legalized drug use would create havoc on society.

People don't do drugs and stay home, and keep their hands to themselves.

they could end up on your front porch or in you child room or the middle of the street parks amusement parks, driving

I agree, that there has to be some changes. But changes to get them help.
The advocates who pressed the laws that allows someone who is in an 'excited delirium' to refuse help doesn't help them, their family/friends, law enforcements or society.
.

another thing people are seeing is legalized weed has caused an increased interest it further 'illegal' weed.
.
But I'm not for a random 'make all drug legal' ideal. I did for a minute, until I saw how much more work it will be when people can legally do whatever, whenever

Veterans Needed For Groundbreaking Clinical Study On CBG, A Cannabis Compound That Could Improve Sleep

© Provided by BenzingaThis Veteran’s Day, the Veterans ECS21 (Veterans Exploring Cannabigerol for Sleep, 2021) Study is putting out the call to other California Veterans who may be interested in joining a study investigating whether CBG (cannabigerol) can help military Vets improve their sleep.

Metta Medical, the Veteran-founded cannabis company that launched this independently designed and co-sponsored clinical research study in October, reports that ECS21 has gained momentum thanks to support from Veterans associations and advocacy groups, such as the Veterans Cannabis Group (the study co-sponsor), Operation EVAC, the Santa Cruz Veterans Alliance and others.

Chris Emerson, Ph.D., founder of Metta Medical and lead investigator of the research study, ââis a Veteran who served in the Navy from ‘93 to ‘97. “As a proud member of the U.S. Armed Forces, Veterans issues are very important to me,” Emerson confided. “This is why our first clinical study is focusing on an issue that could help other Veterans. Clinical research is one way we can pay it forward.”

California Veterans interested in participating in cutting-edge research that could help other Veterans can read more about the study and join at www.veteransECS21study.com.

Marijuana use during pregnancy might hurt children: Study

Luke Gentile -

Marijuana use during pregnancy might result in children developing greater stress and anxiety, a study showed.

Some expectant mothers might use marijuana to cope with morning sickness or relieve anxiety, but the study, published Nov. 15 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, suggested doing so can alter the uterus and result in a child becoming aggressive, hyperactive, and anxious, according to a report.

"People are saying that cannabis is benign, and take it for your anxiety and your nausea, but you need to know that it may have long-term effects on your child," said Yasmin Hurd, Ph.D., senior researcher of the study and director of the Addiction Institute at Mount Sinai in New York City.

By age 3, children of mothers who used marijuana while pregnant displayed changes in hormone levels, aggression, hyperactivity, and elevated anxiety, according to the study.

These developments, along with physiological changes in the measures of the heart's stress response, cannot be definitively tied to marijuana exposure, but there is strong evidence to suggest a relationship exists, Hurd said.

"We can't say that anything in humans is causal because of the complexity and many confounds," she said.

However, THC, the primary psychoactive compound in marijuana, is known to change the immune system of pregnant animals, Hurd said.

The days of "puff, puff, pass" are over for me and should be for everyone. I mean, I don't lose sleep worrying about Covid, but, it doesn't seem too bright for a group of people to all suck on the same pipe/joint/bong/vape pen, etc... these days. Everyone should have their own. Sharing is still cool, but there's no reason pass a pipe.

House Republicans Introduce Legislation That Would Federally Decriminalize Marijuana

https://timcast.com/news/...marijuana/

Legislation that would decriminalize marijuana at the federal level was introduced by Republican lawmakers in the House on Nov. 15.

South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace has led the effort, which would regulate the drug more similarly to alcohol. It would also end legal hazards that inhibit cannabis-related businesses.

If passed, the States Reform Act would let states — not the federal government — regulate and prohibit marijuana as they see fit.

According to US News and World Report, “it would prohibit marijuana use by those under 21, restrict advertising, protect access to hiring and benefits for veterans who have used cannabis and expunge the records of people convicted on nonviolent, cannabis-only related offenses.”

