Cameras at shows?

Are people bringing cameras (besides picture phones) to any shows? I've noticed that the Joe Louis site posts rules about cameras, saying that certain size camersas aren't allowed, but making is sound like smaller ones were. But I've been to other Prince concerts that had notes posted on the doors, stating absolutely no cameras allowed.

at milwaukee summerfest they were telling us that we could not have cameras and if we were caught we would have our camera smahsed infront of us. i took the risk and used mine anyways and noone saw me or they just didnt care and were too worked into the groove.

I saw tons of cell phone cameras in NY. I snapped a shot from far away with a regular camera but saw security investigating someone who brought a camcorder in. Good luck.

In Chicago, the security announced, while we were in line, that if you had a camera you better take it back to your car or it would be confiscated. I did see a few people inside with them. I could have easily brought one in in my pocket. I didn't have a purse & my pockets weren't checked. If you bring one, I'd suggest a disposable just in case they take it away. I saw one guy using binoculars & the usher got in his face with a flashlight to see if it was a camera.

At the show in Chicago on Thursday night I had the scare of my life over a stinking camera.
My seats were at the end of the row. I was totally mesmerized and digging the show when all of a sudden I look to the side of me and there are like 5 huge security people. I didnt know what was up.
One went barging down the row,and got the guy and the woman with him to get up and leave with them. Part of it involved the camera and/or video cam whatever it was for sure, but I think something elese may have been involved. It happened then later to the other side of me when somone was taking pic with the camera on their cellphone..and wahm..there was a security guy barging down my aisle again. This time they just yelled at the guy...who was an obnoxious drunk and deserved to be yelled at regardless.
So my advice is leave the cameras behind. I

I didn't even bring my camera to MSG because I was afraid they'd take it, but there were TONS of people using them. Plenty of cell phone cameras and digital ones and I even saw a few camcorders!!! Some guy near me was taping it and I guess he was lucky he didn't get caught. They weren't searching bags that hard though so I guess you could get away with it...depending on the arena. Good luck and enjoy...it's a good show.
I'm gonna make you love me...

In New York and New Jersey, the flash was going off every where. People were asking us to move from out front row so they could get a pic with thier camera phones.
*** By the time Prince came to Nassau Coliseum, there were signs on every door

"PRINCE: NO CAMERAS OF ANY KIND ALLOWED".

I saw security ask to look in a woman's purse because she took a picture.

The first time I went in Champagne, they did not do anything. There were cameras everywhere. Tonight in CHicago (Rosemont) they tried to take my film, but I pretended I didn't know how to work the camera and gave them the battery instead. JUST BE CAREFUL if you do take a camera. It really just depends on the venue.

It depends on the venue. Tonight they were acting crazy over any kind of camera.

That's your telephone. They can't/won't prohibit that. Legally, they can only say, "If you take a picture with it, we'll...."

For a second there, you all had me questioning my ability to get my minidisc recorder and microphones into Allstate Arena tonight and August 3. cool Time for me to get my bag packed....

In San Jose, we were told Prince would stop the concert if he thought there were Pictures of any kind being taken.

What about if you wanted to take a pic of yourself with your friends say waiting in line etc?
Are they going to have someone taking pics for $$$ for your own collection?

It's been a long time since I went to a concert and the first with my kid sister, I want pics of the occasion!

Dustysgirl--

it varies from place to place, but..... in Chicago this weekend, they ONLY looked through BAGS/PURSES for cameras. No pat down. No pocket check. People with bags or purses were the only people addressed. (Which means you could've had guns, or drugs, and 3 cameras or whatever in yer pockets! neutral )

Although I'm pretty good with hiding my audio equipment, a technique I've used on occasion is: have a friend go through line/door/security, then call me on cell phone from inside and let me know what the door procedure was (e.g., pat down, pocket search, bag search, metal detectors, or combination of any of the above) before I approach the door.
