How big of a deal is this really? Mike was off his game...not catching the signals Prince was tossin'. During a solo, when the spotlight was off them both, Prince goes over and gets Mike's attention.

They're on tour. It happens.

I would never want to work for prince! Let him be my entertainer not my boss... actually he does nice things and mean things, both sides to the extreme with his employees.

Artists are temperamental, emotional creatures. Put "perfectionist" on top of that & you have a person that will unleash on yo ass if he/she feels the need boxed

If Mike wasn't paying attention & fuckin' up, OH WELL... They all know by now you gotta watch yo ass when you're on stage w/ P - he don't take no shit! Pay attention, listen up, roll w/ the changes & don't say shit! lol

Doesn't surprise me - on the Rave2000 DVD under Bonus Grooves (George Clinton @ 1:56) Prince kinda pulls Mike's sleeve, I think he tells him to "back up" & "watch me" or something like that. It wasn't angry but it was definitely corrective. Maybe P forgets that people are watching him @ ALL TIMES, no matter who's soloing. smile

P has learned from the best.....James Brown imparticularly. He was the original Task master. He would cuss Bootsy&Catfish out on stage 4 f'n up! I've seen Clinton and Larry Blackmon go off on stage with band members or Tech's.

Hey.... Beefs happen on tour. It happens all the time. Sounds like P went straight up street on his ass.

I just wish Mike Scott wasn't on this tour, or any other guitarist... No offense 2 Mike or his playing, but I like when Prince has 2 hold down all of the guitar... Especially with the funk. That was one of the best things about the ONA tour, and the beginning of this one.

ok, let's look at it from another point of view. Prince is in charge of this entire production. Obviously he takes pride in HIS show and being able to blame a problem with HIS show on someone else is of no comfort. We know he rehearses like crazy so maybe Mike missed something on this night even after all the rehearsal. Maybe Mike wasn't paying attention. Maybe, Mike is known within the band to be easily distracted??If all of this were true, would you be upset with prince? My point is, no one knows what led to this on stage altercation. It's Prince's name on the whole thing... he's a pro and his standards are waaaaay up there.

I don't agree with a manager (this is what Prince is as well as the CEO, Head of Research and Developement, Lead Hand etc.) yell at his employees in front of a crowd but do you think Mike is doing Prince a favor playing with him for this tour? Yeah right, there are tonnes of very competent musicians itching to play with any Prince band!

Just to reply to you thinking it is not professionnal to react this way on stage.

I have seen Miles Davis humliating Froley (his bassis) for 10 minutes on stage, making him repeat a melody until it was right in front of 6000 people.

I have seen James Brown shouting at his drummer for not being tight enough.

I have seen David Bowie with Tin Machine having a go at the sound engineer.

All very unprofessionnal people...

This is a very common thing with perfectionnists on stage.

I remember Prince in Brussels as well not being happy with Barbarella while he was doing his solo and telling him off in front of everybody as well.

I have seen Prince pissed several times at different concerts. At the Key Club in L A he dropped some spray he was using for his voice. it rolled under the drum set. He motioned Tukami to get it and it was as if he had to tell him several times before tukami knew what he was saying. prince didn't look too happy.

DAMN! omfg I can see a perfectionist getting upset if a musician screws up, but can't they wait until AFTER the show to talk to them about it, rather than yelling at them in front of everybody? sad

I get your point but these guys hear everything that is wrong. It really pisses them off when they are in action. And sometimes they are so much into it, it drives them nuts.

Moreover this is as well "a Rock'n roll attitude". They like to show off and show who is the boss.

The most amazing thing for me was to see Miles Davis with Foley...The poor guy repeating the same melody after Miles over and over again. For all of us it was just plain perfect. But for Miles, there was something missing. He basically carried on for 10 minutes with those 10 notes. People were stunned. And Foley was lost. Eventually he played it for the "thousand" times and Miles showed him that was exactly what he wanted.

This isn't the first time Prince's anger has shown up on stage. In a perfect world, Prince would wait till the show is over to voice his displeasure with a band mate, but sometimes emotions take over and these things happen. No big deal. They probably are getting on each others nerves by now, but they certainly wouldn't be the first band in history to experience that.
I'm sure they hashed it out, or duked it out, after the show and got their miscommunications cleared up. Well, probably not duked it out since I'm assuming Prince is still able to walk and talk. lol
