white dude asking black people an honest question

As I went out to eat tonight with my family for dinner. We're sitting in a pizzaria and a black family came in. The only non white people in the place. It dawned on me that maybe this simple act of going out to eat for me which is no big deal, but do you worry when you go to the movies or in a resturaunt and your the only non white people in the place. Have you ever got somewhere and said.... I don't like the looks of this. Let get out of here.

I’ll be honest, I’m often - if not uncomfortable- certainly on guard, if I’m in an environment where I am the only minority. I’ve been profiled several times in stores (that I know of), and have even been accused of committing a crime by a store owner. As I mentioned in another thread, I grew up in an area where there were several neighborhoods that a Black or Latino person could be accosted, threatened, even beaten or killed, simply for walking in the “wrong “ location.
So these events have made me very on guard in certain environments

As jj said, I'm on guard, but I'm never worried. Racist bullies are cowards who only fuck with those they perceive as weak or soft. If some racist POS tries anything, it won't end well for him.

No. I have been to many, many places were I was the only one...

The only time that I ever fet like and even asked if I should stay was at a small black barber shop.

I asked "can you cut my hair? I have weird wirely hair, a bald patch, and 3 cowlicks?"

The man said he could so I sat down. It was bad... he finaly stopped and called out someone's name... they came over...he said something like "What did you do?"

I put on my glasses... oh it was bad. I laughed.

He said "I am sorry, there's no charge..." the other people there laudhed.

I give him a $10 and said "well that makes this a good tip." And i went to anoter place...

I’ll say it straight up- if a venue or place had up a Confederate flag, there is no way in hell I would enter that spot

It's always better to know who you're dealing with.

Very true. I see a Confederate flag, it might as well be a Swastika.
And I’m saying “Bye !”
