxed

If Mike wasn't paying attention & fuckin' up, OH WELL... They all know by now you gotta watch yo ass when you're on stage w/ P - he don't take no shit! Pay attention, listen up, roll w/ the changes & don't say shit! lol

Doesn't surprise me - on the Rave2000 DVD under Bonus Grooves (George Clinton @ 1:56) Prince kinda pulls Mike's sleeve, I think he tells him to "back up" & "watch me" or something like that. It wasn't angry but it was definitely corrective. Maybe P forgets that people are watching him @ ALL TIMES, no matter who's soloing. smile