“This bill would also support businesses, in particular small businesses. That’s very important,” Mace said at a news conference. “If we were to pass this bill today … businesses would operate and be legal and regulated just like alcohol.”

Mace, who is serving her first term, called the bill a “compromise” following more burdensome legislation proposed by Democrats.

“This legislation, I believe, has something good for everyone, whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican,” Mace told reporters.

Cannabis would no longer be considered a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act. Accordingly, possession of the substance would not be a criminal offense.

“The measure also would allow for expungement of federal convictions in nonviolent cases and provide a framework for federal regulation and enforcement in states that allow the sale of marijuana,” per NBC News.

The bill includes a 3% excise tax on cannabis, which is substantially below the 25% tax proposal from the Senate. Mace said this was intended to prevent the formation of “illicit markets.”

The Senate has also proposed that the Food and Drug Administration regulate marijuana. The Treasury’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau would be tasked with regulating marijuana under the States Reform Act.

While five other Republicans are co-sponsoring the bill, Mace’s bill was denounced by Drew McKissick, the chair of the South Carolina GOP.

About 68% of Americans support legalizing marijuana, according to a recent Gallup Poll. Democrats are more open to the change, with 83% in favor compared to 50% of Republicans.

Marijuana has already been legalized in 18 states and has been approved for medical use in 37 states. It is, however, illegal under federal law.

Interesting... Introduced by Republicans. And without all the favoritism that makes it difficult for the little guy to compete with big business that was wrapped up in Democrat proposals.

Also nice to see "protect access to hiring and benefits for veterans who have used cannabis and expunge the records of people convicted on nonviolent, cannabis-only related offenses".

Fentanyl-Laced Weed Confi... (msn.com)

Fentanyl-Laced Weed Confirmed In Connecticut By Health Officials

DeMicia Inman - Yesterday 10:30 AM

Fentanyl-laced marijuana has been confirmed in Connecticut after a string of overdoses were reported throughout the past few months. According to a press release from the Connecticut State Department of Public Health, since July, the Office of Emergency Medical Services has reviewed reports of patients with opioid overdose symptoms and required naloxone for revival, where people claimed to have only smoked weed.

The report found 11 cases in July, nine in both August and September, and 10 from Oct. 1st through the 26th across the state. Officials were able to locate and test a sample of the marijuana used by those experiencing opioid overdose symptoms. The Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Division of Scientific Services Forensic Lab found the product obtained by the Plymouth Police Department tested positive for marijuana, fentanyl, and Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol.

“This is the first lab-confirmed case of marijuana with fentanyl in Connecticut and possibly the first confirmed case in the United States,” said DPH Commissioner Manisha Juthani, MD.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, “fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that is similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent.” Overdoses related to fentanyl use have grown as the coronavirus pandemic continues. The New York Times reported during the 12-month period that ended in April, more than 100,000 Americans died of overdoses, up almost 30 percent from the 78,000 deaths in the prior year and more than doubled since 2015. With 100,000 fatalities, the number is the highest ever for the time frame, totaling more than the toll of car crashes and gun fatalities combined.

“If we had talked a year ago, I would have told you deaths are skyrocketing. But I would not have guessed it would get to this,” said Dr. Andrew Kolodny, medical director of the Opioid Policy Research Collaborative at Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management.

On Nov. 17., Dr. Rahul Gupta, Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy led a press call with Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra and other Biden-Harris Administration to address the deadly epidemic.

“To change this unprecedented level of drug overdose death, we must continue to pursue the innovative science that addresses the rapidly changing drug supply, addiction crisis, and related harms,” said Dr. Nora Volkow, Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, part of the National Institutes of Health.

In October, New Jersey artist Fetty Wap was arrested on federal charges including allegations he and five others were responsible for the trafficking of 100 kilograms of heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, and crack. He was released on Nov. 6 on a $500,000 bond.
