I just heard Denmark is paying up to 90% of workers salaries during lockdown. Not bad.

A perk of living in a much smaller and less populated country.

Meanwhile, the national debt will be so high after this - it was already vastly escalating thanks to the current admin.

Who keeps killing every stimulus bill, even they already have bi-partisan negotiation, and who keeps adding unnecessary pork to it, taking advantage of a crisis at the expense of all of us.

The democrats, that's who, specifically Pelosi & Schumer, as they try to turn the stimulus package into the green new deal in an effort to never let a crisis go to waste.

Shame on them and shame on those who defend this nonsense.

The issue here is trump's comments on why we need to be concerned about the impact of his response to covid19 on his election prospects. Everyone wants these shutdowns to end as soon as possible based on the threat so the response has less effect on the massive number of unemployed, shutdown businesses and lost interactions. The least of anyone's concerns should be on how it could personally affect trump.

The issue here is that Pelosi is holding up the stimulus to get her pork that has nothing to do with this crisis in there.

Despite you personal opinion on other issues, the length of time that we need to be isolation has nothing at all to with whether the stimulus package should just look after business or include the effects on displaced people. It has nothong to do with both parties parties being intransigent but you seeking to blame just the one you disagree with.

It's telling that Trump spends more time at the beginning of his press briefing blaming, defending his leadership and patting himself on the back.

Trying to decide if it's gross or pathetic. It's both and more.

It all starts with bossy wannabe-mods telling people what they can post and where they can post it, like you're trying to do now.

So, in an attempt to avoid my part of that nonsense, I'll just get back to ignoring you. And barring any instructions from an actual mod, posting what I want, where I want.

You can only improve what you focus on. whilst trump is focused on his re-election prospects, the US total confirmed infections is now the highest in the world ahead of China (albeit the Chinese figures are questionable) with more than 13,000 new cases in a day. The next highest are Spain, Germany and Italy at less than half the US daily total.

We all hope we miss the worst of the predictions. I will be the first to say Trump called it if by Easter we see that we did not need the ventilators or any of the other PE. It will be the best news ever.

But c'mon at least lead us through this with at least some class.

Because it didn't have enough pork.

If it's based on the 2018 tax return, I won't get a dime. In the last 35 years I have 2 years with no income for health reasons, 2017-2018. I'm not thinking about myself, I'll get nothing anyway.

If you can back that up with some fact, I'd like to see/know exactly what the "pork" is you are referring to.

The package will help some people, not everyone.

I already filed, so it will be based on 2019 for me.

It's been discussed all week that it will be based on the 2018 tax return.

The house' plan includes new green emissions rules for airlines, lobbying restrictions, it's not the time for these kind of things, just a clean stimulus plan.

Discussed where? I saw this morning that if you've already filed for 2019 it will be based on that.

I will wait and see the published plan. I am sure there were additions by the McConnell crew as well.

I've seen this request, but if anybody has anything to say to me that's not good enough for public, keep it to yourself. Any "bickering" orgnote sent to me will be deleted and the sender will be blocked.

Not arguing with the mod request, just saying... not interested.

None of the things you mention here are the actual, real sticking points on why the republicans failed to get agreement on their bill. The changes that resulted in the bill passing were improvements directly related to matter at hand: increased direct funding to hospitals and medical workers, longer support for laid off workers, increased oversight on loans to businesses and increased support to states and localities, espcially smaller states. These make it a better, cleaner stimulus plan.

.

As ever in US bills there are special agreements: the GOP pushed for livestock aid and the Dems agreed if special crops were added. A Dem proposal on harbor dredging aid was added with GOP support. The Dems got agreement on free video visits to prisons. Casinos lobbied for support having failed to get it following Katrina. Travel agents are included, Sunscreen (a special interest of McConnell) is included. Trump has added powers to extend the terms of 7 military leaders.

.

So back to the topic: Medical experts, including Dr Fauci have rejected trump's comments about being back by Easter and have expressed caution about trump's comment that large sections of the US could get back to normal early

During an unhinged interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Thursday night, President Donald Trump suggested that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is exaggerating the state’s need for ventilators...

Can you imagine how many more people would die if Obama hadn't expanded Medicaid? Something the Repubs are trying to do away with in the courts right now - and replace with nothing.

He’s an ass. I doubt Gov Cuomo or other Gov’s will agree with that. Trump
is pathetic.

Can’t wait to hear what Gov Cuomo will say about that at his 11:30 am conference today.

Poppy, I’m also hearing that New Orleans is now the epicenter of the Coronovirus, with increased deaths.
