Another addition to Biden’s administration.

Biden taps Susan Rice for top White House domestic policy job

The decision comes as a surprise given the former ambassador's background in national security.

“President-elect Joe Biden has tapped Obama’s former national security adviser Susan Rice to run the White House Domestic Policy Council, according to people familiar with the decision.

Rice, who also served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, was vetted to serve as Biden’s vice president and was a contender to be secretary of State, a position that went to Antony Blinken.”

Biden to tap Denis McDonough to lead VA, turning to another longtime Obama adviser

By Jeff Zeleny, Senior Washington Correspondent
Updated 10:14 AM EST, Thu December 10, 2020

“President-elect Joe Biden is poised to tap Denis McDonough to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs, a person familiar with the decision says, adding the longtime chief of staff to former President Barack Obama to his new Cabinet.

It's the latest example of how Biden is turning to a trusted set of advisers to surround him in his new administration. As VA secretary, McDonough would be inheriting one of the most challenging agencies in the government, so Biden was looking "for a seasoned hand, who knows the government well," a person familiar with the decision says.”

Biden picks Pete Buttigieg for transportation secretary.

By Coral Davenport and Michael D. Shear

“President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. will nominate Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Ind., to lead the Department of Transportation, adding a young-generation voice to his team, the transition team announced Tuesday.

Mr. Buttigieg, 38, fought a fierce battle for the Democratic presidential nomination but bowed out and endorsed Mr. Biden. The two men bonded during the general election campaign and Mr. Biden made it clear that he wanted to find a place for Mr. Buttigieg in his administration.

If he is confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Buttigieg will be the first openly gay person to serve as a cabinet secretary, shattering a barrier and contributing to Mr. Biden’s promise to make his administration “look like America.” Under President Trump, Richard Grenell, who is also openly gay, served as acting director of National Intelligence, a cabinet-level post. But he did not face Senate confirmation as the acting leader.

“Mayor Pete Buttigieg was open and honest about his identity throughout his time on the national scene, giving a voice to our community, and a new vision of who and how our leaders can love,” said Alphonso David, the president of Human Rights Campaign, an L.G.B.T.Q. advocacy group.“

Biden poised to nominate former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm to lead Department of Energy

By Jeff Zeleny, Dan Merica and Kate Sullivan, CNN
Updated 6:33 PM EST, Tue December 15, 2020

(CNN) “President-elect Joe Biden is poised to tap former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm to lead the Department of Energy, two people familiar with the matter say, inviting a longtime adviser who played a critical role in his debate preparations over the years to join his Cabinet.

Granholm has long taken a deep interest in energy issues and was considered to be a top candidate for Energy secretary if Hillary Clinton had won four years ago. Now, she will have her chance, if confirmed by the Senate.”

Biden to tap Deb Haaland as first Native American interior secretary

By Jeff Zeleny, Dan Merica, Gregory Krieg, MJ Lee and Kate Sullivan, CNN
Updated 3:51 PM EST, Thu December 17, 2020

“President-elect Joe Biden has selected New Mexico Rep. Deb Haaland to serve as interior secretary, three people familiar with the matter tell CNN. If confirmed by the Senate, Haaland would be the first Native American Cabinet secretary.

Haaland was picked, in part, because she is someone who has "spent her career fighting for all Americans, including tribal nations, rural communities, and communities of color," according to a person familiar with the decision. The department conserves and manages the nation's natural resources and cultural heritage, as well as oversees the federal government's relationships with Native American tribes.

A transition source familiar with the deliberations on the interior secretary pick pointed to Haaland's current position as vice chair of the House Committee on Natural Resources as showing her knowledge of and commitment to environmental protections and clean energy. The source also tells CNN they expect that Haaland will bring perspective on other issues like land and water conservation, renewable energy, public lands and federal parks.”

Regan, who runs the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, is set to be introduced on Saturday with other members of Biden's climate team.

If confirmed by the US Senate, Regan would be the second African American to lead the EPA. Lisa Jackson was the first to head the agency, during the Obama administration.”

I agree. She pretty much stayed out of the limelight, but at the same time, the only thing she’ll be remembered for most, is that damn jacket she wore. She never seemed to project any concern for the American people, and stayed in the background of her husband’s shadow. From the day her husband was inaugurated, I remember the scowl that was on her face in that photo op. Lol.

These will be the key members of Biden's White House digital operation
From CNN's Dan Merica

“President-elect Joe Biden named a slate of digital operatives to his incoming White House staff on Monday, preparing for an administration that, at least at the outset, will conduct most of its public-facing business digitally amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The newly minted staffers named to the White House Office of Digital Strategy include a number of longtime Democratic operatives, many of whom worked for Biden's presidential campaign.

The group will be asked to not only recreate the digital operation that helped defeat President Trump, but to build out an operation that follows a president who wielded more social media power than any of his predecessors.
Here's a look at the team announced so far:

Rob Flaherty, who worked as the digital director of the Biden campaign, will assume the role of director of digital strategy in the White House.

Jamie Lopez will work as director of platforms.

Brendan Cohen, who previously served as the deputy director of editorial on the Biden campaign, will serve as the platform manager of the digital operation.

They will be joined by Jonathan Hebert as video director and Carahna Magwood as creative director, both of whom held similar roles on the Biden campaign.”

Awesome news. It's not out of the realm of possibility that a Supreme Court nomination could happen during Biden's term and Garland could still be nominated for that. I don't know that for a fact but who knows.
