Sydney knife attack

Today in Sydney there was a knife attack in the CBD.

.

It appears to follow the same characteristics as most of the US ones:

.

1 The person was known to be suffering from mental illness.

.

2 The only person killed may have been in domestic violence incident just before he took to the streets - but this has not been confirmed

.

3 He allegedly had a usb with information on previous mass murder/suiciders including the Christchurch killer. All we know is he is of Turkish ethnicity so it may be a rejection of their notoriety.

.

The difference:

.

1 He could have killed many more, but he did not have a gun - one other person was injured.

.

2 He was subdued without being killed by bystanders with a chair and milk crate - yes literally a chair and crate.

.

3 As much as our Prime Minister comes from the conservative side of politics, his comments were sensible. He said "The attacker is now in police custody following the brave actions of those who were present at the scene and were able to ... restrain him." (Not that he has not made inappropriate and unhelpful comments before).

Well done to all the brave people who put their lives at risk to capture him alive. It seems he wanted the police to kill him.

If you're going to refer to people as 'scum' or 'garbage vomit', at least have a reason to do so.

I am thankful for the brave people that disarmed him. I'm also thankful for the reasoned response of the Australian Prime Minister.

I imagine the response from our "conservatives" will consist mainly of "Whatcha gonna do now, libruls? Ban knives?!?!?"

Thankfully Australia has more sensible gun laws than America, otherwise this could have been a lot worse.

Mt thoughts too, Ian. Our gun laws probably prevented what I imagine would have otherwise been a much worse scene.

They should ban all knives in Australia from now on. Kitchen knives too, you never know.

Seriously though, knife attacks really have been on the rise lately, in England and Wales too:

This is worrying.
