The NRA is not going anywhere. The bankruptcy scare is a ploy to get money, this isn't the first time they have cried bankruptcy. And if they do, it will be a Trump style bankruptcy where they just lose their debt and continue on.

This was a bait thread from the start - not that we shouldn't be talking about our rampant gun psychosis in the United States. SMDH.

Again, no.

In instances where right wingers have been mass shooters have you put such effort into explaining that political affiliation is irrelevent?

Funny how it's a big deal in those cases and not now. Let's just sweep this one under the rug so we can stick to the narrative. Hmmmm...

Big deal? You brought it up. I wasn’t even going to post anything as not to be knee-jerky so soon after such a sad mindless tragedy. I didn’t even know anything about the kids.
And even before then. When it comes to shootings, mental health is the first thing that comes to mind. Politics second because it’s the right-wing that fights regulation. I just want a sane gun policy because these things are so dangerous.
Listen, medications are harder to get because the risk of people getting hurt.

Also, you mentioned on a different post about the percentage of semiautomatic sales and I googled it so I could be more informed but it seems no one even knows the numbers. It’s all so murky. We need transparency, we need sane regulations and like others have mentioned, we need accountability. That’s when it comes to whomever buys the gun to the manufacturer.

There are mentally ill people in every country in the world. And yet, the US is the only country that has all the shooting deaths.

The difference is easy accessibility to GUNS - on every level. Our children are bearing the brunt of this stupid fight, and the ones actually acting like adults.

We are all going to pay a high price for citizens who pretend that unlimited and overflowing weaponry is a "right".

Exactly, and those kids are the ones who will and are bringing it to the forefront and at least confronting politicians about taking the NRA money.

Everyone should be responsible for their guns that they own. Some police departments in our area even give free gun locks to secure the guns.

sad

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — It was three days before the last day of school, and the students inside Ms. Harper’s English classroom were whiling away the last period of the day watching “The Princess Bride” when one of their classmates walked in late and pulled out a gun.

“The only thing he said out loud to the students was, ‘Don’t you move,’” said Nui Giasolli, an 18-year-old senior who was in the class at the time.

In that moment, she recalled, Kendrick Castillo, a gentle teenager fascinated by cars and engineering, lunged to stop the gunman and was shot dead. Eight other students were wounded in the shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch on Tuesday afternoon, which the authorities said was carried out by two fellow students.

On Wednesday, parents and students across this stunned suburb south of Denver described Mr. Castillo’s actions as the latest act of self-sacrifice by students who now find themselves on the front lines of fighting off gunmen in America’s schools. His death came only a week after a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte was killed as he stepped in to stop another gunman on campus.

FUCK the NRA! finger

[Edited 5/8/19 16:04pm]

This was recorded by an 8th grader at Highland. I can't even imagine how scared these kids had to be. It's only audio, as he was recording on his cell phone, with his cell phone in his pocket to keep his hands free.

His mom shared it on FB.

This made me cry.

https://www.denverpost.co...gs-unsafe/

A 5th grader wrote this to his parents:

“I love you guys more than anything and I want you to know I’m in a happy place,” the note read. “I’ll see you on the other side.”

His mom said: “To read words scribbled in the dark by your child who really believes it might be their last day is unnerving on a whole new level,” said Anderson via Twitter.

Will you gun loving 2nd amendment toting people just stop for a minute? These are our kids reality today. We, parents, send our kids to school knowing we may not ever pick them up again. Every day, when I drop my son and daughter off at school, I tell them, "I love you very much. Please be safe." I didn't used to have to tell my kids to "be safe" at school. School was....school. It was a safe place for my kids, where they learned information that would help them in their chosen careers later in life, and to be productive adults. I was never scared at school, except for the year I was bullied. School was my haven from the abuses at home. More kids are experiencing anxiety and depression than ever before, more kids are hating school because it is NOT a safe space for them, a safe haven. Every day, "I love you. Please be safe." Every single day, I'm terrified I will get a call or a text from my child, telling me they are on a lockdown because there is someone in the school shooting. I can't relax until I pick them up from school and I KNOW they are safe.

“I wish people knew that every day that I send my kid to school, there’s a chance she could be murdered in her classroom,” Court said. “I wish non-parents understood how much that affects family and a community. Because sometimes it feels like there’s almost nothing scarier right now than sending your kid to school.”

I agree with this.

Actually, I'd like to know what you think the gun laws should be. Should every type of gun be allowed to be sold to anyone? Should there be an age limit, if so what? Machine guns? What about rocket launchers, hand grenades etc...?

If you're going to refer to people as 'scum', at least have a reason to do so.

I have said and I say again:

the guns that are currently legal should be kept legal. I said well before Las Vegas that I had issues with bump stocks

No guns do not need to be sold to Just anyone... again the current rules seem to suffice to a large extent. I would make a rule that any gun sold at a gun store should require a background check they can have kiosks to provide that as well as local dealers to help facilitate the transfer...fees can be worked out between the parties...

Also if you sell more that some amount (say 5) and you must have a background checks. (at some point it is a business)

But I also think a fast pass system should be in place. If they can tell my credit score in 30 seconds at wal-mart they can run a background check...as long as I have passed one at some point prior.

Ages: keep them the same: 18 long 21 hand gun... (We may need to work out the ones in the middle like an AR pistol).

Machine guns are banned and I see no reason to change that...

and then you just get silly... But rocket launcher NO... grenades yes... (smoke grenades have a use)

if you are going to parrot what you were told to say and believe then you ought to be able to state what it is you want... some can not even answer the most basic question of what makes a rifle and assault rifle (hint all answers anyone would or ever has given are either pure cosmetic (like the clinton bans) or are easy to overcome with a little practice, or are common in many many other kinds of guns. It shows ignorance as all but proves it is just emotional diarrhea.

No fast pass ever. Make it a rigid thorough process. That's what makes knee jerk impulses kept to a minimum and hopefully makes people think whether they really NEED these things or another one. As said earlier people need something that entices people think responsibly about a dangerous weapon in their household just as needing a prescription refilled for life saving medications that may pose harmful effects.
We all have rights to a lot of things, but that doesn't mean we have to be irresponsible in how we make anything that may be potentially harmful available. Especially when the harmful effects are not just to the buyer, but innocent bystanders.

Yellow: ME? Total untruth. 100%. I bet you want more regulation than I do... I bet you think an insurance plan should be required to provide it! If so that is you wanting it regulated WAY more that I do.
