ABSOLUTELY NUTHIN'. P was there...in a VIP booth. WE payed $25 for a ok dance party...the DJ sucked and didnt play Prince until the very end of the nite. WE stayed till about 3am and there were hardly any people there at all...Oh well, no show promised but still...to charge any kind of money and go thru the hassle of tix and everything...waiting in line, etc...

I was wondereing...has there ever been "Official" tickets sold thru his website for a "Non" event before?? I dont think so. If he wasnt going to play, why put out a NPG Club mass e-mail and allow tickets to be sold that way? Just let the venue handle it, that really plays with the fans minds...

Oh and just to play with your minds a bit more...the " BUZZ " was that it was ON for tonite at BB Kings...so take that with a grain of salt, but the word was the show is tonite. Ill be there....waiting...and waiting....and waiting....lol!

all right, i'll try my hand (although i cannot get into crazy detail right now). i got to the venue around 1115, only to be greeted by a pretty long line (they weren't letting anyone in early).

around 1230am (roughly) the line started to move, right as the line was finally dwindling down, prince's limo pulled up, he got out (dressed up in black & white, giving one of his soo sexy smiles), and strutted his way into bb king's.

the will call situation wasn't that bad (at least for the people around me), and their was no crazy frisking or anything like that. once i got downstairs, the general admission area was pretty packed, with people dancing to some old dance numbers. the bar area was pretty packed as well.

prince remained on the far side of the club, chatting with some ladies that i didn't quite recognize, while sitting at a table. he seemed super playful, laughing and and periodically bouncing back and forth in the booth. that went on and on until around 130 (roughly). most people weren't really noticing this -- or trying to bug him -- and just kept on dancing.

by around 130 (roughly) prince was walking around in that side area, chatting up with random people (both people known to him and with what looked like fams giving him the thanx). it seemed like it was around 2am when he and his entourage (from the band, it only seemed as if chance was there) bolted out a back door. at that time you could still maybe, hopefully think that it was a doorway to backstage -- where he would finally kick off the dj and kick out his own jams -- but no dice...

people lingered around and definitely were doing some solid dancing up -- it wasn't until about 230 when the dj finally played a couple of sheila e. songs (a love bizarre & glamorous life) -- which got the people dancing more. but unfortunately, he followed that up with kool & the gang -- and i decided that was time for me to go home.

all in all, the vibe was pretty positive -- i didn't hear anyone screaming or complaining that prince should have played, which was good. was it rrrrreallllly worth the 25 dollars? not really, but the vibe was decent enough (a hell of a lot better than any other club-like nite at another spot). sorry i cannot be more informative -- it was just a lotta people dancing, prince toying around on the side, a few people staring at him, he bolted, and i think i saw my dude herbie hancock for a quick second.

who knows, maybe tonight he will bring out his little friend, The Blue Angel. well, i kinda doubt that one...

It was a complete waste of time and money. What was the point of spending $25 to hear a bunch of lame music and see Prince in the distance? It was a total scam. The ticket may have said after "party" instead of after "show", but they could have at least played Prince music or showed some cool videos on the screens.

i wish these club events that use prince's name as a draw would realize that we're there for, hmmm, i dunno....PRINCE?!?!? if the man's not gonna play in person, then at least the DJs could spin some prince or prince-associated music. i mean, there's enough of it to choose from, right? if i were at an afterparty half-expecting to see prince perform, a fair consolation would be that at least i was able to dance my butt off to a bunch of his music. i'd be really disappointed if i had to stand around and endure kool & the gang all night, yuck.

yeah the dj played really shitty music:
1. james brown
2. the jb's
3. maceo parker
4. brass construction
5. etta james

etc etc etc

funny thing is, did you know he asks his dj's NOT to play his music? or did that not dawn on you?
why would he want to sit at HIS after party & listen to HIS music...

all bout the roots of funk & soul baby, what made prince prince the people who HE himself mentions time & time again, im sure maceo liked it since half of it he played on...
just ask the dance circle that cut the rug... or the olady w/ the afro puffs dancing circles around all the gawkers w/ arms crossed waiting for a concert that was obviously not going to happen & was never billed as happening...

yall just pissed cuz you ASSUMED he was playing & since 90% of what the dj played is not radio bullshit you dont know how to get it, great reason to hate...
& had you seen him perform at an after party, he would have played covers of the majority of what the dj played that night such as bobby byrd & pleasure for example, but most of you complaining probably don't know who they are...

