Indy Review

This is my first time attempting to write a show review, so be gentile and don't flame me if I do not get things right or remember the exact set list...here it goes.
I arrived at the murat at 5:00pm and there was a lineup by the stage entrance. Nobody seemed to know where the NPGMC members were supposed to go. Someone came out at about 5:45 to inform the MPGMC members to lineup insied the main doors. We were let in soon after and got into the soundcheck at 6:15. When we were all seated, Prince came out and started asking us about our seats (I was in the front row next to Matt) and said he was late to soundcheck because he was in a teleconfrence with ticketmaster. He joked with 2 ladies who had AWESOME airbrushed jackets, wanting one himself. He asked if we had seen the movie "The Time Machine" which he described as bunk, but added that he liked the origional better. He then started to jam with the band on "Pass the Peas" and "Everlasting Now". When he was done with that, he psyched us all out by announcing that the soundcheck was over and turned his back on us until...
GamerX asked if he could play a song with him. Prince asked "what song?" and GamerX said he wanted to play The Christ. Prince strapped GamerX into his Hohner and also mad him take the lead vocal while Prince played keyboards and led the rest of the band. It looked to me like Prince was VERY amused by this show and so did the band. After GAmerX got off the stage, Prince started working out a new arrangement of Other Side of the Pillow with Najee. He tried to get Blackwell to tell us a story about Larry Graham, but ended up telling us himself that Larry was recently mistaken for Famous Amos on an airplane. Everyone busted out on that one. He jammed a little more before we were cleared out at around 7.

The concert started right at 8:00pm(much unlike Prince's last Indy show, which was 3hrs delayed and almost caused a riot.) The show was tight. The setlist was the same as most of the other shows and I couldn't believe the energy in the room. I stood for the whole show(as did most of the floor crowd) but since I had my elbows on the stage I highly doubt I was in anyone's way. He did not bring ppl out of the crowd to dance but he did pull the whole "give/recieve follow/lead" routine and placed an older lady on stage. He reinstituted the whole Family Name patter and landed on ME for the "Lynch" line. My last name is Baker, so he asked me if I baked. I said no(I told him that I can't even make hot pockets) so he tried to keep a straight face when he renamed me. I really didn't mind the whole thing but I do not think it is fair to assume that because I am white that my family was involved in the opression and murder of ppl from different races. Oh well, it's not worth dwelling on. The sound was right on for most of the show except that they turned Najee's sax up WAAAAAYYY late on HCUDCMA.
After the encore it was announced that the afterparty would be at Birdy's. It was changed from Club Lotus because the man wanted to PLAY! Birdy's is a pole barn that is almost 30 minutes away from the venue and the sound sucks. Nobody knew where it was, even most locals haven't even been there. I spent a few minutes giving directions to ppl and I have to say that a few NPGMC members were giving me shit about sharing directions with the "unwashed masses" which I think is a very petty and elitist attitude. Everyone should have the opportunity to experience something like that, not just the diehards. The afterparty was packed and they were letting only members in for free, no member+1. I'm not going to go into details about the aftershow, check out Matt's post. He did a better job than I could. I hope this helps with everyone wanting to know about the Indy show. Sorry about no set list, my memory isn't what it should be. Oh, I almost forgot. For all the fashion hounds...he was wearing a long white sweater, white pants and white "NPG"snow boots for the first half of the show and a grey suit with black shirt for the piano parts and encore.
Love and lust, they both have 4 letters...

So you were the Baker! LOL! Okay! Great post, thanks for mentioning me, glad I got the opportunity to jam! You were right about Najee, I was wondering if we were going to hear him at all!
