you are confused... my exercising my free speech to call his fool ass out is not the same as my supporting his free speech.

I do call him colon because he is full of "it." I did change his last name too... and I think I admitted that was a bit too much. It was very poor taste and I should and do apologize to people who have had cancer. I do wonder if you call out people when they have called people a "Cancer"

But YES I support that vomit's right to say dumb ass stuff that would if he got his way would have much less comfortable life.

Remember you and I and pretty much every single one here (actually all of us) life a life of great privilege. Living in a developed nation is a great privilege... do you deny your privilege? your double Privlage? *White and Developed world?*

First, What dumb ass stuff? That extremist groups are using it? That at the time it was created slavery was acceptable?

Second, how do you know life would be less comfortable? You literally have no way of knowing how the world would have turned out if history hadn't happened how it did.

The way some people are acting on here is as if Nike only listened to one person and then bowed down to him and his demands. This is simply not true. Maybe (maybe not) Colin raised concerns, but a whole team will have worked on what to do, whether to pull the ugly sneakers or not, and whether Colin's concerns were valid. I'm not even convinced the whole thing wasn't a planned PR stunt.

As for our 'lives of privilege', it's all subjective. I watched a programme the other night about tribes in the Amazon rainforest, and a part of me envied them, their simplicity of life, their lack of greed. If we consider the countries we would rather not live in at the moment, places like Yemen for example, can we really look at ourselves as decent human beings when we refuse to help those people in most desperate need? The people fleeing with nothing? The people desperate for a chance elsewhere? Because the people who don't want these trainers banned sure as hell don't want people from Yemen (or insert any other less privileged country) coming in to 'their' country. Can we really enjoy our life of privilege knowing that people in the world still don't have access to clean water and basic sanitation? I think we (the developed world) should be ashamed at ourselves a lot of the time, we sneer down our noses at those less fortunate, abuse those in less privileged countries to make more profit, act like hypocrites when it comes to holding nuclear arsenal, and treat immigrant children like animals. And guess what? People living peacefully in those tribes in the Amazon were being driven out, some murdered, mostly by westerners for palm oil to put in our shitty over-processed food that we stuff our faces and get fat with. Wow how proud we should be.

Be kind. If you can't be kind - say nothing.

See, that's what's wrong with you guys. You confuse supporting a person's RIGHTS with supporting their VIEWPOINTS, and you can't wrap your head around supporting someone's right to say or do something while simultaneously disagreeing with and even mocking their choice to do so.

If you believe one must support a viewpoint to support a person's right to express the viewpoint then you might not be intelligent enough to even be part of the conversation. Just sayin'...

1) he says all kinds of stupid stuff... you may agree but that is you Privilege

2) did I say I knew? I said it would be! Nike would and could not exist as it is now...and you are being silly... I said nothing about history... that is so weird that you would say such a thing...but it is your Right to do so

3) okay? Did I say it was?

4) If the existence of first world privilege is debatable then so are male and white privileges.

and if you think people living tribes in the Amazon rain forest are better off than you or I... then... wow... really? But like colon you have the right to say that... (but maybe don't)

some with very narrow minds and very poor understanding of history and the state of the world have made up that it somehow represents slavery and oppression.

and some have made up the fantasy that is about the flag code... LOL how desperate can one be to avoid agreeing that Nike is wrong here.

I see. I guess that is one very 'on trend' interpretation...

The first thing it reminded me of, is the European flag, except there is one less star on it.

12 stars seems to be symbolic for unity or perfect balance...

in the BR Flag 13 stars is for the 13 original colonies....

I second that. I don't believe it NEEDS to be said by anyone in this thread as I feel that it's a no-brainer that everyone here agrees with this 100%.

But, for the record: I absolutely condemn any and all race and gender supremacy in all of it's forms uncoditionally, have for my entire life, and will for the rest of my life.

I'll do better - I'll copy and paste dj's statement and give it my wholehearted endorsement, agreement, and highfive, because I doubt I could say it better (with a couple grammatical fixes, don't hate me):

The thing is, I cannot help but like America. The country has come a long way since 1620. Every country has its past (good and bad), but the identity of a country, its hopes and its dream... is the people's too. If we turn our back on our own history and culture, it is our own identity we are rejecting.
