First their edited video was debunked by playing the full video of what he actually said. Then their argument that his words were incitement was squashed with video of many of them saying similar, and sometimes worse, rhetoric. And finally they backed off on calling witnesses because they were afraid of Pelosi being called in. Another waste of time.

Not only grossly edited out of context video and audio...

I watched the trial on Thursday and nearly every thing that was said would have been unhallowed in any court case. Over and over they violated rules of evidence and procedure and most of all Due Process. They presented as Evidence published reports where not only was the person who wrote the story not there to be questioned but they all relied on hearsay, double hearsay, or on unnamed sources or people that had been TOLD what happened?

I saw 3 people arguing from the conclusion... OBJECTION!

Another achievement for the coup leader: the vote against him is the most bipartisan vote in history. Plus when you look at the subsequent comments by McConnell, this would have been higher but for GOP/trumpcult partisanship enforced by the equivalent of jury tampering by threats.

.

Funny how "some" (I mean you, Only) defend the actions of the GOP for the coup leader because this is a political court, so does not run as a criminal or civil court and attack others because it is run as a political court, not a criminal or civil court.

I'm wonderig: why did they even try? What's the point of impeaching a president who's already gone when you know that you're not going to get a majority anyway? Biden is president, but it's still all about Trump. Move on.

Why is it not a surprise that the 7 who voted to convict trump is catching hell from spineless repubs who voted to acquit trump? popcorn

Most knew trump wasn’t going to get a conviction vote, by most of the repubs. They’re afraid trump will hurt their reputation, once they run again, and fear threats from many of Trump’s crazy supporters. They didn’t have the interest of Americans first, they were concerned about keeping their jobs. No matter if the House brought in witnesses at that trial, it would not have changed the majority of the coward repubs’ vote. They’re priority and allegiance is to Trump and not for the interests of Americans.

But then again, Trump still has other legal issues, so we’ll just have to wait and see how that goes.

Party leaders rip Republicans who voted to convict Trump

“Several GOP senators came under withering criticism back home for failing to toe the party line.

The seven Republican senators who voted to convict former President Donald Trump of inciting the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection are already feeling the heat back home.

Several state Republican parties moved quickly to discipline or criticize home-state senators for breaking with the 43 other Senate Republicans who voted to acquit Trump in his second impeachment trial.“

Even with all 50 Democrats voting "guilty", they still need at least 16 Republicans to vote the same to get the 2/3 requirement for eviction. They only had 7 Republicans voting "guilty"! Trump wins AND is acquitted. Plus, he can run for political office again if or when he decides to do so.

What about if he’s found guilty by SDNY? His legal troubles are not over. Besides if it was a Democrat, you can bet the repubs would have wanted a trial and convict him.

I’m glad they showed the footage of that insurrection during the trial. Americans got more of an in-depth view of how really dangerous it was for the elected officials, in the Capitol. including hearing the actual death threats from the mouths of Trumpers, against Pelosi and Pence.

I mean just seeing all those Trumpers waving confederate flags, and the footage with a trumper carrying it inside the Capitol, how is that not a racist/divisive mindset? Even bringing an actual gallow, to the Capitol as a threat to hang a Vice President? Many Trumpers armed with all kinds of weapons, and how they were beating an officer to death, in front of Americans’ eyes. Horrific.

That footage exposed the actual racist extremism, as well, that has been long ripe/alive in this country. Trump’s always projected racist/divisive rhetoric during his entire presidency. His lies to his supporters about a stolen election, led to stirring up his supporters’ angst about that, at that 1/6/21 rally, and that helped to incite that riot, or we wouldn’t have heard many of his supporters who attacked the Capitol, stating they did it to fight for trump or they were t to the a special because trump told them to.

Many Trump supporters attacked Capitol police, and one was murdered by Trump supporters. Many threatened to harm/kill elected officials. That insurrection exposed Trump’s bs and lies, about his party and supporters’ beliefs of ‘law and order.’

.

It was done quickly, cleanly and with the most bipartisan impeachment vote against a President ever.

.

It broke the cycle of the far right seeking to normalise the coup attempt.

.

It adds to all the court cases where the very people the coup leader knowingly incited to violence openly and repeatedly state the fact that they were directly responding to his clear call to action against the US democracy on 6/1.

.

It adds to the pressures in the GOP between the cultists and the moderates.

.

The 14% of GOP Senators who voted for fact over partisanship represent the growth in the counter cult movement - As time goes by the coup leader will be struggling against time and the party moving on from the past and needing to distance itself from all his actions and failures to act.

.

The first immediate success has been the coup leader's daughter pulling back from seeking office against Rubio.

.

It only becomes a huge waste of time if the GOP finds a way to allow the coup leader another shot because of his grifting and to keep his extremist base. (or prevent it from being used against the GOP).

Many of the coup leader's brown shirts have been.

.

He threw them under a bus to protect himself several hours after it was clear his high crime had failed.

History will judge Trump harshly. He is arguably the worst president in the USA's history. His only competition for worst US president ever is James Buchanan.
