First Time Prince Has Been Booed Since....

In reading the threads about Prince's Chicago House of Blues performance, I realized that from the reports, it's the first time that Prince has been booed by a U.S. audience since he opened for the Rolling Stones.

He was booed at a 90s Rock and Rio show, but that was in Brazil. The Chicago show booing is shocking because:

1.) It was a U.S. audience
2.) It wasn't situation where he was the opening act
3.) It was in the Midwest, which is supposed to be Prince's home ground
4.) It was an audience where only NPGMC members could buy tickets.

So, what does this indicate? In my opinion, I think it shows how things have changed since the club membership was opened up so that many more people joined, not just hardcore Prince fans.

this is incorrect, my friend. in actuality, the club tickets were not selling. that is why they increased the limit per order from 1 to 2. the majority of people in attendance were non music club peeps. this is why i said (in another thread) prince needs to be responsible enough to know what kind of audience he is playing to. this is not paisley park, its chicago. most of the ticketholders for that night's show purchased their tickets from ticketmaster and house of blues.

i know prince is an artist and all but he is also a paid entertainer. a responsible and considerate appreciative entertainer gives the audience what it wants. if p had done that, he probably would not have been booed. after all, peeps didn't start booing until midway though the show...when it became apparent that prince was not interested in playing.

that's so true and i should make it clear whilst bitching that many peeps did enjoy the show, including one fo the folks i went with. after we scratch out those who would have been dissatisfied no matter what and those who would have been satisfied no matter what, there were probably just as many who enjoyed the show as did not.

I wasn't at the show, so maybe I misunderstood, but I thought the tickets were at first limited to 1 per club member, then it was raised to 2 per club member?

But anyway, my point was that with so many new fans who are going to the shows and aftershows, Prince's audience is now different than the audiences of hardcore fans who love everything he does.

I do understand what you're saying, but Prince has never been a "responsible or considerate appreciative entertainer." It's always been about his wants, needs, and moods. wink

As it should be. He's not a jukebox and anybody who does their homework knows that the aftershows are a crapshoot in terms of what kind of show you'll get. It's understandable that a fan could be disappointed but to boo is so childish. I can't imagine a grownup booing because they didn't get the kind of show they want. If he had done/said something offensive maybe. Sounds like a bunch of spoiled brats that didn't get disciplined as children.

For the record, I doubt I'd have cared much for this show either. If not out of respect for the musicians, I would have kept my cool so as not to disturb those that were enjoying the show.

Oh blah blah blah, you're such a stoic adult who posts on an internet site devoted to a grown man who has made a career out of wearing panties, high heels and makeup. We get it.

Well...Eye was at a Charlotte concert in the Hit N Run tour November 2000. The crowd was a little loud, but 4 a Prince show, the crowd was a little lame. Then Doug E Fresh hit the stage, and hogged up 25-30 minutes of the show with awful lame tired rapping. THE CROWD WENT NUTS LIKE IT WAS A REVOLUTION COMEBACK!!! I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT.

So me, by myself, started booing. I wasn't booing Prince per se, but booing the Charlotte crowd who was actually encouraging the bullshit non-music part of the concert 2 go on and on and on. These same morons wouldn't fill the local 7-11 if Doug E was signing autographs, but they screamed like it was the end of the world. 2 this day, one of my lowest moments as a Prince fan. (The lowest was any concert I attended with Tony M in the band.)
