Biles Exits Second Competition

Simone Biles, US Olympian in gymnastics, has withdrawn from the all-around final, citing her mental health.

Last night, the commentators read her lips, "I don't trust myself."

Biles told Today show's Hota Kotb, "Emotionally it varies on the time and moment. Coming to the Olympics and being head star isn’t an easy feat."

But you know what? She has a literal move named after her, she's won tons of medals. She's an elite athlete. She's alread won, 100x over. Good on her.

I'll wait and see what happens when she comes home.

I. Have. No. Idea. But I'm sure there were multiple millions if not billions depending on her pushing the team to win the gold. As a commodity. I can't imagine it rolling that well. She was hyped so much. Then again the entire world will be watching and there are definitely billions tied up into preception also. With US and Human Rights issues being on the table. This is a new one. A few years ago I doubt the reaction would've been pretty. But this is post Phelps and Osaka, so it depends how much respect, in overall society, is truly put on mental health.

Simone is a phenomenal athelete and has been through a lot over the years. I support her decision 100%. She needs to think about her mental and physical health and not just the fame and fortune. Of course, there are already scumbags like a couple of Republican politicians that are calling her a quitter and that other piece of shit Piers Morgan, but I hope she blocks all of that out and just remembers what a great athelete she is.

If your mind and heart is not in it then the best decision is to withdraw

Yeah. They're going at her more than celebrating Suni (YAY) bringing home the gold. I'm really hoping this calms down rather than ramp up when she gets back on American soil. Not turn into, "just wait til you get home" kind of situation. But I'm not banking on it.

Typical Republican rhetoric. But then again, I don't see anything named after them, no awards on their shelves, no breaking of world records, no one competing to win their own place in history.

They're all keyboard cowards.

And if this was a white girl, they'd be quiet as fuck about it.

She's been through a lot. I feel for her.

She didn't go back and stay in her room, she's been out there rooting for the other ladies!

Good on her!

SNIP Don't create offensive, vulgar, obscene, threatening, abusive or excessively profane posts. Do not instigate, engage in, or encourage 'flame wars'. If you insult someone "jokingly", be prepared to have it not interpreted that way by the Moderators. A good general rule: "criticize ideas, not people."

Strive

The new hero in modern times.
.
Not somebody who competes and wins. Not somebody who comes up short but gave it their all.
.

Somebody that claims temporary victim status so they get all the accolades without most of that pesky competing. Very stunning and brave.

.

I hope Netflix gives her a 100 billion dollar production deal. She deserves it.

I hope what she is going through gets better. Why is this even an issue? So what? The only ones she owes anything to are her team members and her sponsors.

And she did get a metal... which is more that most of her detractors.

She has 7 medals now. The most of any US Olympic gymnast, tying with another girl from the 90s (whose name I forget off hand). She was even out there cheering for the China team. She said this bronze means more to her than any other medal because it represents her perserverance.

Good on her, and fuck any asshole who calls her a loser. Let's see your medals! We'll wait...
