HARTFORD WAS OFF THE HOOK!

"HARTFORD!"
That was all PRINCE needed 2 exclaim 2 get the party rolling in CT 2nite. Prince and the NPG turned it out 2nite.
The Civic Center was not sold out...in fact, there was a whole section in the back that was blocked off, with all empty seats. Didn't matter, however, cuz the thousands in attendance showed Prince so much love it seemed like there were 50,000 people up in there. I was at the NJ show last nite (and am also going Sunday) but Hartford showed more energy and rocked harder than NJ..and I am not just saying that cuz I'm from CT. The crowd was off the hook.
The setlist was pretty much the same as previous shows, but there was no "Adore","Sweet Thing", "ICNTTPOYM" or "Prince and the Band" during the acoustic set. HOWEVER, THERE WAS "I LOVE U IN ME" performed brilliantly. Absolutely unbelievable. Also, after "Sign O' The Times" there was no "The Question of U/The One." HOWEVER, THERE WAS "WHOLE LOTTA LOVE." The guitar heroics were not 2 be believed.
The encore was only "Purple Rain' and that too was brilliant. The guitar solos were monstrous and Prince really tore it up.
Prince was in a funny, playful mood throughout the show...he had a "waitress" come on stage and placed an order 4 some food, which was delivered on a tray (I think there was soup in there). Prince put the tray down over by Rhonda's "furniture" and was going 2 eat. Well, a girl had handed Prince a bouquet of flowers (which he graciously accepted) so HE PULLED HER UP ONSTAGE, SAT HER DOWN, PLACED A CLOTH NAPKIN ON HER LAP and (I'm assuming) told her 2 help herself. It was just classic. I don't believe the young lady ate anything, but at one point Prince wiped her mouth and chin with the napkin. The crowd went wild. Peace 2 that chick that was onstage.
Ok, now 4 my NPGMC seats...ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. I was in the second row at an angle behind Chance looking directly at Prince. When he came over 2 our side (which he favored all nite) he was literally 10 feet away. It was too cool. I was in the 8th row last nite and THAT was incredible, but 2nite's seats were banging...many thanks NPGMC.
The NPG was tight as always and CANDY IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. She was so close 2 us all nite. The horns were in front of us all nite and we were able 2 show them much love. Peace 2 the whole band.
But most of all, peace 2 Prince 4 giving the fans much more than their money's worth. Truly, this man is a genius.

biggrin I totally agree. I've seen Prince 3 times and this was by far the best show. He really was on fire last night. I had hoped for an after-show, but there's aren't many places he could play in Hartford...Overall, a great night. My girlfriend's first Prince show (a semi-fan) and she was really blown away with his musicianship and incredible energy.

yeah, the Hartford show was definitely better to me... "I Love U in Me" was the killer in the set... a big surprise. I was thankful for "Whole Lotta Love" because I'd just started really getting into that on the DVD. He tore it up and down. You couldn't help but feel it... as opposed to the first NJ show, I danced the whole time... something some folks in section 2 didn't seem to appreciate, lol..

Rhonda and Candy were looking nice too.. wink

u know hartford HAD to b off the hook if there's 3 topic posts on the show itself...

i was right behind john's drum set, 2nd row, next to my peeps from jersey (call me bout club black)...it's cool to meet other orgrers at the shows. highlight was def. "a whole lotta love", followed by john's massive drum solo. you know, john is so on point, it's scary. john kept tossing his sticks to the crowd, and yep, i got a stick!!! (my girl did actually, but she was gracious enough to give it to me).

I was at the show too and it was amazing. This is my 3rd of this tour (Cleveland & Tampa). Certainly I Love U in Me was a highlight along with Whole Lotta Love. The acoustic set is always a favorite. During Cream, when he does his thing about singing it at home in the mirror, he acted like he was looking in a mirror and was mouthing it to himself. Prince is such a showman.
I missed the Question of U/The One...I'd rather he drop I Feel for you or Life of the Party off this list...but I realize Prince is trying for different moods at different points of the night.

I love James Brown's "Hot Pants", so I have a great appreciation for the concert version of "Life Of The Party". For me, the shows (in general) have had no low points. I wish I had gone to Hartford. I was toying around with it, but decided against it. Oh well...I would have gotten a huge kick out of it.

I have a question. Someone who attended the show, tell me if Prince sung the part of "I Love You In Me" that goes "I promised myself not to come until she does. Then she took both hands and a liar I was. No man in this world could ever hope to last, when my baby down shifts and starts pumping fast." Did he sing that???
