At 3:30, when I left- there was no perfomance and no P sighting. They had the DJ onstage and at about 2:30-2:45 they started playing the footage from the show earlier that night.

I have NO idea where you were last night, but Prince WAS there along with virtually the entire band in the VIP section. They were there as early as 2:00-2:15 a.m.

A marginal DJ had been playing old school joints and Prince tunes since the party started. It was packed wall to wall until about 1:45-2:00 when it started thinning enough to walk around at ease, but trust that it was still crowded.

At around 2:40-ish they started playing the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame tape, and I'm like "oh, how nice" but not fathoming that they'd actually play the CONCERT TAPE FROM WEDNESDAY'S MSG SHOW! HELLO!

They played the tape from the top of Prince's show through "Controversy" before stopping it. (No tape of The Time, but yes, Morris and Jerome were in the VIP section, too). Whenever a band member had a hot solo, like John Blackwell, everyone in the VIP section would cheer that person, as would all of us in the public area. When Sheila E.'s performance of "The Glamorous Life" happened amidst the "Controversy" bit (right after Prince gets emotional about his band being 'untouchable'), the MSG crowd gave her a standing ovation for like a solid 2 minutes, and so did we! It lasted so long that Sheila E. yes finally stood up on the seat of the VIP booth she had been sitting in and gave a big smile, wave, and thanks to everyone for about 30 seconds. Then, back to the tape, she asks if we want more, and we're like duh. She jams a little while longer and eventually turns over one of her timbales before giving a final long bow. And Sheila in the VIP section stood up again and waved again. She looked great. And I realized that I had not laid eyes on Sheila SINCE the mid-80s! Wow.

Then, Prince (on tape) gave her props on stage and finished "Controversy." Then the tape stopped. The DJ came back on stage to continue spinning. Everyone in the club booed him. "We want Prince! We want Prince!" we shouted. But seconds later Prince was making his exit along with the entire band entourage. Chance Howard and a few other VIP section stragglers stayed behind. We thought that 'maybe' Prince might take the stage to say a few words (the stage only had DJ equipment on it--no band set up). But he and the rest were gone. At this point, it's like 3:40 a.m. And of course, the place started emptying out because people ONLY wanted to see Prince, even if on tape. I left. Done.

Now, THAT was well worth $25 if you ask me. Even though we didn't get to see the rest of the tape, what we saw (Sheila E. performance, etc.) was ALL THAT! Honestly, if they had played the entire tape, we would have been there until after 5:00 a.m.!!! I'm sleepy as I write this so I know I would have been dead if we had been there that late.

Anyway. Who else was there?

Prince was there in the roped off VIP section. This afterparty was alot better and had about twice as many people there. Other celebrties in the VIP section were Spike Lee, Chris Rock, LA Ried, Sheila E., Jellybean Johnson, Chance Howard, Morris Day and maybe Alicia Keys(to dark to tell).

Wow. You think it's worth $25 to watch an hour of a taped concert? You're easy to please I guess.

Remember those old Bugs Bunny cartoons when one of the characters would do something stupid and they would turn into a huge lollipop with a wrapper that said "SUCKER" on it? I saw about 200-300 lollipops last night standing around.

As I said somewhere else on this site- This after party was a huge waste of time and money and I have no idea why it was even put together, let alone announced by NPGMC. $25 to stand for four hours (you could only sit at a table if you bought a $150 bottle), hoping and wishing we would all get to see one of the legendary late night jams. And all we get is a video of a show that most of the people had seen earlier that night, and a Sheila E. sighting. I didnt even know Prince had been there until the DJ (who sucked BTW- are attention spans so short that he cant play more than a verse or two of a song?) announced that he had left the building.

Would it have killed the guy to play 2 or 3 songs, even if it was just with an acoustic guitar? Or, at the very least, hop onstage and wave to everybody? I would have even been happy if at some point he could've just stood up and given us all finger.

Oh wait a minute- thats kinda what he did.

First of all-as LoveMachine said- learn to spell.

Second- What was billed as an Afterparty at one of the Dallas shows ended up being an aftershow.

Third- I never said Prince was a fool. And I never said Prince promised anything. And if you were there, and that was your idea of a "party" -I really don't know what to tell you.

Fourth- the forum is a place to post and discuss opinions -if you dont agree -say so. But there's no need to insult people.

I swear- some of you "fams" are just as bad as Trekkies.

I agree. Although she thinks Prince used to dress like a clown, so I have to question her true fan level. Though maybe she's just a fan of the way Prince is now. And that's a scary thought. shake

I'll bet dollars to donuts you werent even there. You're obviously one of these Prince Trekkies that thinks the man does no wrong and has a sick need to defend him as vehemently as you would yourself. Everyone who was there left disappointed.

You should move to MPLS- it would be alot easier for you to kiss his ass.

By the way- you have over 1000 posts- I have maybe 10 by this point. How is my "complaining" constant?

Yeesh! Can't we all just get along...
sad

I was at the after party and it was disappointing. I arrived right after the concert, stood outside long enough to get really upset with the way they were letting people in (pre-sale folks too) stood around and listen to some wack! music. Saw famous people as they walked in and didn't even know Prince was there until a girl i was standing next to said" he probably won't play but he just finished eating dinner". So after wandering over to the VIP SECTION i got a glimpse of the "crew" Prince and the band, folks from the Time including Morris. His wife was there too (for all the "where is Mani Posts). AND she looked gorgeous as usual. GO GIRL!

The evening was disappointing because like others said we HAD to stand the entire time. My left foot is still jacked up because I insist on trying to look cute to his concerts so that i can get up on stage. I'm 0 for 47! hahahhahahaha

Anyway, i got a chance to talk to John Blackwell to let him know that we are still praying for his family but that's how the evening ended.

It doesn't matter that it was billed as an "AfterParty" - you know good and well that the only reason any of those people paid their money to stand around in a packed club for 4 hours is because they're hoping that Prince will in fact play, as he has done at many other afterPARTIES....and for $25, you'd kinda hope he would, right? Just a couple of years ago, afterparties that truly were just that were $7 at the door, which is much more reasonable.

(By the way, I'd love to see some of the NPG members stand in one space for so long...by the end of the Paisley cover band extravaganza 6/18, my legs below my knees were totally numb. Rhonda'd take off her stillettos and stab herself in the eye just to get rid of the pain.)

For 25.00 I wouldnt have expected a show. The aftershows at Paisley Park last month were 50.00 and I would expect to pay
at least that much in NY! Afterparties are expensive these days!
I can also remember seeing some great shows for $7.00!

I got SUCKERED by the afterparty scam FOUR times in 2 different cities. Just like you hoping and wishing that there'd be a late night jam that I kept hearing about. Standing in long lines, paying cash, getting crushed in a crowded club, and then nothing..Prince sits in a VIP area..no Prince music, no videos, no performance. Nothing.

Unwarranted bitching is worse than idol worshipping. Nobody was promised a damned thing. Maybe you'd have a beef if he and the band didn't even bother to show. Oh, and if I ever clown somebody and your best response is to question my grammar or point out a typo, save it. I've done plenty of time in the classroom and only took what I needed.
