The drugs, hydroxychloroquine and a related drug, chloroquine, were heavily promoted by President Trump after a handful of small, poorly controlled studies showed that they could work in treating the disease.

Mr. Trump even took hydroxychloroquine after he was exposed to two people who had tested positive for the coronavirus.

I’m glad the FDA has finally put that statement out, but you couldn’t tell that to some diehard trump puppets who believed trump about that drug.

Well the COvid-19 Task Force is all but been silenced by the trump administration (you only see Fauci doing news shows now) in their twisted efforts to make it all seem as though the virus is gone and we've contained it - meanwhile, the number of infected continue to rise and we are in the first wave still!

yup. like i said in the old thread, its extremely unlikely we get out of this without upwards of 200,000 dead americans. the current administration chose to stick its head in the sand and pretend it wasnt happening and continues to do so. a lot of people have died and will die because of it.

thanks trump!

It's getting scary - the infection numbers are going up and states have reopened despite that. This will certainly be taxing for health care facilities ad workers and if people get ill (non-covid related) and need to be in ICU and it's full of covid-19 patients... then what? We are back to square 1!

Thanks, trump

Yes, it is scary and in some States the it is increasing at increasing rates. But overall the daily increase has plateaued at around the mid to low 20,000 new cases per day on average. This plateau is much closer to your average peaks (low 30,000s) than in many other countries. The active cases were falling at the beginning of June but are now rising again. On the bright side: the daily deaths, as bad as they are, are falling quicker than the daily new cases.

However, please sign this agreement not to sue me if you end up getting covid19 at my rally.

^^^this has been his strategy all along - if the numbers aren't there then the optics show that the virus is not there, and it is even suspected that now Florida is playing with its death and infected counts. It's spiking there like crazy right now.

PEOPLE ARE STILL DYING AND GETTING INFECTED!!!!!

Didn't see this thread before I started a generic Covid -19 thread earlier. One without Trump in the title. It's a worldwide pandemic that's about more than him. I hope we can have both.

edit - This morning I went to the old thread to post, saw it was locked and just started one - my apologies if anyone is offended, it was an honest mistake. I do hope we don't link Trump to this pandemic irrevocably, any US President would have had some deaths, horrible as he is. Next year will it be Thanks, Biden? Just a thought.

CDC said that so far the rallies and protests are not affecting the spike in Covid-19 numbers because the virus is more difficult to transmit outdoors. This is a relief. However, reopening too quickly and not taking precautions seems to be affecting the spike in numbers more directly. disbelief

I don't know. Perhaps another president would have acted quicker rather than dismiss it as a hoax? There's a reason why a huge number of countries are reporting less and less new cases and new deaths and yet America is still really high on both counts. Trump has completely mishandled the situation and even though Covid 19 is a worldwide pandemic, he will always be linked with it when discussing the outbreak in America. That's unavoidable now. It's just one in a long line of failures for Trump. Imagine four more years of that kind of "leadership".

nod hence the "thanks, trump" accents on many posts.

Also, I think Biden would have had no problem evoking the DPA (defense production act) to help mitigate the shortage of PPE and hospital equipment.

Coronavirus Live Updates: Florida, Texas and Arizona Set Daily Records for Virus Cases

The virus continued its steady spread across the Sun Belt on Tuesday, with state officials in Arizona, Florida and Texas all reporting their largest one-day increases in new cases yet.

Florida reported 2,783 new cases, Texas 2,622, and Arizona 2,392.

The new daily highs came as all three states have increased testing and moved swiftly to ease social distancing restrictions and allow more businesses to reopen. They were among 20 states that have seen the number of newly reported cases grow over the last two weeks, according to a New York Times database.

Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, a Republican, attributed the uptick to more widespread testing, noting at a news conference Tuesday that the state was not only testing far more people than it did earlier in the spring, but was also going into high-risk environments, testing farm workers and migrant workers, and finding new cases.

But epidemiologists have said that the numbers recorded in the state in recent days suggest increased transmissions, and the governor acknowledged that community transmission remained a factor.

More Optimistic:

Scientists at the University of Oxford say they have identified a drug that can reduce coronavirus-related deaths. The virus flares in Beijing. Officials in Tulsa, Okla., worry that President Trump’s planned rally could cause a spike.

Yes that is a relief.

I’ve seen many people without masks outdoors. I wear one outside and if I go in the store. I social distance and wear gloves, when entering a store.

OMG, Florida is insane - you'd think there never was a pandemic when you see the crowded bars and restaurants. No masks no social distancing. They are spiking there, pretty badly right now.

Their governor is an asshat as well. I get this feeling that they are intentionally allowing this to happen so that they create herd immunization but as of yet scientists do not know if people can get reinfected after they've had the virus. Not to mention the lingering side effects of the virus happening to those who have recovered. neutral

its been a little over 2 months since i started the orginal thread.

119,000 dead americans as of today

and theres absolutely no way we end this anytime soon, or anywhere near under probably 250k at this point. we're not even out of the first wave and the president is just basically pretending its fine. he solved the problem. yay him.

trump is pretending theyll have a cure any minute now, and is falsely claiming an aids vaccine the same company made. because... why wouldnt he lie about the existence of an aids vaccine? one of his campaign promises was to eliminate aids, and now he has... by talking about an aids vaccination that doesnt exist. man, he just couldnt be a more awesome pres. hes totally killing it.

he solved aids for us, just like he solved covid 19, and he accepts your apology for not thanking him for it.

thanks trump.

You know, let's say some kind of vaccine appears before the end of the year... I would not get it if you paid me. Vaccines, really effective legitimate vaccines, take time and testing and vetting.

oh, yea. thats def white house strategy: pretend they solved it, pretend its over, and insist everything can go back to normal.

and were not even through the first wave.

its one of the dumbest things ive ever seen from the WH. just absolute banjo playing from the oval office while the country burns.

so by the time biden wins and takes office, we're likely looking at major spikes and a lot of death coming. by the time we get trumps disaster sorted, it will prob be spring 21, making it a year from outbreaak to start of the end.

trump utterly fucked us. its gonna go down as a spectacularly terrible end to one of the bottom 3 presidencies in american history. all to feed his ego.

thanks trump!

oh, yea. thats def white house strategy: pretend they solved it, pretend its over, and insist everything can go back to normal.

and were not even through the first wave.

its one of the dumbest things ive ever seen from the WH. just absolute banjo playing from the oval office while the country burns.

so by the time biden wins and takes office, we're likely looking at major spikes and a lot of death coming. by the time we get trumps disaster sorted, it will prob be spring 21, making it a year from outbreaak to start of the end.

trump utterly fucked us. its gonna go down as a spectacularly terrible end to one of the bottom 3 presidencies in american history. all to feed his ego.

thanks trump!

If the covid-19 death toll gets to 200-250k - he will be the single WORST mamal to ever occupy the office. Biden's team will need to hit the ground running the moment the trumps pull away from the WH (if they aren't escorted out) He and Pence and his whole corrupt administration have fucked us without lube. pissed

i dont see any way in which we miraculously get out of this with less than 200k deaths. were already at about 120k, and 1k a day. we're at a point in which several states are hitting record peaks as or slightly after theyve reopened, so its pretty unlikely that number is gonna go down much.

remember when trump promised the number would go from 15 (not k, just 15) to zero in a few days?
