Honey Boo Boo Star Alana Thompson Thinks the Body Positivity Movement Is Making Fatphobia 'Worse'

Julie Mazziotta - 6h ago

how do you define 'body shaming' and 'body positive'?

Honey Boo Boo Star Alana ... (msn.com)

"I feel like my generation is probably making it worse," she said. "Everybody's all about body positivity, body positivity, until they see a body they don't like."

I don't get how anyone can feel it is healthy, I mean our society is to the point that you cannot say anything for the other persons benefit without being accused of being mean

.

That is a good article

.

"embracing the body you were born with" is much different from being unhealthy.

I actually used to think people were 'big boned'

there is a certain amount of fat that is healthy, but beyond that percentage it's dirt inside you and a breeding ground for diseases and sickness

"Loving yourself is important. I could never expect someone to look in the mirror and sneer in disgust at their appearance. That doesn’t necessarily mean that people should accept something that they can change, though.

I completely understand self-acceptance when it comes to inalterable characteristics. If there’s nothing you can do about it, don’t sweat it. But, if you can do something, go for it! Why would you settle when you have the power to better yourself?"

If Lizzo spent as much time working out and eating better instead of twerking, crying like a bitch, and being a minstrel show, maybe she'd get Captain America. Adele got herself together, why can't Lizzo? Nothing but laziness and lack of discipline. And she can miss me with the racism bullshit.

If Lizzo's so "body-positive", why doesn't she date a dude her size?

I agree. I was talking with a coworker, and having lived in the 70s and 80s you did not see girls or women like this. Eeeeevery once in a while you would see a heavier person. and most of it came from a natural progression of life and age. But usually not like what we are seeing today.

In the 70s and 80s people were so much more active, played outside, recreational sports, roller skating, game ie chase, freeze tag, dodge ball, jumping rope, etc and people DANCED, people went out to dance clubs and bars people had house parties where they DANCED, people walked a lot, rode bikes, you went out to arcades to play video games, not sit at home all day etc

Having lived in the 70s and 80s, most girls/women were slim, fit, average etc, you didn't have the overweight people like you do today. There might be one girl/guy here and there but even they were not 'obesed'

It's funny how many plus sized celebrities who got famous primarily because of their weight or inspite of it, drop a lot of weight when they reach international status. Lizzo will be next. Hopefully she won't go through a flaming crash breakdown first. Eventually we'll raach the mindset of importance health over appearance cause all these injection and slicing, dicing and blowing body parts up like balloons is just as ridiculous.

Great topic

My good friend Gained just under 60lb in a year in lockdown. This is not healthy.

Most of us gained, I gained 7lb, but I am losing it.

I said listen you got to lose a little weight, don't want to be ill like your mum (diabetes 2)

She told me big is beautiful and told me shes body positive

No comeback for that at all. She said she feels good, pulled out a load of larger famous folk and showed me some lingerie she bought.

This movement brainwashes people and if you say a word against it you look like you're trying to make your friend upset or body shame them.

Its dangerous if it makes someone feel like they can gain as much as they want and be ok

Yeah gain 60lbs in a year or 2 is a critical health risk, that's too much sudden stress on the body.

GenX grew up in the new exercise explosion. Jogging was big, aerobics was the new big thing, trying to be model thin was popular then you started hearing stories about the epidemic of girls going through anorexia and bulimia tearing up their esophagus and dropping down to 70 80lbs and dying. In comes body positivity and self acceptance, now the pendulum has swung to acceptance of another form of excessive unhealthy behavior to prevent another unhealthy behavior. I personally blame the rise of fast food culture, excessive amounts of calories "shoved" into a small amount of food. Looking at folks in the 70s who weren't concerned about cholesterol intake or high fat content, ate home cooked food in all its unhealthy forms, full of butter and gravys, and obesity was rare especially in the young.

A lot of women are starting to notice that black women tend to be used or highlighted as front line warriors for every social injustice movement under the sun, told how strong and independent they are and it was seen as such a positive thing. I saw a poster for feminism that shocked me, it's since been removed, Now they're startng to take notice when they need they get crickets. That they are also at the frontline for jokes, sneers and shaming. I'm seeing a growing movement of women sitting down remaining silent and letting folks fight their own battles. I'm kinda for it.

That woman in the motorized shopping cart (thinking she's hot shit) is beyond pathetic. Unfortunately, I see women and men like her in my neighborhood all the time. Obesity is a big problem with black Americans, and I'm just tired of all the excuses. Bottom line - they're fucking lazy, have no discipline, and they want to gorge on "fun" food and soda.

I'm 60, been working out since my mid-20s. I went through a stretch where I stopped, ate too much junk and got fat. But after some tough love from family and friends, I got myself together. I changed my eating habits (once a week for pizza & soda), rejoined the gym in the mid-90s, and the rest is history. I can hit the weights nearly as much as our former Orger RodeoSchro. Not bad for an old man.

I refuse to wind up like some of my younger, overweight relatives and friends....they're going to pay the price for not taking better care of themselves.

Yeah she did a 'fake it until you make it'. I love Nell Carter and Gimma A Break. You should love yourself no matter what, but that love should be to take care of yourself. The actress did work at loosing weight, she admitted it wasn't healthy. But she also had some other issues that created the weight problem.

I finished bing watching The Parkers 2 week ago

I don't think a show can push it like that in so many ways to or is there a show equivalent?

There was one episode where Nick Cannon appeared as a comedian and made 'fat' jokes, then Nikki and other overweight women came to another show and tried to reverse it on him. Then Nikki Parker took the stage and started making her own fat girl/skinny girl jokes
