No thoughts on China surpassing the US iwithin the next several years? Different analysis give different dates. Personally I think the States are going to pull a fast one but who knows. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

China already had the trade war won right from the jump.
Reply w/quote - E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
How so? Everything I've read indicates trump won the trade war handily
Reply w/quote - E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
. These would be the same sources that told you trump won the election.

When you come in and find your thread has been turned into another "playing the dozens" thread. ![]() China will overtake the United States to become the world's biggest economy in 2028, five years earlier than previously estimated due to the contrasting recoveries of the two countries from the Covid-19 pandemic, a think tank said. Japan would remain the world's third-biggest economy, in dollar terms, until the early 2030s when it would be overtaken by India, pushing Germany down from fourth to fifth. The United Kingdom, currently the fifth-biggest economy by the CEBR's measure, would slip to sixth place from 2024. Which takes me back to those who are still using the 1700s as the measuring stick for the advancement of a country. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

. What does it matter? The wealth and welfare of each country's people and how each country enables and cares for all is all that is ultimately important, not the position on a league table. . These are guesses based on estimates of predicted future growth. China and India have many more times the number of people than all the other countries you have listed. It is sign that the world is improving if people from round the world have a more even chance of wealth but these measures are not a good indicator of this. . Perhaps you would get a better response if the thread title was not framed in an accusatory tone: The playing the dozens started before anyone posted.

As one of the most populist nations, good for China. Hope they are doing well and their citizens prosperous.

. Within the last 3 decades of my life, I have seen products that were either "Made In China" or "Imported From China", hence why I said China already had the trade war won right from the jump.

. Yes, China has definitely gotten better at capitalism than the USA in recent years. But do not be fool by the smokescreen! China is still a communist country that still thinks people with freedom & liberties are a bad thing.

. You better hope that China does not get into the maple syrup business. It will be terrible for the Canadian economy if Chinese maple syrup outsell Canadian maple syrup.
Reply w/quote - E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Yay, we can never have too much maple syrup. Why are childish people not happy if someone else is doing fine. Everything doesn't have to be an either/or proposition. Chinese people can be happy, Americans in Americans can be happy. No one is perfect, just wish people well instead on always being assholes about it.

Will companies pull the plug and move their operations to China in larger droves? That impacts the employment of millions. The weakened dollar will impact what it buys. Do prices have steeper spikes? I mean unless one lives isolated in the mountains somewhere living solely off the land then one stands to be impacted one way or another. Change is hard. I'm assuming there will be some. The worry should never be about anyone doing good. Just from a basic moral point of view, we should hope the best for everyone. The worry should alwasy be when a people are doing bad. Not just for their well being, but becasue that is the when everything goes to shit and countries go to war. Misery loves company. Don't be a miserable fuck and wish hardship on anyone. If China is peaceful, as it has been for a long time and been producing our stuff becasue our bussiness leaders went their to exploit the Chinese, then the only ones to blame are our own bussiness leaders and no one else. If anyone is upset for some reason that the chinese also benefitted from the relationship. then there is something horribly batshit wrong with them. Politicians and right wing partisans anyone? How does showing interest translate to wanting others to do badly?? That's just silly and being overly simplistic. Given history, to borrow a sledding term, lead dog sets the course. That's the way it's been for centuries if one isn't aware. Lack of curiosity is weird to me. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

. The change has already occurred. So much of US manufacturing has moved out the US to China. GM, once the largest car manufacturer, sold out of Europe, shutdown all right hand drive manufacturing in Thailand, Australia and for Africa as well as breaking all ties with Japanese car companies to focus on China and the USA. . The businesses and economies of the world flex all the time far faster than any national response. Any national response that is merely about position in the league table will fail. It must look at how the economy is performing for all of the country's people and environment. . The interesting change will be the response to Covid19. So many businesses have been greatly affected by their supply chain being too reliant on China. This could result in them seeking more diversification of sources to the detriment of China.

Whether it's covid or political or financial, there are many reason companies want/need diversification. Trump's China trade war certainly made the biggest players think twice about having all their eggs in one basket. Automation is expensive and very difficult, but for some industries that may aslo play a role in moving production closer to home too.

I'll say THIS much: Right after China becomes the new #1 superpower on Earth, plenty of conspiracy researchers & theoists will owe European Jewish folks an apology for falsely thinking that they are trying to rule the world. . So far, it looks like Chinese folks are going to try it!