didnt go on wed night, but heard it was more immature fans complaing they got ripped off? was it the dj's party? anyone ever wonder if he was just doin' his job as asked by the people who hired him>?

cool

I went to both after-parties. Tuesday the dj sucked but I think the club owners realized and got a great one for Wednesday. Watching the live concert footage on the big screen was great as well, esp. when Sheila E stood up at her table to accept applause! The first night, some stranger in line invited us to sit at a table. Little did I know the bill came to $550!! He paid for everything and I even managed to walk over and join in a conversation with Prince and a guy claiming to be a programmer for Clear Channel's R&B stations. At one point, Prince said to him "You will play 3 songs by Alicia Keys before you will play one by me." I nodded my head yes and then Prince looked at me as if I was backing him up or something. I was stunned and must have looked like a deer in the headlights. I think I was just so overwhelmed by the fact that Prince was so 'down to earth' and friendly. I shook his hand, said "Thanks" and he said "Peace brother". Why was 'thanks' the only thing that came out of my mouth? P.S...thanks to the guy who paid for the table, two bottles of champagne and food! You rock, whoever you are! By the way, I was watching P Diddy all night and he and his sidekick didn't seem that interested in the concert. When Prince sang "Sign of the Times" and referred to Diddy and sang "Let's fall in love, get married, have a baby....we'll call him Sean Jean, if it's a boy", I looked over at Diddy and he was clueless. Oh well. Hopefully he learned a thing or two about playing an instrument.

Perhaps you're the only FAKE-ASS PERSON on this thread, soulrez1200.

Have you had your plus sign today? If not, have it already and chill the hell out. wink

"Learn your history." What an infuriatingly smug and superior (not to mention false) assumption...that just because they didn't play "Top 40 radio" people didn't know what the songs were. First of all, just because someone is a huge fan of music and a huge fan of Prince music does not mean that one would necessarily pay $25 to hear James Brown, Etta James or Maceo Parker songs played in a club, while they are forced to stand because a table costs $550.

I'm not knocking any of those performers, and I know my fucking history. And for example, I realize James Brown is a legend and I dig listening to his performances from time to time. However, it's nothing that I would want to dance to at a club - that's just the way it is.

It never fails to piss me off when someone assumes that just because someone on here doesn't like hearing Prince play R&B house band songs (like "Knock on Wood" and just about everything else played at the 6/18 aftershow) or doesn't think that it's appropriate to not play any Prince songs at a Prince afterparty, that automatically means that they "don't know their history."

Hey, guess what...Prince has an extremely diverse fanbase, largely due to the extremely diverse catalogue of music he has amassed over the years. Some of us might prefer to dance to Nine Inch Nails over James Brown. Some of us might prefer to dance to Prince over Etta James. That doesn't make them automatically any less knowledgable about music.

As others have said on this thread, the very least that they could do is play at least the OCCASIONAL Prince song, for God's sake. $25 isn't free, and from reading these posts I don't see where any of that money went to, or why. If Prince doesn't want to hear Prince songs at the afterparty then perhaps he should just stay at home. I know I'd much rather hear his music and dance all night then hear music that doesn't really do it for me in a dance club atmosphere and turn to stare at the back of Prince's head from time to time.

blueangel, i actually agree w/ you, but to talk shit on a dj who did what he was supposed to is rediculous, & i know damn well, had he busted out a 4hr prince set, people would think it was the greatest thing since popcorn...
& my post was to the minority of people who couldnt let loose & party, it was a party right?
to all those who danced & had a good time, hats off, to those who whine bout 25$, dont know what to say other than i could think of a lot worse places to have spent 25$ that night in NYC, i love good music as im sure you do as well, & that night i myself heard good music met great people & danced like i hadnt in years...
& yur right it does not mean one would necessarily pay 25$ to hear that music, but obviously it was the mans party & thats what he wanted to hear...

much respect to both groups of people that were there straight up, live a little shake that groove thing...

i guess if you wanted prince music, thats what the concert was for...

till the next time we dance...
peace

Soulrez1200, thanks for the kind response!!

I think maybe the NPGMC could avoid all this stuff if they stated in the announcement that typically Prince asks the DJ to avoid playing his songs or related artists' songs....I think a lot of people assume that they're in for a purple dance party, and that seems like a reasonable, if perhaps faulty, assumption.

But yeah, thanks for replying. I think we're on the same page. wink

And I'm glad to hear that you had a good time. Perhaps you've had your plus sign after all! smile
