Chicago Friday 7/23/04 Show

The concert was live as usual, but it was really LOUD tonight. I could barely hear Prince over the music. Considering everything John has been through, he cut up tonight! And Maceo was on point also. I finally got to hear Adore. Still no Beautiful Ones, but I'll live.

Even when he does do Beautiful Ones, it is cut a bit short to be really good, in my opinion. Just like the opening hits section. But I guess he has to do that since he had so many hits.

I noticed a few things at the Friday night show..... (I was in the front row and had a pretty darn good view of Mr. P. 80% of the time.....
Did any one else notice that he was REALLY sweating last night...???
BIG TIME?????
Also, he kinda "rushed" through the last few songs and didn't even change clothes when he came out for Purple rain....
He usually looks so nice and "dauper" for that song.....
It was kinda like he was doing ok and having fun... but then thought, I am bored lets get this over with.....
I agree... it was a bit hard to hear him last night.... Instruments were a tad too loud..... confused
And I have to ask this..... WHY can't he start the darn show on time????
I have been to OVER 20 shows and he has NEVER EVER started the show
on time or less than 1/2 hour late?????
What is the deal with that?????

We will be there again tonight..... wink

i noticed he didn't change for purple rain, too...i thought that was kinda odd. LOVED the peach and black outfit at the beginning, though!

the sound was off last night - i think it was a great show, but something was off kilter. i was sitting near the sound guy and at some point prince mouthed something to him that he didn't understand...wonder if that sound guy will be there tonight? lol

I can't survive tonight although I really would like to go to the House of Blues for the Aftershow, but I'm pooped. I have seen Prince twice, Madonna, Twista, New Edition and Teena Marie at The Taste. My ears can't take anymore.

Tonight he seemed to rush through the beginning and the end. He was sweating like a maniac but I think he was dancing harder too. He was cutting up when he was doing the booty dance after he told those people he would give them what they wanted so they would get up.

Purple Rain has been better, but Adore was lovely and Let's Work was a nice addition. I went in April and he did not perform Adore, Pop Life, Let's Work, Prince and the Band, U Got The Look, Peach, Cream or The Glamerous Life so it was different, but still fun.

pretty damn good. he did it acoustic, so it almost had kind of a santana-ish sound to it, as opposed to the cold electro-robot sound that we're used to.

I am glad to hear someone else say that!
Even though I had a really great time, I was distractd by the sound quality and would have to concentrate on having a blast and forgetting about the fact I couldnt understand what he was singing!
And I felt the first part went by so fast that it was like a blur....and awesome blur, but a blur none the less wink

Some people I talked to about Thursday's show said it started about an hour and a half late! Whats up with that? They also said it was hot as hell in the arena. If P is getting tuckered out he should quit the afterparties and relax so he's 100% for the shows.

I was at Friday night's (7/23) show too! Prince really rocked the house, as usual. I also saw him in Champaign back in April. I have to agree about the sound. In Champaign, the sound was perfect. Very clear and not excessively loud. At the Allstate Arena, it was LOUD! My ears were ringing for hours after the show. And I also had a hard time hearing Prince's voice over the instruments. I was absolutely thrilled that he did Alphabet Street in Chicago! He did not play that in Champaign. One of my faves!

I can confirm that it was hot as hell in there. No wonder he was sweating! We were sweating and we weren't even on stage. In April, he was only 1/2 an hour late coming on stage. Friday night was a little ridiculous - an hour and a half late. It makes me wonder if it isn't the venue itself setting the actual time he comes on stage. Let me explain - in Champaign (Assembly Hall at U of I) there is no alcohol served because it is part of the university. So, they gave people time to get their food and soda. In Chicago, alcohol is served. The Allstate Arena makes a fortune off of these sales. So, let's have the artist start late and reap all of the benefits. Hmmmmm.....

Regardless, Prince is the man. I think he is incredible. I've seen a lot of concerts in my time....my all time favorite was and probably will always be Pink Floyd's Animal tour at Soldier Field. Prince has taken a very close second to that show. I rarely pay to see the same artist twice. Prince is one of the few exceptions.

Keep on rocking Prince! You truly are a musical genious! cool
