Musicology - Toronto 2nd Night July 28, 2004

Ok here' my 1st review:

This is my 4th show on the tour and although the NPG is always tight they seemd to be even tighter. For starters as a club member I had the opportunity too attend the taping of Prince on the Much Music Program that was done in the afternoon but I got to Toronto a little too late before they closed the doors (audience members had to be there by 12:30 PM), so on to the show.

As a surprise unannounced guest Nelly Furtado opened up at 7:30 exact with a 45 min. set.

Prince arrived at 9:00 PM with Musicology which before he even started singing he walked around each side of the stage too which the crowd went nuts. The set list was the same as other cities so I will just mention some diffrences that I have noticed. The DMSR, I Feel For U, Controversy segment in my opnion is the official funk workout portion of the show. DMSR alone was around 15 to 17 min. alone which included Beyonce's Crazy In Love, Pass The Peas, diffrent horn riffs from the JB's, and right back to DMSR. 1 funny part during DMSR was when Prince told the band to stop and let Mike Scott rock it, he adjusted Mike's hat but he put it on to where it looked like it was going to fall off so Mike tried to adjust it real quick in the process he stopped the riff for a quick 2 seconds to which Prince said besides the suit coming back your guitar I hope meaning I hope that riff is coming back in. During Controversy when he instructed the crowd to jump up & down the whole Air Canada Center was doing it not to mention I was in the 112 section and the folks we're rocking so hard that the whole section was shaking. Also during Controversy Prince brought up a guy from the crowd that had on black with a bright red shirt & hat and this is when he said I didn't know they had pimps in Canada. This is also when a pizza was delivered to the stage (during Musiclogy a lady came up with a pen and a pad to which Prince said to the crowd excuse me and must have whispered his oreder and then after the band came back in on the 1) and during this funk workout Prince stopped and told the crowd CAN'T NOBODY MESS WITH MY BAND, and then why the music was stopped and the crowd screaming to the top of their lungs, he passed out pieces of the pizza to the front row. The acoustic set also included Peach, 17 Days (which was a surprise to me) and also Prince & The Band just to mention a few and the acoustic set was around 30 min.

I have 2 words:

JOHN BLACKWELL

When they rocked Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love Prince ripped the guitar and John just demolished the Drums with his Drum Solo. Words can not explain what this man does to the Drums you just have to see for yourself, and also Toronto went crazy after this solo.

Toronto got 2 songs for the encore:
Call my name
Purple Rain

All N All I had a great time as so the crowd and can't wait to go again if he comes near. If you haven't seen the tour, try to you won't be disappointed!

good review, 17 days was a personal highlight, along with whole lotta love cover, the generous drum solos from blackwell were inspiring to say the least, the guitar solos, especially on shhhh, almost made me cry, prince on bass, and to top it all off i was the lucky guy to catch his white hat after the early purple rain hits medley.....THANK U PRINCE AND NPGMC!!!!!

Spats

I went to both and i would give the edge to the first show. It was longer and had a better encore. He also did a longer version of Purple Rain at the first show. But the second show had a great "Whole Lotta Love".
