I Seriously Wish I was there to give my Honest Opinion..I Think the fans just Don't wanna hear Larry Graham Tunes anymore..Been hearing them since 1998 and although I Like them and him well other fans are BORED! Secondly,Prince's aftershow at STUDIO 54 after THE ALLADIAN Show was AWESOME..PLENTY of JAMS and Prince Songs..Ya Should have Seen this show...Aftershows are basically extended jams of Several songs..That's Prince. It used to be The Ride...Listen to SMALL CLUB 1988. Then here's another one..THE UNDERTAKER..

I agree with u. If u look at past boots of P's aftershows he's always done covers from the Small Club boot 2 the Gold Experience boots. He pretty much jamz on covers and some chosen 1's from his catalog. P's aftershows r mostly gumbo funk!

that was exactly the reason for the disappointment i felt with the aftershow. prince didn't jam. his band did while he stood off to the side fiddling with some keys. he didn't even play the keys enthusiastically. i'm down with covers and jams...hell, i'd prefer them! nod i just wasn't terribly interested in watching the chance howard aftershow or the larry graham aftershow.

Sounds just like the aftershow on June 5th @ HOB in Los Angeles. I wasnt so much dissapointed by the performance, P was VERY interactive with the crowd and playing bandmaster, like only he can. BUT, the fact that the Musicology shows are mainly comprised of the "pop" hits from back in the day.....I would figure that P would come to an afterjam and play some more "FONKY" numbers that havent been heard live in awhile. Kids were not able to attend the HOB at that time of night, so I didnt see a reason as why P couldnt have turned up the vibe meter a little bit.

I understand and respect P's wishes not to cuss or be profane anymore, but should that cause him to IGNORE some of his past songs (his children, as he calls them) with more risque lyrics? Everyone is intitled to their own being.....but, please oh please, bring back the ARTIST ('94 - '99) that has been gone astray for so long!!!!! Peace.

Well, my spin on the H.O.B. show was this. I stood in line for over 6 hours, then stood waiting at the front of the stage for about 3. The crowd was in a bad mood by the time the band started up (and even I was sick of hearing James Brown tunes by 3am [never thought I'd be sick of James Brown] ). We were all miserable up front, and I can't imagine how miserable people who didn't have something to lean on were.

However, once the band started up, the totally rocked the house (and that's not just because I (consider myself) a hard-core fan. It was obvious from our (the people up front's) vantage point that Prince was pissed at something (and I seriously don't think it was the crowd....as miserable as we were, we were all unbelievably pleased (and relieved) to see the NPG get started. It seemed pretty obvious Prince (and crew) were pissed off at the technological screw-ups going on around them (undoubtedly the reason the show started over 2 hours late [well one hour late NPG Time.] )

As far as the content of the show, well, I think it would have been a lot more disapointing had they shown up and did a repeat of the Greatest Hits show/s they'd just performed or just showcased "Musicology". Though it was my first after-show (which may expalain why I wasn't so critical of it) I've always been of the impression that his After Shows/Parties were in fact just free-style jams with a couple hits thrown in.

As far as the complaints being discussed, I never heard any booing (then again I was right in front of the monitors). I was also one of the dorks dancing on stage and from that view, the audience seemed way into the show. Afterwards, the only complaints I heard were that H.O.B. had oversold the show and that people could barely move or breathe. Everyone at Berlin the next night had only great things to say about it. Also, many of the critiques posted at Metromix looked like shills, authored by the same person (despite the different screen-names).

Once again, I could be biased because it was my first after-show, and I was front-stage. I'll let you know if I change my mind a few after-shows from now.

PS- Tonight's show was great (again) and having The Time show up was hot!
Fly Casual,

Bosh
